3.3 overall rating

Loot Crate DX is Loot Crate's deluxe crate. They pitch it as an "elevated assortment of collectibles, apparel, home goods and more from your favorite pop culture franchises every month." They also promise no crossover items from the Core Loot Crate box.

This month's theme was "Role Models?" - but it was essentially a Deadpool box!

This box was sent for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

May 2018 Loot Crate DX Role Models? Review

It was all Deadpool, all the time, this month.

It comes with a fold-out information card that details the items in your box.

The back also shows off the Mega Crate item this month - a private Deadpool 2 screening.

Taco Pin - Value $10?

We all know Deadpool loves chimichangas and tacos - so this month is a callout do the favorite food of our red spandex hero.

Deadpool Raglan - Value $20?

This month's exclusive shirt is a raglan featuring a cartoon version of Deadpool. He's done as a chibi-style character, which really isn't my favorite iteration of characters - but that's just me of course. I do really like the very comic book "SMOLDER" text, though.

Deadpool PopTaters - Value $30 based on the regular edition

The big-ticket item of the box is a PopTater figure of Deadpool. The only exclusive part of this is the packaging, so I'm valuing it based on the regular cost on Amazon.

These are essentially Mr. Potato Head figures - but for different fandoms.

Deadpool has a few different display options - and I do really like the mask portion - but I've never been into the PopTaters line in general.

Deadpool: Drawing The Merc With A Mouth Book - Value $16-20 based on non-exclusive

This month includes an Insight Editions book featuring Deadpool. The exclusive part of this book is its size - I'm assuming it might be a tad bit smaller to fit into the box.

I like using these hardcover books as coffee table books. In general, I really like receiving these.

Kawaii Deadpool Hat - Value $15?

They've doubled down a bit on the cute Deadpool character this month - this time on a hat.

I've never been a fan of snapback hats - so I was happy to see the adjustable strap back here. Just a personal preference.

Kawaii Deadpool is pulled from the comic recap from his line. As Loot Crate says, It's a RECAP CAP!

Deadpool 2 Print - Value $10?

The final item in the box is a print. This was my personal favorite movie poster for the movie, so I was really happy to snag this for my office. It's printed on a nice glossy and thicker cardstock as well.

Verdict: I'll always be excited about a Deadpool box, but most of the items were misses for my personal Deadpool taste. I've never been into the Kawaii/Chibi versions of characters and I'm not into the PopTaters line of figures at all - so that ruled out a number of items in the box for me. What did you think of it?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No – you can find the current month available at the top of their homepage. They are currently taking June subscriptions – every month’s cutoff date to order is the 19th of the month at midnight EST.

Personally, I loved everything in this box except for the poptater. Maybe they are trying to get more women to like loot crates? I find the chibis adorable.

i’m a woman and i don’t need it to necessarily be cute to be into it, i really loved everything in the box but especially the book, i know it’s not an exclusive but i love art so big win for me personally 🙂

and as a woman, i prefer boxes that don’t cater to any particular gender. ive liked some things that “girls” don’t like and guys have liked things with more of a feminine touch to them that i really haven’t
