CAUSEBOX Summer Subscription Box June 2018 Review
As usual, this box includes a thoughtful mini-magazine of information about the featured brands and artist.
The booklet mentions artist Coco Dávez, who created the vibrant orange and blue artwork for this month's box. She also designed the following postcard:
Coco Dávez Art Card/Postcard
This bold design is perfect for summer vacation season. But I can also see framing this and popping it on the mantle to bring the summer vibes into my living room.
Fair Seas Supply Co. Turkish Towel - Retail Value $44.00
It's Turkish towel season again, my friends! It's understandable why these towels are so trend-worthy. This sunshine-yellow towel is versatile enough to use at the beach, as a pool cover-up, as a super-sized scarf, or even around the house as a table runner. This particular towel is made from sustainable organic cotton, so it doesn't just look nice—it feels good and wears beautifully, too.
Kevia Tassel Necklace
To be honest, I didn't expect to love this piece of jewelry as much as I do. This ethically made design is just one super long, thin chain with white tassels on either end. Its beauty is in its versatility, much like the Turkish towel. You can swing it around your neck to make a layered necklace (or a chic take on a bolo tie, as I did above), use it around your wrist as a bracelet, or explore any other configuration you can imagine. (Body chain? Hair accessory? Boho crown? It's up to you!) The delicate texture of the chain actually holds onto itself pretty well, so that things felt secure after looping it around a few times. I couldn't find this design online, so I'd imagine this is a more unique, harder-to-find piece. I also LOVED reading about the socially and environmentally minded entrepreneur behind this brand in the booklet! Her story and passion were so inspiring.
Exclusive Tribe Alive Convertible Clutch/Purse
There are three different versions of this bag that subscribers could receive. (We'll take a look at the other versions in a sec.) I love this blue one that I got in my box! The fabric is a soft canvas in a two-toned pale blue pattern. Inside, the bag is plain canvas with enough room to comfortably house a book, a wallet, and even a small iPad when unfolded. Folded up, it looks refined, yet fun—something for when I want to impress at a summer picnic without looking like I'm trying too hard. Unfolded and paired with its included gold chain, it's the kind of thing I'd swing over my shoulder before heading out on summer errands or popping out on vacation weekend activities. That little tassel is the perfect accent, too. Love!
And in case you're curious, the other colors include this pink stripe...
... and this white one with black lines!
L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil, 75 ml - Buy an 8.4 fl. oz. bottle for $25.00 here
I've used L'Occitane products before, and I love how elegant the aromas and formulas are. This oil replaces soap in your shower—it still foams up a bit, but the product doesn't strip or stress your skin like soaps can. Also, it smells deliciously fresh and nutty. My skin was softer than it usually is coming out of the shower after using this instead of body wash!
Zoya Nail Polish, Set of 3 - Retail Value $10.00 each
Zoya nail polish has all of the staying power, smoothness, and pigment of other notable brands, minus the harmful toxins. This set of summer colors ranges from understated to all-out glamorous. Even on my tiny nails (grow, nails, grow!), they look pretty fab. The red is called "Sonja", the white is "Purity", and the beige is called "Jack".
Karuna Antioxidant+ Sheet Masks, Set of 4 - Retail Value $28.00
I learned from the booklet that Karuna was the first US sheet mask brand! Cool! While this mask delivers a boost of antioxidants, it also pumped a ton of moisture into my combination skin. The thing I'm most impressed by here is that they gave me a set of 4 masks, which means I can use this same treatment over time and see what impact it has on my skin. Typically, boxes only send one mask, which usually means my skin gets moisturized but doesn't feel the benefits that might come from repeat use. So I'm excited by the thoughtful choice to include more than one!
d.stil 28 oz. Water Bottle in Powdered Sky - Retail Value $9.99
I love the color and clean lines of this water bottle. The top is a "pinch and carry", meaning the strap also acts as a drawstring of sorts to pull the plastic lid down tight around the opening of the bottle. There's also a wider twist off section, too, so you can add ice or fruit to your water. The company supports water.org, which I admire, and the bottle even comes with a yellow hair elastic for good measure!
Subscribers may also have received this pink stainless steel bottle, which comes with a gray hair tie!
Verdict: I looooved this month's box! In general, I think this subscription has a cool, fresh vibe that really appeals to me, and this month was a great example of that. I loved the bright, trend-savvy pastels in the water bottle, towel, and bag. I also just love how everything feels so aspirational and hip—if you're worried about ethical/sustainable/community-minded products being somehow less beautiful or high quality than the more commercial brands you're used to, this box should dispell that. The Zoya nail polish, for instance, is less toxic than lots of the more mainstream versions, but it's just as reliable and dreamy to use. I love this box for product and brand discovery, but also just as a treat to get myself (or someone else—it's a great gift idea!) each quarter. It's a pricier subscription for me, but I feel like the value is there.
