MunchPak Original Box April 2018 Review

Each month's MunchPak usually includes an insert that leads you to their Snack Scanner App, which will provide handy information on what snack you're enjoying, where it's from, and where you can purchase more. This months didn't for some reason!

Bourbon Kikori No Kirikabu Wheat Cookies – Retail Value $5.00 (currently out of stock)

I got the chocolate version of these in last month's MunchPak and liked those better, but these were still alright. This was the same exact deal, only with white chocolate (and a hint of coconut, if my taste buds were correct!)

It has a nice cookie crunch and a great ratio of chocolate to biscuit base. The packaging and treats themselves are also so darn cute!

Crown Saekom Dalkom Lemonade Flavor – Retail Value $2.00 (currently out of stock)

I also received the lemon version of these sour candies last month! I liked the lemon better, simply cause of its sour factor. These were pleasant, but they just tasted like a sweet grape—kind of like purple Pixy Stix. They didn't pack much of a sour punch, but they had a nice chew to them and a great color.

Elit Mozaik Chocolate with Biscuit Pieces – Retail Value $2.00

I also received this DIVINE CONFECTION last month and I am so happy I got to taste it again. I'm still not over it, even after the second go-around. The chocolate melts the moment it touches your tongue and it has the most decadent, smooth texture!

It looks like a biscotti, but it's not crunchy—it's more like a firm mousse with a few cookie pieces sprinkled in there. So, so good!

Lay's Deep Ridged Spicy Crab Chips – Retail Value $4.00 (currently out of stock)

I was legitimately anxious about trying these. From the moment you pop open the bag, it smells like a grocery-store seafood counter. And, unfortunately, it tastes like the smell of a grocery-store seafood counter. Honestly—it tastes like generic fish! The aftertaste thankfully fades quickly to the taste of Sriracha but my GOSH it was one of the most off-putting snacks I've ever had. No thank you.

Ulker Krispi Crackers Hot Flavor – Retail Value $3.00

I didn't love these either, but I was ultimately just thankful it wasn't crab-flavored. These have a strange, artificial tomato flavor—they almost taste like the tomato sauce that came on those Lunchables pizza snacks that were popular in the late '90s. The crackers have a nice crunch, but the smokey tomato flavor itself was too weird for me.

Peanut Butter Mountain Bar – Retail Value $2.00 (currently out of stock)

It's not the most pleasant looking mound, but the taste was GREAT! The creamy chocolate has a bright, rich flavor to it, and the texture is like fudge mixed with a Reese's Cup. There are small chunks of peanuts sprinkled in the middle that I loved! The peanut presence is subtle and just enough to keep the overall texture of this chocolate smooth and fudgy.

Jutrzenka Akuku Gummie Bears – Retail Value $3.00 (currently out of stock)

These had a great chewy texture that didn't stick to my teeth! It took a bit for the taste to hit me but once it did, it was just the right amount of sweet. I couldn't quite nail down the specific gummy flavor, but it mainly tasted like a blend of raspberries and blueberries. There wasn't a creamy element to them, as the white backs of the bears might suggest. It was just a nice blend of berry flavors!

Fanta Tropical Cream Soda – Retail Value $5.00 (currently out of stock)

This was green. I poured it into the glass and was shocked at how much it came out lookin' like some straight-up food coloring! I've never had a great experience with MunchPak's drink inclusions. Like all the others, this was way too sweet and artificial-tasting for my liking. It tastes almost like a melted popsicle. I could hardly place the flavor; it certainly wasn't pure lime as the color would suggest. I'd definitely pass on this in the future.

Borovec Yuppie Chocolate Wafer – Retail Value $3.00 (currently out of stock)

This was, sadly, a melty, crumbly mess. It'd be a great chocolate bar for peanut-lovers, as it has LOTS of chunky peanuts and tastes mainly like a Mr. Goodbar. I was surprised at the size of it! It's a big bar—about 7 inches long. (And its nutrition facts surprisingly deem it only one serving!) It has flaky wafers in between the peanut chunks, which definitely added an interesting texture element. All in all, it was just okay.

Kit Kat Chunky New York Cheesecake Bar – Retail Value $3.00 (currently out of stock)

This was another slightly messy chocolate bar, but it was tasty! I wasn't 100% comfortable with the lack of wafer in this Kit Kat bar, however. The crisp, crunchy wafers are usually my favorite part of Kit Kats! This is very soft and fudgy, and the milk chocolate overpowers any other flavor in its makeup. (Even the cheesecake factor!) It'd be a great chocolate bar if you're really into fudge.

Mentos Fruit Popins – Retail Value $3.00

These were a delight! The orange and lime flavors were my favorite—I didn't care too much for the lemon or blue raspberry. These chews didn't have as crunchy of an outer coating as I remember in classic Mentos, but they were still a great treat! They're essentially oversized Skittles, with perhaps a softer texture. Probably my favorite snack in the box!

Verdict: I was really impressed by last month's MunchPak, but this snack collection left me feeling a little "meh." I was surprised that I wasn't more overjoyed with some of the chocolate treats, as I'm normally a chocolate fiend! I appreciate that there were some salty snacks included, but unfortunately, their flavors were extremely off-putting. The included beverage also felt like a "last straw" kind of deal—the drinks from MunchPak just haven't been the greatest experience, and this time around was extra disappointing for some reason. I'd say the fruity gummies and Mentos were ultimately this month's saving grace!

I find the retail value kinda high on many of the items. For example that cheesecake Kitkat is only $1.00 at my local grocery store.

Ash

It’s very annoying that almost all of their snacks are constantly out of stock.
