Frank And Oak Style Plan for Men June 2018 Review
When you first sign up for this subscription, you fill out a quick style profile that captures your sizing preferences and your sense of style. (Choose from Casual, Classic, and Creative). Then, you can pick whether you’d like a monthly or a bi-monthly plan and set your budget for each box (under $150 or $150+).
John chose Classic and straight fit.
Before your box ships, you get an email inviting you to hop in and preview your order. The page that opens up has about 12 products total on the page, and the three products set to ship are at the top of the page and marked with green check marks. The plan includes three items, but you can choose more than three if you’d like. You can also switch out any of your three items for another. The prices are all discounted for you, so it’s a deal compared to just shopping the regular site.
Here’s the invoice for the three pieces John ended up with, plus the return instructions. (If you didn’t know before, Frank And Oak is a Canadian company, which explains all the French you’ll see on their packaging and paperwork!)
John actually switched out all three items for another three from the 12 they give you. The original three were items that John knew he wouldn’t like (drawstring shorts, thermal sweater, and rust colored shirt). Let’s see what he ended up choosing!
He’s put together an outfit using two of the pieces this month.
Short-Sleeve Splatter Print Supersoft Cotton-Blend Shirt in Navy Blue, Size L - Retail Value $59.50, Member Price $49.50
So, I kind of nudged John to pick this shirt. He needs a few funkier things in his wardrobe. I’m glad he did because I love it (so does he). The 52% cotton, 48% rayon fabric really is super soft and lightweight. John doesn’t normally go for slim-fit shirts, but this one fits so nicely. It gives him some structure without squeezing anywhere. The print is a mix of navy, gray, mauve, and white splatters that remind me of those optical illusion books from my childhood. The best part: it doesn’t wrinkle too badly and the pattern hides the less-than-crisp look.
The Newport Recycled Hemp Chino Short in Sage Mix, Size 34 - Retail Value $69, Member Price $59.50
These are nice! The 70% recycled hemp and 30% cotton blend is soft and cool. I like the sleek look of these and the length is just right for John (5’10”). There are two buttoned back pockets and a tiny hidden coin pocket at the bottom of the front right hip pocket. This color is so perfect for pairing with all different top because it is basically a neutral. John will get a lot of wear out of these this summer with the temps already hitting the mid-90s here.
Long Sleeve Linen Blend Shirt in Navy, Size L - Retail Value $59.50, Member Price $49.50
Oh, I love a good linen shirt! This one is so soft and the heathered navy fabric is so pretty. It’s made of 40% polyester, 35% cotton, and 25% linen, so it does wrinkle but nothing a quick steam can’t fix. It’s a bit too long for John to wear it untucked, and maybe even a bit long in the arms. Nothing a good tuck and roll can’t fix. I like the rolled sleeve look better anyway. I think this will be a great option for going out to dinner or even for casual summer weddings.
The Verdict: I’m very impressed with this first month of Frank And Oak Style Plan for John. The fabrics are so soft and breathable and the items are well-made. The pricing and style feel similar to what he might find at the GAP, but with a sustainable angle. I’m glad he was able to preview the items and make changes because I don’t think it would have been such a hit with the original picks. The items he chose fit so nicely and are very much his style, so he’s a happy guy.
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, each box is customized based on your style plan. Under the new $25 styling fee plan, boxes ship automatically on the 1st of the month, and you can log in 2 days before shipment to add or remove items or skip the month altogether. That said, you can still follow the product links above to shop these items for yourself from their site catalog!
Coupon - Now through 6/30, use coupon code JUNE15 to save 15% off all regular items at Frank And Oak! Plus, get free shipping on order over $100!
Value Breakdown: The member’s price is $158.50 for the three items I received this month, which would have cost $188 at their regular retail prices. If I decide to return all three items, I will pay the $25 styling fee and will be refunded the remaining amount, but I can keep any one item at the discounted price and no styling fee will be charged.
