RosePost Box is a quarterly subscription box bringing you niche and independent brands of rose-infused skincare and beauty products.

Check out the dried rosebuds in the packing material! Such a fun detail. (The packaging is pretty but it is also functional. There were a lot of liquid products this month and nothing leaked.)

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Spring 2018 RosePost Box Review

This box always feels so luxurious to open! I knew from RosePost Box spoilers most of what was going to be in here, but I still enjoyed the unboxing process quite a bit:

There was a full-color information card with more details about the products and brands included in the box. I thought it was quite informative.

There was also a postcard you could use to introduce someone else to this subscription. The back of mine had some oil on it from product leakage, although in general, everything was well-packed.

Amethyst Moisturizing Facial Serum by SM Crystal Collection

Amethyst Moisturizing Facial Serum by SM Crystal Collection – Retail Value $16.98 USD (€14.32)

This is a really interesting product. It feels kind of oily coming out, but it actually absorbs into the skin really well and leaves the skin in a good state for applying makeup or other skincare products. Please note that it contains retinol, so use a good sunscreen and maybe lay off other retinol products while using this.

This does have white rose extract, although it doesn’t have much of a scent. It has amethyst powder in it, which creates a fun look (tiny purple sparkles) although I’m going to be honest, this is kind of only for show because the components of amethyst (a silicon dioxide network solid) are not going to be bioavailable.

Rose Micellar Cleansing Water from Hristina Cosmetics

Rose Micellar Cleansing Water from Hristina Cosmetics – Retail Value $7.28 USD (€6.14)

This micellar water has a rose water base and a few oils and other components (for making the micelles). Please note this contains collagen and sodium hyaluronate so this is not vegan. (Some forms of “hyaluronate” can come from plant sources, but collagen cannot.) Anyway, I always like to keep micellar water on hand because I find that even though I *think* I get all my mascara off, I have black under my eyes after cleansing my face. A little micellar water on a cotton ball takes care of that, and this was excellent for that purpose (and non-drying).

Moroccan Magic Organic Lip Balm in Rose – Estimated Value $4.67 (buy 3 tubes here for $14)

I tried this out when I received this box and it immediately became my default kitchen lip balm (I have lip balm stashes around the house). It really performs quite nicely and isn’t all gritty like some balms that contain coconut oil. (This one also has beeswax.) The rose scent/flavor isn’t too strong (not at all like, say, the overpowering scent of Posie Balm). I am a fan.

Wild Rose Clay Mask by From Molly with Love

Wild Rose Clay Mask by From Molly with Love – Retail Value $25.99

I am a huge fan of clay masks. I don’t care for the word “detox” used in the product description (“detox” is not an actual thing from a scientific standpoint and don’t even get me started on the “Reiki-Charged Pink Himalayan Sea Salt” from the ingredients list), but I love how clay masks absorb oils from my skin and seem to draw gunk out of my pores. This one has pink kaolin and bentonite as well as rose and lavender essential oils. You mix this with water (get one of those kits with measuring spoons and a little mixing bowl for cheap from Amazon to get your proportions right) and leave on for 10-30 minutes. I found 10 minutes to be enough to see some benefits. This is a pretty generous size and it has a 2-year shelf life, which is nice if you have trouble using clay masks up. The scent and pink color make this more fun than a standard gray clay mask.

Indulge Mood Oil – Retail Value $25

Remember the oil stain from the postcard? I think this is the product that leaked, but it was a very, very small amount, as the liquid level really hadn’t gone down much at all. This has cardamom, rose geranium, black pepper, ginger, rose, and vetiver oils in a jojoba carrier. It smells really nice in the container but I guess is one of those times when a product just doesn’t work with my body chemistry. Scents are like that and can vary from person to person. (I got a weird cedar vibe when I wore it, even though there are no woods at all in the blend.) I am going to see if I can get this out of the container to use in a diffuser instead.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $79.92 for the Spring 2018 RosePost Box. As noted above, that is dependent on currency exchange rates and does not factor in shipping from overseas and/or from small producers, so the information card total of doesn’t seem out of line. At any rate, the value is certainly well above the price of the subscription considering the contents are from niche and/or foreign producers (where you often barely break even with box value). This was a wonderful unboxing experience for me, from the packaging and presentation on down to actually trying the products. Although I am a little skeptical of some of the claims (for example, about amethyst powder having any effect), I can appreciate the experience of actually using the items and the way the serum dried after feeling so oily actually was pretty cool.

For anyone on the fence about this subscription, it is truly very lovely. The products are unique, love the rose scent in each one, and they ship priority mail! This is a fantastic subscription!!

I love this box. It’s definitely one of a kind and it’s not things you can find easily around here. Plus I love those scent!

If that oil is a roll-on, take a pair of kitchen scissors and cut right below the roller ball (be careful, because the ball will come flying out), then you can use it in a diffuser.

Yes, it is a roll-on. I will try that, thanks. I really do like the scent but it was just not compatible with actually wearing it on my body. But I think it would be nice to smell during yoga or something.

I love this subscription! So pretty and feminine. I really appreciate your reviews Ragan but would love more information when you call a product out. So amethyst powder is meaningless? Oh well, I enjoyed every product in this box 😊

Well I did say that it wouldn’t be bioavailable and provided a link if you want to get into the technical stuff.

Basically, though, it has a really big crystal structure (repeating units of SiO2) and so it isn’t going to absorb into your skin. It just makes the product look purple and sparkly, close up.

I’ve been very happy with Rose Post. IMO It’s less a “bang for your buck” box and more about the uniqueness of the products and the careful presentation; both of those factor into the concept of “value” for me. I’m excited to get this one and try everything.

I agree. These are not products you’d see in any other subscription box, including a lot of less common European brands, and I am really enjoying that aspect of the subscription.
