Tribe Beauty Box April 2018 Review
This month’s box includes products from different categories that are great additions to anyone’s makeup kit. Let’s see what I got!
There are three cards included. The first is a card with the theme “Just Bloom, Baby” and a description and value of each product. The small cards are 20% off coupons for Ruby May Cosmetics and Maskeraide, two brands that are included this month.
Face: Marc Jacobs Coconut Setting Mist, 30ml/1oz - Estimated Value $10.45 (buy a 3.8oz bottle for $39)
This is the first setting spray that I’ve used that feels hydrating and not crunchy on my face. I’ll admit, I actually don’t use it as a setting spray, but prefer it as a refresher throughout the day. It helps soothe mid-day tight skin and allows me to blend out my foundation if it needs a retouch. The pump seems to be tripping people up though. You have to push the pump all the way down to get a fine mist, otherwise you get more of a spitting effect. The bottle comes with a little tag explaining this.
Skin: Maskeraide Hydrating Sheet Masks, 4 masks - Retail Value $21.60 USD ($5.40 USD/$7 CAD each)
Yay for sheet masks! There are four different masks to address varying skin concerns like refreshing, lifting, brightening, and restoring. All are hydrating with no artificial fragrances. I typically mask once a week and love receiving multiples. There is plenty of serum in the packets to apply to the back of your hands and neck/chest too. My skin has looked soothed and hydrated after each of these and I find that my makeup goes on like a dream after.
Tool: Ruby May Cosmetics 861 Dual Brow Brush - Retail Value $18.50 (found here for $14.50)
This double-ended brow tool is perfect for filling in and taming brows. The angled brush end tapers to a fine point so creams or powders can be applied with hair-like strokes. The spoolie is soft enough to blend product and brush brows for grooming.
Lips: Too Faced La Creme Lipstick in Razzle Dazzle Rose - Retail Value $22 (found here for $19.80)
This is my favorite product in this box! This is one variation of the lip product subscribers could receive. I love the color and the packaging is beautiful. The formula is super hydrating and glides on like silk. When it wears off, it leaves a nice even flush of color without pilling or caking. The subtle vanilla scent is lovely. I think this may be my new essential lip product.
Eyes: Ruby May Cosmetics & Color Shadow Palette, 1#P6 - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $15.99)
So much shimmer! This palette has 6 shimmer shades in the warm-tone family. The shadows are very powdery and fluff everywhere. They do blend well and can be used with a damp brush for a foil finish. I probably won’t reach for this palette much because I prefer palettes with some matte shades to create an entire look.
Here are swatches of the eyeshadows and lipstick both inside and in sunlight.
When I took this picture, I’d already been running errands for several hours. I did use the setting spray as a proper setting spray and think it held up well. I have the lipstick on and I tried to create a look with the eyeshadow palette without any extra products. I don’t think the shadows blended as well without a matte transition shade and really work best when used as accents.
Verdict: This box has a value of $90.54 which falls below their promise of a value of at least $100 but is more than doubles the $41.99 box cost. My favorite product is the Too Faced Lipstick and, as always, I love sheet masks. I like the concept of including items from different categories to help build my makeup collection. This box is a little more expensive than other makeup boxes but I think that the value of the brands, attention to detail, and great curation make it worth it if you are wanting to try a variety of products It is also a bi-monthly sub so you are only billed every other month.
