Accio! May 2018 Review
The info card for this box is always an “issue” of the Daily Prophet, and it explains all the delights about to be discovered within! This month’s theme is “Herbology”! Summer’s the perfect time for these goodies to shine because everything is always so green in summer, and now that I’ve just bought a house, I’m way more invested in making things grow.
Herbology Club Adjustable Baseball Cap - Listed Value $18.00
What a perfect item for summer gardening! I love that this item imagines what life would be like at Hogwarts - what clubs would people join? What would the students do in their free time? I think there would definitely be a Herbology Club! The graphic design is so beautifully thought out, and choosing this for the House colors item was so perfect! This looks so good in Ravenclaw navy, don’t you think?
Potted Mandrake Enamel Pin - Retail Value $10.00
Mandrakes are a perfect item for an enamel pin like this one - I love the colors! This mandrake looks much friendlier than what I would usually expect - maybe this one is sleepy, but it has the cutest little face! And how perfect is the icon of headphones right on the pot?
Neville Longbottom Articulated Paper Doll - Listed Value $14.00
I’m so happy to see Neville in this box! I imagine he would’ve been a staple in the Hogwarts gardens, so he’s a perfect addition to this box! These articulated paper dolls are so beautifully made, and this one comes with so many accessories! I love that Trevor was included here, as well as a mandrake, and earmuffs for that mandrake! I really want to hang this on the wall with my Luna doll.
Herbology Class Hand-Drawn Bookmark - Listed Value $2.00
I’m a big bookmark collector, and I love the ones that have been drawn! This is such a cute rendering of Professor Sprout repotting a mandrake, and the reverse side of Venomous Tentacula is the perfect touch to round out magical plantlife!
Herbology Plant Guide - Retail Value $20.00, Listed Value $15.00
The final item might actually be my favorite. I love this print - it includes magical plants of course, like gillyweed, but also muggle plants that have been featured in the wizarding world like dittany. The drawings are beautiful, and the overall design is so pleasing.
Verdict: I was really, really impressed with the execution of this month’s theme! I thought it was a good variety of items while still being cohesively related. The cap is something I would’ve never thought of including, and the idea of making it in House colors is rather inspired, I think! I really love the Herbology plant guide, and these articulated paper dolls are always so beautiful. They also brought a super-strong pin game - who wouldn’t want to wear a tiny mandrake? I love that all the items are beautifully made, and doing an Herbology theme is so unique and creative! Hip hip hooray once again for Accio! Box!
