The BAM! Horror Box March 2018 Review
This month’s box includes items from Trick ‘R Treat, Pet Sematary, Gremlins, Return of the Living Dead, and The Strangers: Prey at Night.
This sheet gives info on this month’s box and also provides info for a giveaway. This sheet doesn’t look like BAM! Horror Box’s typical one, but they advise on it the listing sheet will be back to the norm for April’s box. I also received a 1Up Mushroom, but due to the list not showing the rarer pieces… I am not sure which piece I received is the limited edition of the bunch.
Damian Maffei of The Strangers: Prey at Night Signed 8x10 Photo—Retail Value Unavailable
This month included a photo signed by Damian Maffei aka The Man in the Mask in The Strangers: Prey at Night. This movie was just released in March and also stars Christina Hendricks, so I am compelled to see the movie. Some of the boxes, per BAM! Horror Box’s sheet, at random, received a signed mask instead of the photograph.
Gremlins Fetus Replica - Retail Value Unavailable
Well, look at this little guy! Here we have a replica from the movie, Gremlins, of a Gremlin fetus. The detail of this is rather impressive. This piece is solid enough to be used as a paperweight, but I suggest displaying it on a shelf as a conversation starter.
Sam’s Lollipop Prop Replica from Trick ‘R Treat—Retail Value $19.99
This is a replica of Sam’s sucker from the cult classic, Trick ‘R Treat. Sam is the ominous character that links the dark comedy stories in this anthology together. His lollipop is one of the definitive icons of the film, so fans will eat this one up! The sucker itself seems to be made from a painted resin and the stick feels like a hollow straw. This is a neat little collectible.
Gage Creed from Pet Sematary Enamel “Fan Art” by Nick Cocozza—Retail Value Unavailable
This may be my favorite piece in March’s box! I grew up obsessed with Stephen King’s work, but especially Carrie and Pet Sematary. I actually took my copy of Pet Semetary on VHS to a Girl Scout’s sleepover as a kid and traumatized half of my troupe! This pin features the resurrected Gage Creed that comes back to “play” with his family. I am not sure what all the variants this month were without the booklet, but I am extremely pleased with this pin!
Return of the Living Dead Fan Art Print by David Hartman/Sideshow Monkey Artists
Return of the Living Dead is a cult classic 80s film. Just some trivia for you guys: Its roots are from the novel by John Russo called Return of the Living Dead. After Russo and George A. Romero decided to part ways after the 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead, they came to an agreement. In that agreement, it was determined that Russo had all rights to the title, Return of the Living Dead, and that Romero could create sequels like Dawn of the Dead as long as they didn’t use the same title that belonged to Russo. Eventually, Russo did an adaptation of his book as a script and had Dan O’Bannon set as the director. O’Bannon agreed to do it on the terms that he also got to re-write the script to make it nothing like Romero’s works. And that is how you have the slapstick horror film, Revenge of the Living Dead. This art is especially awesome because front and center you have Tarman and Trash. The toxic, neon color scheme on this piece are fantastic as well. Any fan of the movie would be pleased to have this print. As always, this BAM! Horror print comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Verdict: This month’s BAM! Horror Box made up for the dismal selections from the February box, but this box still didn’t arrive until the end of April. I have gone on a few forums and have seen the latency and quality of the boxes be up for much discussion, but I am glad to see an improvement with this month’s pieces. My favorite items were by far the Pet Semetary enamel pin and the Revenge of the Living Dead print. The franchises selected this month were the best in months, so I will give props to BAM! for that. I am curious to see if it onward and upward in the April box as well!
