Love With Food Deluxe Box May 2018 "Thrive" Review

Usually, the theme from the information card doesn’t have much to do with the box. This month, there was just the word “Thrive.”

The box came with this information card. I miss the old information cards that said more about the snacks.

There were several inserts with advertisements and coupon codes, though none of them had anything to do with the contents of the box this month.

Stoneridge Orchards Montmorency Cherries (1 oz)

Stoneridge Orchards Montmorency Cherries (1 oz) – Buy 5 oz for $4.99

This is an item I’ve had before, although I can’t say for sure whether it was from Love with Food or some other subscription. Anyway, I am a fan of dried cherries although I rarely buy them due to the sugar content. But I was happy to sample these and the small package lent itself easily to portion control.

Chimes Ginger Chews (2 count) – Buy 5 oz for $2.99

Here is another item I’ve had before. I ate these very carefully as these are sticky enough to remove dental work (and I have some Invisalign “attachments” right now). The ginger definitely has a kick, with these.

Smart Sweets Gummy Bears (1.8 oz)

Smart Sweets Gummy Bears (1.8 oz) – Buy 6 bags for $19.74

These have gelatin in them so I wasn’t able to try them, so I will be passing them along to someone at work. It is sad, because they are lower in sugar than regular gummy bears, so they probably would’ve agreed with my stomach (I can’t handle tons of sugar these days), but the gelatin is a deal breaker.

Loacker Cocoa and Milk (45g) – Buy a 12-pack for $16.99

I think this item wasn’t in every box (there is sometimes variation in some of the items). This is the first of two types of wafer cookies this month and these were the softer ones (not that they were soft, but they were not as hard as the others if that makes any sense at all). These were pretty much what you would expect from wafer cookies.

Madegood Vanilla Crispy Squares (2 x 0.78 oz) – Buy 6 bars for $3.99 (found here for $3.19)

We’ve been seeing this brand fairly often in Love with Food, but the items vary at least. These were modeled on Rice Krispie treats but were vegetarian. They allegedly have some powdered vegetables in them, but you really can’t taste that. These had a nice texture and were not too sticky.

You Love Fruit Simply Mango (0.5 oz x 2)

You Love Fruit Simply Mango (0.5 oz x 2) – Buy a 30-pack for $34.99 (found here for $24.99)

Here is another repeat item. (Flavors may vary, and if you buy the larger pack at Love with Food’s website, you’ll get an assortment.) As you can see, this is a strange snack. Although it is not as sticky as you might expect, based on the appearance. I guess the odd form is a way of distracting you from the fact that one package really doesn’t contain very much food at all.

Napoli’s Oven-Baked Pizza Chips in Parmesan and Romano (4.5 oz) – Retail Value $2.99

And yet another repeat item. I am pretty sure this is left over from a previous month as the expiration date is not too far in the future. We did like these, but note that they are pretty starchy and the garlic is pretty strong with them, so I would advise not eating them in public unless you are going to brush your teeth right afterwards.

Pork Clouds in Rosemary and Sea Salt (0.7 oz)

Pork Clouds in Rosemary and Sea Salt (0.7 oz) – Buy 3, 2 oz bags for $10

Obviously not a vegetarian item, and most definitely a repeat. This is either the second or the third time I have received this item from Love with Food. I guess these are all right if you are into the low-carb thing, but I most definitely am not. I eat like 60% carbs. Anyway, these are also going to be passed along to someone at work.

Tru Women “You’re Mocha Me Cocoa” Protein Powder (0.98 oz) – Buy 10 packets for $24.99

I have seen this brand a lot in subscription boxes and I have often said, I’d like to try something other than their protein bars (not that there’s anything wrong with the protein bars, I just knew they made other things). So I got my wish. I have been mixing this into my morning smoothies for the past few days and it has been working well. The coffee part of the “mocha” isn’t overpowering (I don’t like coffee, so that’s a good thing). I could do without the silly product name, but this is actually pretty good for a pea protein (i.e., vegan) product.

Ruger Chocolate Wafer (8g)

Ruger Chocolate Wafer (8g) – Buy 96 for $35.99 (found here for $29.99)

Here is the second type of wafer cookie this month. This one was much harder than the Loacker one. I’m assuming that was by design. Anyway, there weren’t really any surprises here. These were fun to try but I don’t know why you’d opt for these instead of fresher, US-made ones you can buy at the supermarket, if you were in the market for wafer cookies.

Ruger Vanilla Wafer (8g) – Buy 96 for $35.99 (found here for $29.99)

My husband actually ate this one since these weren’t really splittable. His thoughts echoed mine – that these were fine to try but not super exciting, overall.

Sheffa Mint Chocolate Granola Bar (0.85 oz) – Retail Value $1.09

This is a new brand for me. (The reason you only see half the bar in the picture is because it broke inside the package. There was also some chocolate melting going on.) It was a pretty standard granola bar. I’m a little weirded out by the mint, to me that is more of a dessert flavor than a breakfast flavor, although the actual taste was fine. If I was in the market for a granola bar, I’d consider another flavor from this brand.

Salty Road Taffy (2 count) – Buy 50 pieces for $30 (found here for $21.99)

I like saltwater taffy. This had a fruity flavor which was weird, considering the appearance, but on the other hand, I guess it is nice not to have any artificial dyes in the food. This was super sticky.

Verdict: There were 13 types of snacks in the May 2018 Love with Food Deluxe Box, counting small things (like the taffy) as one item and larger things (like the vanilla crispy squares) as two items, which works out to about $1.53 per item (I am counting the two caramels as one item since they’re small). That is about average for Love with Food in terms of value. However, I am disappointed in the number of repeat items this month (at a minimum, the cherries, Pork Clouds, pizza chips, and You Love Fruit product) and I hope to see a few more new-to-me items in June.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the June box. Boxes ship around the 10th of each month.

I was too late!! I’m so MAD at myself lol!! I saw the gummy bears right away; I have two children 10&8 and we are trying to pick better snacks and kick candy almost completely to the curb. These gummy bears were such a hit with them and I had to stop myself from eating them all lol!! I did check the nutrition facts out before I gave them to the kids and was able to split one bag into 4 servings for them. They taste So much better than regular gummies and with so little sugar and such great ingredients!! Too bad they’re $20 for 6 bags. Can’t stop kicking myself in the butt for not getting on the rewards site earlier and snagging a couple boxes with my points 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

One bag has 100% of your daily fiber so you should be careful eating them or you could have digestive side effects.
