Frank And Oak Style Plan June 2018 Review
When you first sign up for this subscription, you fill out a quick style profile that captures your sizing preferences and your sense of style. (Choose from Casual, Classic, and Creative). Then, you can pick whether you'd like a monthly or a bi-monthly plan and set your budget for each box (under $150 or $150+).
Before your box ships, you get an email inviting you to hop in and preview your order. The page that opens up has about 12 products total on the page, and the three products set to ship in my order are at the top of the page and marked with green check marks. The plan includes three items, but you can choose more than three if you'd like. The prices are all discounted for you, so it's a deal compared to just shopping the regular site.
Last month, I noticed that the items I got to choose from seemed to differ slightly from when I first got my email to when I checked in and made my final selections the next day. This time around, things seemed to stay the same day to day!
Here's the invoice for the three pieces I ended up with, plus the return instructions. (If you didn't know before, Frank And Oak is a Canadian company, which explains all the French you'll see on their packaging and paperwork!)
Let's check out what I got!
Sustainable Muscle Tank in Lunar Rock Heather, Size Medium - Retail Value $34.50, Member Price $27.50
The first item I tried on was this simple, versatile muscle tank. I love the heathered hue, which feels crisp, yet casual. The fabric is a sustainable 50-50 cotton-Tencel blend that's smooth, soft, and perfectly cool for the summer weather. There was only one flaw in this design, which is the tiny hole in the front right side of the shirt! I asked Frank and Oak how they handle situations like this, and lickety-split, they replied with some helpful info:
If a customer receives an item that's damaged upon arrival, or there's a defect that produces within the first wears, we're happy to help facilitate a return or exchange (if the item is still available).
We ask customers to contact us (Member Services) for assistance via the online chat function on our site, to make sure we're aware of the issue. We usually ask them to provide us with a picture of the item, if possible. We take these kinds of issues seriously and report every case to our quality control team for review (and to ensure that these issues aren't repeated in the future).
Since we don't have a direct exchange process online, customers can simply return + place a new order right away since they still get the Member Pricing site-wide (no need to wait for the next monthly box). Alternatively, they can bring the item back to a local store for assistance (if they have one nearby).
This is the first issue I've had with a Frank and Oak pieces, so even though it's a bit of an inconvenience to exchange this tank, it certainly doesn't cloud my opinion of the company.
Big Cuff Linen Blend Pants in Aztec, Size 12 - Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50
I LOVE these pants. As with most trousers, they run long on me (especially compared to how they look on the model online). I'm only 5' 3", so these pants, which I think are supposed to seem more cropped, actually hit me exactly where I'd want them as regular-length pants, haha! I love the color and the 62.5% Tencel and 37.5% linen fabric feels smooth, crisp, and breezy. The pockets come sewn shut to help retain the silhouette, but they do exist if you want to snip the threads tacking them down. These pants are meant to sit higher on my hips, so the 12 is actually just a smidge big on me. But I'd rather keep them a little big and tailor them down if ever I need. Personally, I love this baggier silhouette. Not only does it feel kind of fresh and hip, but it's also super comfortable!
Sustainable Crew Neck Tee in Lunar Rock Heather, Size Medium - Retail Value $39.50, Member Price $34.50
This is going to be my new favorite shirt, I can just tell. The tee is the same color as the muscle tank but in a versatile, slightly boxy crew neck silhouette. I love the wider cut of the sleeves and the slightly relaxed shape. It's also a cotton-Tencel blend, so it breathes beautifully. It actually looks really smart tucked into my new pants!
Verdict: I love this styling service! It was a bummer to get a slightly damaged item, but I was encouraged by Frank And Oak Style Plan's speedy customer service. The pricing and style feel similar to what I might find at the GAP, but with a sustainable angle that I really appreciate. The clothes just fit me well (if a little bit longer, as with the pants, but that's something I'm used to as a shorter person), and they fit my style even better!
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, each box is customized based on your style plan. Under the new $25 styling fee plan, boxes ship automatically on the 1st of the month, and you can log in 2 days before shipment to add or remove items or skip the month altogether. That said, you can still follow the product links above to shop these items for yourself from their site catalog!
Coupon - Now through 6/30, use coupon code JUNE15 to save 15% off all regular items at Frank And Oak! Plus, get free shipping on order over $100!
Value Breakdown: I paid the member's price of $131.50 for the three items I received this month, which would have cost me $153.50 at their regular retail prices. If I decide to return all three items, I will pay the $25 styling fee and will be refunded the remaining amount, but I can keep any one item at the discounted price and no styling fee will be charged.
