Fit Lifestyle Box May 2018 Review
This box has a lower price point than a lot of the other fitness subscriptions, so it could be a good entry-level fitness box for people who don’t want to spend a ton of money. Let’s see what May’s box had inside:
There wasn’t a traditional information card, since boxes can vary a bit depending on your selections at sign-up, but there was a 30-day arm workout plan. You should expect to receive a workout with every box.
Custom T-Shirt
You can see from the “FLB” part that this is an exclusive design for this box. I am honestly not too picky about workout shirts. I definitely prefer short-sleeved shirts like this, especially during the summer, and I do like the main color. This fits pretty well (the shirts are a unisex style, which you should keep in mind when ordering) and seems to be holding up in the wash so far.
Braingear Brain Performance Formula – Buy 3 Packages for $10.99
What I like about this product is that if you go to this page on their site, you can click through the ingredients and see the purpose of each one. This product contains some antioxidants and some B vitamins as well as a few compounds that are components of cell membranes (that are supposed to work together to modulate serotonin activity – so definitely ask your doctor before consuming this if you are on an antidepressant). This has only 10 calories and is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach to provide better focus and clearer thinking. Unfortunately, the stevia taste in this is so strong I just couldn’t make myself finish (I really, really dislike the flavor of stevia).
‘Merica Labz Red White and Boom High Caliber Pre-workout Ammunition in “Freedom” (1 serving) – Buy 20 Servings for $44.99
Well, this brand is new to me, so that is something. It is unclear exactly what the flavor is supposed to be but there is a picture of one of those red, white, and blue popsicles on it (I haven’t had one of those in decades as they give me hives, so I don’t actually know what they taste like and can’t compare the flavor of this to those as a result). This is sweetened with sucralose and acesulfame potassium, which I find infinitely preferable to stevia. This seems more suited to people who do heavy lifting workouts as it contains creatine (proven to help build muscle) and a lot of caffeine and other stimulants. I thought this tasted all right so if I was in the market for this sort of product, I’d consider it, but I tend to prefer pre-workout powders with no creatine (causes water weight gain) and definitely no stimulants.
Buff Bake Protein Cookie in Peanut Butter Cup (2.82 oz) – Buy a 6-Pack for $11.99
I always find it funny how Buff Bake cookies don’t look a thing like the picture on the package and this one is no exception. However, I do like receiving them. They are vegetarian (contain whey protein, eggs, nonfat dry milk powder, and honey, though, so definitely not vegan). They do have the texture of something a bit eggier than traditional wheat flour cookies, but they remain soft in the package, which I prefer in a packaged cookie, and they actually have quite a lot of fiber as well (macronutrients are well-balanced here).
That’s It Apple + Blueberry Bites – Buy 6 Pouches for $13.99
This was also a new product for me (though I’ve had other items from this brand before). This brand’s thing is providing snacks with very few ingredients. These are vegan, non-GMO, kosher, and gluten-free if any of those are of concern to you. We received two flavors of these and I couldn’t really tell which was which (I guess the apple dominates) but they are reasonably low in calories and survived getting a bit melted in my mailbox.
That’s It Apple + Coconut Bites – Buy 6 Pouches for $13.99
This was the second flavor we received. I could not taste coconut (that doesn’t mean they’re bad, by any means, it just means don’t buy these expecting them to be super coconutty). These have a relatively soft texture and some fiber, although they are a bit high in sugar (17 grams, although quite a lot of that is simply a natural component of the fruit ingredients).
Verdict: I didn’t calculate a total value for the May 2018 Fit Lifestyle Box because the shirt can’t be purchased separately, nor are some of the food items available for individual purchase. The box costs $20 a month plus $6 shipping and there were six items, including the shirt, for an average price of $4.33 per item. Obviously, some of the snacks don’t cost that much, but the shirt is going to be more, and I think it probably averages out. Also, and I can’t really stress this enough, but the food items were all new to me (I’ve had Buff Bake cookies before but not this flavor), and that almost never happens with food-based subscription boxes. (Also they were all vegetarian, which was nice.) I was very excited not to get a bunch of repeat items from other boxes!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the June box.
Value Breakdown: at $26 for this box ($20 monthly plus $6 shipping), you are paying approximately $4.33 per item.
