Bless Box May 2018 Review
Bless Box has gotten a recent makeover with their box, and an info booklet that comes along with it. Inside, find the items included and listed values, plus interviews and general life tips.
This box also came with some coupons and extra information for the some of the brands included.
Smashmallow Cookie Dough Mallow, 4.5 oz – Retail Value $4
I have tried Smashmallow before because I found it for sale at Whole Foods, and I absolutely love them. If you’re not a marshmallow person you’re probably not going to be impressed, but if you are like me and enjoy marshmallows you will find these delectable. The cookie dough flavor was a new one for me, and I am really digging the marshmallow-cookie dough hybrid that this sweet treat provides. There are also mini chocolate chips peppered throughout which added some nice texture. Honestly, the hard part for me is not eating the entire bag in one sitting.
Swirl and Sparkle Mini Brush Cleaner in Goats Milk, .17 oz – Estimated Value $2.21, Listed Value $3.99 (buy the 1 oz version for $12.99)
This little guy packs a surprisingly impressive punch when it comes to cleaning my makeup brushes! Once I wet the top of the cleaner and rubbed a damp makeup brush in it, I swirled the brush into a cup of water. Almost all of the makeup was removed from my brush within a few seconds—I was a bit shocked by how easy it was. Because this is a small sample size it doesn’t have the surface area to clean a big face brush effectively, but this size is perfect for all of my eyeshadow brushes (of which I have about twenty). I am genuinely considering buying the full-size version of this, too!
L’Oreal Pure Clay Detox & Brighten Mask, Full-Size! Retail Value $12.99
Yay, full-size skincare! This is a charcoal mask that doesn’t become tight as you wear it, and it is designed to refresh and brighten tired and dull skin. This was gentle on my skin and comfortable to wear, and when it dries down you can see some of the oil in your pores coming out (the same way the Glam Glow super mud clearing mask dries down). I think this is a really solid drugstore face mask.
NCLA Nail Lacquer in We’re Off to Never Never Land, Full-Size! Retail Value $16
I love NCLA nail polishes, and I am really digging this purple-tinged grey. It is a great neutral for summer, and the formula made for a really easy application. This is the kind of color I will reach for when I want my nails to look extra professional while still having a bit of fun.
Lesser Evil Buddha Bowl Himalayan Pink Popcorn, .46 oz – Listed Value $0.99 (Buy 18 .88 oz bags for $17.99)
This was really tasty. I prefer butter on my popcorn, but that didn't stop me from opening this bag late at night and gobbling it down within a few minutes. Plus, I feel like this is a lot healthier for me than standard microwave popcorn. I think Bless Box really killed it with their snack selections this month!
Trestique Blush Stick in Bora Bora, .04 oz – Estimated Value $5.33 (Buy the Full-Size Version for $28), Listed Value $10
Subscribers could get St. Barths Pink or Bora Bora Coral, and I received Bora Bora. I am not a big blush person, and I stay away from coral-toned makeup as it doesn’t usually go well with my skin tone. That being said this blush is creamy and easy to blend, and it starts out sheer so you can build it up from a faint hint of color to a strong coral.
Shea Moisture Silicone Free Miracle Styler, 3.5 oz – Estimated Value $7.30 (Buy a full-size bottle for $16.69)
I think there was a miscommunication on the value of this because the full-size 8 oz version retails for $16.69 and this is less than half of the full-size version. This is still a generous sized sample, however, and I like the hint of shine it provides. It is supposed to help with tangles, too, and that probably is true for most people. My hair needs a little more horsepower in a detangling treatment, but I still really like this for shine and softness.
Simple Skincare Skin Quench Sleeping Cream, Full-Size! Retail Value $9.99
More full-size skincare! I enjoyed the water-gel texture of this moisturizer, and even though this is specifically for dry skin it didn’t feel heavy when I applied it to my oily skin. I didn’t find this to be a groundbreaking moisturizer, but it did its job and absorbed well.
Art Naturals Whipped Argan Oil Hair Mask, 8 oz - Retail Value $13
I use deep conditioners and hair masks the way most people use regular conditioner, so I am always happy to see full-sized hair masks like this one. The whipped formula makes it really light and easy to distribute through your hair. I don’t think this would hold up if your hair is extra dry or damaged, but this is a good mask for maintaining your hair when it is already healthy.
Go Smile Smile Stain Eraser, 14 x 0.02 oz - Retail Value $14
Well, this is neat! These 14 vials are made of glass with a cotton sponge at the end, and you crack the glass to get the product to distribute through the cotton. Then you rub it into your teeth! I did notice a small difference in the whiteness of my teeth after using these, however, I wasn’t a fan of the aftertaste. I will save these to use up before important events to add a boost when I really need it!
Ardell Beauty Hydra Cream Lipstick in Fox, Full-Size! Retail Value $9.99
This brown shade is really not my color, however, the lipstick itself is very hydrating and comforting to wear. Once I applied it I forgot I was wearing it, and though it doesn’t last as long as a liquid lipstick it lasts surprisingly long for a hydrating lipstick.
Here is the lipstick swatched above the blush.
Yu-Be Moisturizing Cream, .57 oz – Retail Value $6.95, Listed Value $9.99
This is an extra-strong, ultra-hydrating cream that can be used wherever you have dry skin that needs help. I have been using it as an overnight lip treatment on some extra-chapped lips, and I am really happy with the results! I like that I could use this all over my face and body—this is kind of like a fancy Vaseline. One thing that is interesting is that the full-size version of this is 1 oz and retails for $16, but this size (which is more than half the full-size) retails for about $7. So you actually get more product for less money if you buy two travel-size versions instead of one full-size version.
Georgette Klinger Vitamin C Toner, 1.7 oz – Retail Value $12
I really like the rose gold packaging on Georgette Klinger products, and this toner is a product I haven't tried from the brand. I thought it was gentle on my skin while being refreshing. I would need to use it longer than I have to really see if it helps with hyperpigmentation, however, I have high hopes!
Verdict: For $37.49 after shipping, Bless Box sent me 12 items with a retail value of $114.75. I am happy with that value, but more importantly, I am really happy with everything that was included in this box. Getting multiple full-size skincare items along with the hair mask and nail polish really made this a great box for me. This is only my second month reviewing Bless Box, but looking through Marne's reviews leads me to think this is one of the better boxes Bless has come out with. Apparently, they also have a history of sending snacks that aren't delicious—but that hasn't been the case in the past two months. Keep up the good work, Bless Box, and I look forward to the June box!
