How to be a Redhead (H2BAR) is a monthly subscription box that was started by two redheaded sisters, Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti. Their goal was to empower all redheads to feel confident in their looks by providing products that are “Redhead Friendly.” This means all items are free of heavy chemicals and complement red hair.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

How To Be A Redhead April 2018 Review

On the back of the card is a handy listing with information about the products and their values.
Details on how to use the John Frieda shampoo and conditioner to maintain and keep your red hair vibrant!
Also included is a free shipping code coupon for Dr. REMEDY’s enriched TOTAL Two-in-One base and top coat.
John Frieda Radiant Red Full Size Shampoo & Conditioner - Retail Value $24
I dye my hair to get this copper shade I love so much, but anyone that dyes their hair red knows that it fades. And it fades rather QUICKLY! To maintain my vibrant color in between salon visits, I typically use Overtones products. However, I am always game to learn about new color depositing products. I absolutely LOVED the Watercolors Shampoo in the March box I reviewed, so I am all ears on anything H2BAR suggests. This product definitely deposits color and I appreciate that they offer both a shampoo and a conditioner in their line. I was concerned that it would be an overtly red shade since I prefer my orangey shade. The conditioner seems to have more pigment in it than the conditioner. It seems to amplify the color and doesn’t oversaturate. I do hope they offer a larger range of color depositing reds in addition to this one!
Dr. Remedy’s Nail Polish in Hopeful Hot Pink - Retail Value $19.95 (found on sale here for $17)
I rarely keep polish stocked in my house since I get my nails professionally done, but I do keep a few shades to paint my toes with. This color looks far more vivid in the bottle but is a bit more of an orchid shade upon application. This polish is free of a lot of awful chemicals like Formaldehyde, Toluene, Camphor, and Dibutyl Phthalate. The polish is enriched with organic ingredients like Tea tree oil, Wheat Protein, and Biotin--- which happens to be a vitamin that is great for nail and hair growth!
Abba Shampoo & Conditioner Packettes - Listed Value $7 (Get 8oz Shampoo for $18.95 and 8oz Conditioner for $19.95)
I LOVE THIS SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER! My hair felt incredibly silky and smooth after using this duo. One of the ingredients is cherry bark, so I was hook line and sinker on that since I love anything cherry scented or flavored! My hair looked and smelled amazing, plus this is the gentle formula which is fantastic for kids as well as someone with color-treated hair like myself! I think I might have to buy these when I run out of the TIGI Bedhead shampoo and conditioner from my January H2BAR review.
Tan Towel Sample - Listed Value $2 (Buy 15 Piece Face Self- Tanning Towelettes for $17.59)
I prefer to keep my pale skin as pasty as I can during the summer months. I coat myself in spf50+ anytime I go outside for long lengths. This product holds no appeal to me, but I did give it to my mom that loves to tan. She had a skin cancer scare years ago, so she doesn’t tan like she used to. She used this towelette and was impressed with the golden glow it gave her skin. She also was excited to find something to use that will give her that sun-kissed glow without the high risk. This product is mom approved!
Jivi Moisturizer Full Size with Sun Protectant - Retail Value $12
Oh my goodness! I absolutely LOVE this moisturizer. Since I received it, I have been using it regularly. The green pigments in this lotion are in part due to the cucumber skins, algae, and aloe vera juice. The green pigment really helps with my pinky undertones. The lavender scent is so calming to all my senses. My skin instantly feels relieved when I apply this moisturizer. I also love that these products are cruelty-free. The ingredients are so natural that Jivi states they are safe enough to eat! I fell so hard for this product that I ordered samples from their site to try their other products. You can too here!
Reviva Labs Ultra Potency Purifying Antioxidant Serum - Retail Value $26.99 (found on sale here for $24.29)
I am thirty-six and am constantly looking for new serums and treatments to keep my skin in good condition. I use a mix of the Ordinary, Sunday Riley, and different samples I run into. I was rather impressed with this serum! Vitamin C is no joke and anything with Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid is worth using in skin routines. Using this and the Jivi moisturizer for weeks made my skin incredibly clear and supple. I definitely would use this again!
Crown Gel Liner in Blue Steel & Dark Chocolate - Retail Value $9 (found on sale here for $1)
I rarely use gel liners because in my experience they aren’t as opaque as I prefer. They tend to rub off of my lids too due to my big, deep-set eyes.
The Blue Steel liner was rather streaky when I went to apply it. I would prefer it to be bolder and have better stay on power. This rubbed off rather easily.
The Chocolate Brown is a bit more pigmented and opaque, but it is rather greasy and I was not impressed with this liner. I will stick to my liquid liners, thanks!
Verdict: H2BAR continues to offer a broad selection of products that are new to me and mainstay brands. There were some hits and misses this month, but the hits were big ones! My favorite items in this April box definitely were the Jivi Moisturizer, Reviva Labs Serum, and the John Frieda Shampoo and Conditioner sets. Those products alone for me made this box worthwhile! This is definitely a box I am eager to get each month! This box cost me $18.98 including free shipping. Keep in mind the Reviva Serum alone was $26.99 (List Value $35), so this box was an amazing value! Per the card of price listings, the value of this box is $105. That is roughly a $86 in savings for an $18.98 box chock full of products!
