BoxyCharm is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared the cost of the box. (If you are a makeup addict - I HIGHLY recommend this box!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: BoxyCharm

The Cost: $21 a month

The Products: 5-6 beauty items that will include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized).

Ships to: US and Canada

Check out all of our Boxycharm reviews!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included. This month is a "Caribbean Queen"!

Now, on to the items!

JonteBlu Eyeliner Pencil in 903 Dark Brown - Retail Value $5

(This item is a possible variant item. And it will be in multiple shades.)

This eyeliner has good pigment for a pencil, and it stayed put pretty well, too. (It's not a budge/smudge-proof eyeliner, though.) The brown shade works well for a natural look on me.

(Swatched in lower photo.)

OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Verona - Retail Value $20

(This is a variant item. Subscribers will either receive an OFRA Lippie or a Girlactik Lippie. Colors will vary. See spoilers here.)

I’ve sampled the OFRA Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick before, and the formula is great. The finish is matte but non-drying, the pigment is fantastic, and it seriously lasts, too!

This color is a warm mocha brown. I personally don't like how brown shades look with my skintone, so this shade is a miss for me. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Alamar Cosmetics Palette - Retail Value $28

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

This is the first palette from the new cosmetics company, Alamar Cosmetics. (Founded by Gabriela Trujillo!)

I am SO impressed with this palette! The colors are beautiful and the pigment is incredible! The shimmers can be applied with a wet brush for an even more intense look. (And the bottom four mattes are dry brush only.)

Here are all the colors swatched under the eyeliner and OFRA lipstick:

All of these swatches are one swipe only! Hands down one of the best palettes I've ever tried. And I love that this has a mix of colors that will work for everyday subtle looks, and shimmers for some seriously bold looks, too.

Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream - 25 ml Retail Value $10

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

If you haven't tried Bum Bum cream yet, it's pretty amazing. First, the Pistachio + Salted Caramel fragrance is amazing! The formula absorbs quickly, is super moisturizing, and has the added benefit of making your skin look tighter - perfect for legs!

This is a baby version of the Bum Bum cream, which is super cute, and probably good for a few uses. Here it is in my hand to give you a better sense of scale:

Luxie Brush Set - Retail Value $42

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

I love the luxie pink and rose gold metal color combination, and the synthetic brushes are great quality, too. Super soft!

Battington Monroe Silk Lashes - Retail Value $28

(All subscribers will receive this item.)

These lashes are 100% silk and provide moderate length and serious volume. Gorgeous! They are good for up to 25 uses, and are cruelty-free. (Tutorial from Haley on an intro to false lashes coming soon!)

Verdict: The total retail value of this box is $133! As usual, I think that's amazing for a $21 box - Boxycharm never disappoints! I love that they included Bum Bum cream in this box (even if it is a mini), and I'm so impressed with that palette.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! The Boxycharm waitlist is temporarily lifted!

Value Breakdown: At $21.00 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Palette: $4.42
  • Lashes: $4.42
  • OFRA: $3.16
  • Brush Set: $6.63
  • Eyeliner: $.79
  • Bum Bum Cream: $1.58

At this point, I would not recommend Boxycharm. My box arrived open and almost empty, and my post master made a point to note this (I sent Boxtcharm a photo of the note that my post master stuck on the open box). Boxycharm has not bothered to respond to my email. All I want is what they promise, and so far they are failing to do this. I am really, really disappointed in this company so far. Why don’t they bother to use an adhesive that works???

Nyesha

This is the first box that I have gotten that I will literally use EVERYTHING! The colors in this palette are not only pigmented but crazy vibrant and perfect for the summer. So pleased this month! Keep it going strong!

Revlon makes a really great lash glue that you apply with a brush so you can use as little or as much as you like. It’s an opalescent color when wet and dries clear but it stays tacky for a little while so if your placement is wonky you can just lift and reapply. An extra dab on each corner helps. All you need is a good pair of fine point tweezers along with it. Hope that helps. Easy and effective. I’ve tried so many adhesives and lashes. I don’t bother with anything but the Revlon these days.

Did anyone get a liquid lip in anything besides the Ofra Verona? I sure would like to try one of the Gerlackic ones! Does anyone like the Verona? Would anyone like to swap?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I’ve seen 1 person say they got a girlactik, but I haven’t seen anyone get it yet. Imo the Verona is a terrible shade of orangish brown. I didn’t even open it. Gave it to my mother who likes that kind of color, but tbh they don’t look good on her.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

One thing about the Ofra color that has not been mentioned is how it reeks of coconut.

I know coocnut stuff is trendy right now, but it was very unpleasant. And strong.

Immediately trashed.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I got the Dark Brown eye pencil and the Ofra Verona lip.

Verona is more on the brown end of the mauve spectrum, not that mud brown earlier photos show.

Reply ButtonReply

Nyesha

I am happy to say that i will use every product in the June box…wow. 1st time ever.

Eliza_villa87

Random question… I just got my box today. The BumBum cream… inside there was a seal top thing but it wasn’t actually attached to the packaging? Is it supposed to be attached? I mean, if I was purchasing something at Sephora or Ulta and the seal was broken, I would assume it was tampered with. Does it normally some attached or detached? Has this happened to anyone else?

Reply ButtonReply

V

I received 2 of the same sizes from Sephora for 100 points each and the seal was not attached. It was half in the lid and half out on 1 and all the way in the lid on the other. It definitely was not sealed.

I can’t wait till my box comes, just got the shipping!!!!!!!!!!!

Jess

Boxycharm Beauties on FB posted a sneak peak from yosefs instagram story for the Crown -Heat eye shadow palette! maybe for next month?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Idk. Hank and Henry just dropped a new product and it’s an eyeshadow. Remember that Yosef said h&h was coming soon and the item would be a brand new release. Doesn’t make sense for multiple shadows in 1 box.

Reply ButtonReply

Jess

Yes coming soon, the H&H spoiler was just a brand spoiler and the item has not been confirmed. Yosef actually showed the palette and the brand today on his IG along with a the Tarte setting spray. I mean it could be for a future month but when he shows sneak peaks its usually for the next month.

Anon

Very Dissapointed with this month’s box. I wish I would have cancelled before the money was taken out but the box has already shipped. I was excited for the bum-bum cream UNTIL I saw its a teensy tiny “Sample” travel size. I really thought we would have at the very least gotten the “medium” size but apparently not. I also cannot wear ANY type of eyeshadow as Im allergic doesnt matter the brand my eyes will swell up & immediatley begin watering non-stop so cant use that…The lashes have a big thick lashband which you can only wear with a thick coat of eyeliner on your lid or it will show that is if your somehow lucky enough to get the glue to hold that big thick band down without it popping up in the corners of your eyes…they eyeliner is brown, not my shade would have been able to use if it was black…I dont wear lipstick/lipgloss so basically I paid $21 for the brush set….I am a little dissapointed to say the least in this months box. The last few months have been better…but if the box is anything like this june box was next month…I will definetly be cancelling the subscription. I am very, very, very tired of receiving an “Eyeshadow Pallete” EVERY MONTH as it is..I wish they would consider the “possibility” that not everyone can wear or does wear eyeshadow & Lipstick for that matter…being that EVERY single month we get Eyeshadow & a Lipstick/Lipgloss I always have to “Gift” those products anyway. So I only get to use 3 items out of the box each month so I always hope those are something I can use/wear. There is so many other makeup products out there that they could include in these boxes like Contour products, Highlighter, Brow Products, Blush, Mascara, Setting powder, Maybe nail polish, masks, skin care etc…I really wish Boxycharm would consider broadening their horizons and putting some of these other items in the boxes besides just eyeshadow/lippies. I would be thrilled to receive ANY of those other products that I could actually use…

Erma Talamantes

You shouldn’t order at all then if your allergic seems like you complain about the makeup when u hardly should wear any as you shouldn’t since your very sensitive to eyeshadow and the cream yes was small but like try to buy those things in a store and 21$ really is cheap for all that and u should know by now what they send every month and if you don’t like certain things then maybe boxy charm isn’t for you

Reply ButtonReply

Jenna Rieben

I agree boxycharm isn’t for you and you’re just wasting your money.

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie Belt

Anon…it sounds like Boxycharm isn’t the box for you. Boxy is mostly makeup. It’s a rare month if you don’t get a pallet of some sort.
Beautyfix has a good mix of body and skin care with a little hair care and occasional makeup item.
Macy’s is more skin care related all high end usually has 1 makeup item in it 2 at most.
Allure is a good mix of everything and one I’d really recommend for what your describing you want.
Ipsy will have a variety of all products that are SUPPOSED to be matched to your profile that you fill out. So if you don’t want eye shadow or lipstick you fill that in and they shouldn’t send it to you. I would also recommend Ipsy to you.
You could sub to both allure and Ipsy for just $4 a month more than boxy and you’d have 2 boxes to choose from.
Hope this helps.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

As a regular reader of this site, it would be impossible to miss the spoilers and reviews of Boxycharm and not know the kind of products that will be in it. Most of us are here to carefully choose which subs we want to spend our money on. Please choose one more suited to your needs. Hope you find one that you like as much as most of us enjoy Boxy!

Reply ButtonReply

T.Marie

Boxycharm if an eyeshadow palette box. I think most of us get it bc it has an eyeshadow palette every month and we love lippies, that’s an assumption. There’s plenty of other boxes out there. Go read some reviews.

Reply ButtonReply

Redhed36

Not sure what you sub to but if you have an eyeshadow allergy I would avoid Boxycharm. I would suggest BeautyFix. Check this site for reviews. There is very little makeup. If you want makeup but not eyeshadow pallets. I would suggest Ipsy, Allure, Birchbox, or Sephora Play. These are mostly sample sizes so if there is an eyeshadow its pretty small, so little loss to you. Also with most of these there is a profile you can fill out to help you avoid eyeshadow.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

I second the beauty fix recommendation if you are looking for skincare. Boxy almost always has eyeshadow so it sounds like a bad match for you personally. I’ve been pretty happy with allure too, which leans more skin care but occasionally has eyeshadow.

Jamie

Hi Anon! You commented the same thing before. I understand that you’re unhappy with boxy and you want them to recognize that ppl who subscribe to makeup boxes don’t want makeup. I still believe you would be happier with Julep or even Ipsy, a less makeup heavy box that can be more personalized. The majority of ppl are happy with the way boxy is now. It’s not perfect for every1 (nothing is), but by your description you’re unlikely to be satisfied with any makeup heavy subscription that doesn’t include a personalized aspect, which boxycharm doesn’t. I wish you luck finding the right sub for yourself. This one doesn’t seem to be a good fit. Have a great day!

Reply ButtonReply

Grace J

Basically what you are saying is that Boxy Charm is not for you. I would look at Lola box, their sister company they tend to send more skin care. Also look at other sub boxes on this site and see what you like. Most of us subscribe to Boxy Charm because they send eye palettes every month and are very makeup heavy. This seems like you picked the wrong box to try. I love the fact that they send tons of makeup and not skin care and other stuff. There are so many others out there that would be a better fit for you than this.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Yes except Lola isn’t related to boxy. Idk where that got started but it’s just a rumor with no truth to it

StephKlos

I just received my box today after receiving my shipping notice on Saturday. It helps that I’m less than 2 hours away from it’s distribution center. Anyway, my thoughts:

Pallette: LOVE! The pigment is incredible and I’m planning on using it for a look for my family’s annual Fourth of July party and parade watching.

Bum Bum: This smells divine. I will be purchasing a large version.

Lashes: I’ll play with them. Bummed that we got an eyeliner instead of lash glue.

Eyeliner: I received Charcoal. I wear eyeliner nearly every day and this is much softer than my go-to black and will work well for me. Not very exciting but it will be used.

Ofra lipstick: Got Verona which actually goes on much browner than it looks from the tube. Makes me look completely…unwell. I would’ve loved a bright pink or red for this month, or even a balm with sunscreen.

Brushes: Very soft. I love my MAC foundation brush, but I’m creating a makeup bag to store at my parents’ house two hours away so I don’t have to pack everything each time I visit, so they will work nicely for that.

This is a great box for me and I’m happy with the value for the price. This is my only sub but I can see how you can quickly have an overstock of products in a short amount of time.

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

Agree that a brighter lip color would have been better for a “Caribbean Queen” theme.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

Really looking forward to everything but the lashes. Will be swapping both my pairs and 1 of the palettes and of course the eyeliner.

Reply ButtonReply

Susan Cain

Hi Michelle….like you I won’t be using the lashes….but if I DID wear falsies….what an amazing BoxyCharm product in June’s box….Not wanting any eyeliners(NEVER my shade of lights, like Purple, turquoise, anything but black and brown would work)lipliners(have never ever used and not planning to) or do I plan on using the Ofra lippie if in the AGAIN ANOTHER BROWN FAMILY…SHADE!)
So much question to you Michelle….who do you use to trade your products? I would also like to sell some of the MANY MANY products I have un-used and un-opened from past boxes,if anyone can recommend where I can look to do this….I would appreciate it very much for the info PLEASE AND THANK YOU❣️I will probably sell my eyeshadow palette also and keep the Luxie Brushes(I’d be a fool to get rid of,lol) and the Bum Bum Cream….again….a fool, lol

Reply ButtonReply

T.Marie

I sell on eBay at a fraction of the cost. However, I try to keep around 40+ auctions going so it all sounds out. I also swap here to get the stuff I really want!!

lexana

Helpful eyelash hint from a trained makeup artist*: Place glue in a line on your hand. Dip the lashes in that line. They will be stickier and go on easier. You don’t want glue in your eye…it is unpleasant at best.

*i am not the mua, just learned from one.

I need my box! It’s not coming until the end of the week. I can’t wait to get a look at that palette and use it. Really pleased with this month’s products. Boxycharm is just great!

Reply ButtonReply

AmyM

The blue and green eyeshadow swatches are GORGEOUS! wow! But, I could go the rest of my life without seeing another brown liquid matte lipstick. When is that trend going to end? Also, I used to think that a person could never have too many makeup brushes. I was wrong. What does everyone do with all of them? Do you just use them for awhile and then toss them to use the new ones we get? I’m genuinely curious.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Most of my current brushes aren’t of great quality so I’m replacing what I have with the better ones I’m getting from boxes.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

Yes I want to know! I have such a stash of brushes that are too good to throw out but have been replaced by newer ones. What do you do with them?

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I use my old brushes for painting and crafts.

Pink5

I rotate mine. Use one of one type for a while, put it up, use a similar one for a while.

It also gives me the opportunity to replace my really old brushes.

Alyssa Weinzapfel

Sephora currently has that bum bum cream in the rewards Bazaar for 100 points, I just picked one up. Also they told me at Sephora if I came in and made a purchase, they would both show me how to apply the lashes and apply the lashes. It’s a mini class.

Reply ButtonReply

Alisha

So excited for this months box!! I’ve already gone out and purchase lash glue and the little lash applicators. Never tried false lashes before so I’ll have to watch some videos. Never tried the bum bum cream and the palette is just amazing. The end of the week can’t get here fast enough. (My box should arrive by Friday or Saturday)

Reply ButtonReply

KelBam

I’m going to be going to buy lash glue myself! I wish they included in the box for us that didn’t already have it (I technically had some, that was actually unopened and from another box, but wasn’t sure if it was still good so threw it out). I wore lashes for the weekends before I had my Littles, but it’s been a long time so I need to watch some vids myself too! I got my shipping notice today, so excited about it cause it’s my first boxy! And I can’t wait to try the bum bum cream! I guess it’ll probably be Monday when it gets here..

Reply ButtonReply

Pink5

I got another set of false lashes with a Sephora set, and picked up Ulta’s best-rated glue.

In theory I can take the lashes to a Sephora and have someone teach me.

I wear glasses, so I don’t know if I’d have trouble with them bumping the lenses.

Anyone out there run into this?

Reply ButtonReply

wackyjgal

Am really looking forward to the palette, brushes, and especially the bum cream. I love Boxycharm but I always have problems when I try to redeem my charms! I’ve read the directions and do exactly as told. I emailed them about this and that doesn’t help either because by the time I get a reply the items I picked out are gone by then. Does anyone else have the same thing happening to them?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

To redeem charms select the item, add to cart and go to check out. On the checkout page you’ll see estimated total with a pic of a cart next to the quantity ordered. Click the pic of the cart. Look down a bit and you’ll see a space for codes and a button that says use charms. Click that button and it will walk you through the rest of the steps.
Hope this helps!

Reply ButtonReply

T.Marie

I do too. T tries to charge my credit card instead.

Reply ButtonReply

Ariel

It seems that I can only redeem points through my desktop computer/laptop. If I try to redeem through my phone it doesn’t work at all. Maybe it’s the same for you?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I’ve only ever redeemed them on my phone, an android if it matters

Shawna

Yeah, I always have that issue too.

Reply ButtonReply

shari

I know they do not curate these boxes with me just in mind. Yet, I really wish they would stop with these brown lippies. I just simply can’t wear them with my skin tone. They make me look so washed out. I love Pinks or lippies with a Pink undertone and bright colors as well even the metallic’s look nice. With that being said boxycharm is still a wonderful bargain and I can always swap the lippie.

Reply ButtonReply

Margi

I totally agree with you! I get 5 subs a month, and love them, but I have a gazillion brown/nude colors, and the same with me, they fall flat on me, and give me a ‘sallow’ look. Please give us some reds, pinks, fushia colors!

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Sallie! That’s the word I was tying to think of the other day when describing how these warm brown lippies make me look!

THANK YOU!! I was losing my mind trying to remember lolol

Chrissy

Have you tried doing like an hombre look with the colors that don’t work or use it as a pop of light on the center lip or even mix it with a darker hippie to create your own new color there are so many thing you can use them for to get your $ worth hope this helps

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

Haha! Some of us are way too lazy to do an ombré lip 😂 My lip palettes get passed on unused. At least I donate them to a good home.

Jamie

I wish that boxycharm would do surveys that ask what colors we want in boxes for different products. I’m pretty sure that yuck brown would score pretty low on the list.
I don’t mind a nude brown, like a beige I guess it would be, but the flat out just brown is ugh. It does the same to me as to you. Makes me look dead or as if I’m about to die from consumption, but the same thing happens when I wear any orange toned lippie or any liipe described as burnt. You know how on the Sephora site they have that try on feature? I used that to virtually try on dozens of colors on who knows how many shades and tones and I figured out that anything too warm, orange toned, green, mid toned or darker brown, most reds, even some pinks all make me look somewhere between mildly flu like and one step from deaths door.

Reply ButtonReply

vm

It’s a variation of lip products this month so it’s a chance you wont get the brown. The other 2 colors look red and pinky. Cross fingers, I don’t want brown either.

Reply ButtonReply

SunnyT

I’m most bummed about the lippie this month. I’ve only seen the OFRA Verona in all the boxes reviewed so far, so I know I can expect it. This box would have been good perfect with a pink or creamy nude tone lippie. Oh well!

Reply ButtonReply

SunnyT

As expected… I received Ofra Verona, as expected the color is terrible poo poo brown. Tried it on and put it where it belongs… In the trash! The rest of the box is nice, not wowed this month.

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

I notice that the description for the box itself had changed! It used to say 4-5 full sized products. Now it says “5-6 beauty items that will include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized)” I currently LOVE Boxycharm AS IT IS. If I wanted to get skin care, hair products, nail stuff or perfume there are literally sub boxes out there that cater to those specific categories. I sub to boxycharm for makeup and makeup related items/products. I’m already getting an item or 2 every month that I can’t use and I don’t mind terribly bc the other items more than make up for that, but if Boxy starts broadening the box range to cover so many things then each box will have more and more unusables for me and even though the dollar value will still be there the usable dollar value won’t. That’s just really disappointing! If this is something they really want to do then maybe they can do a separate sub or create a skin/hair option that ppl can select or not select or something bc I’m so not here for this. Also not here for losing out on one of my full sized items per month. What is this? What’s happening to boxycharm? The last 4 months have been pretty good boxes (not February. Galaxy is not a good color on everyone) and now this? I don’t like how this makes me feel. An almost perfect June box, minus the not at all summery lip colors, and now major box changes?

Reply ButtonReply

Reidy.

I have been with boxy for about 4.5yrs and the All Makeup boxes are relatively new. It was always Makeup/hair/skin/tools. There would be maybe 2/3 make up items and the rest would be beauty related. Maybe they are going back to the original format.

Reply ButtonReply

Tarah

Preface – I love Boxycharm, even if/when items are a miss- the value is incredible and the product curation is so impressive.
That said, I’m bummed they didn’t include lash glue with the lashes. I’ve tried Baddington before- they’re such a great quality. But I don’t have lash glue laying around , and I would have preferred that any day to the Jontblu:/

Reply ButtonReply

Iggy'sRock

I have it on my swap list!! lol

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie

Agreed. I feel like even a tiny to be of glue would have been preferable to the liner which, imo, doesn’t add any real value to the box. It’s a black or brown pencil liner, nothing special. We can get the same thing from wet n wild at Wal-Mart or where ever for abt $2. Meanwhile a lash glue, lash applicator or a mini lash set with both plus a scissor and case would have been useful * amazing. Again, just my opinion, but if the lashes are supposed to be worn 20-25 times ppl need the proper things to be able to use them.
