World of Wizardry May 2018 Review
In each box from Geek Gear, you’ll find a handy booklet listing all of the products inside! In addition to the products, you will also find a clue for an item in next month’s box and a “Subscriber Spotlight” featuring a community member. The pamphlet is a little bit different this month, as is the color of the box! I like these updates and I’m excited to see what the box has in store.
Recipe Cards
This month is Cauldron Cupcakes and Spicy Love Potion! I loved seeing a drink recipe for a change, and that this doesn’t have any soda or artificial ingredients in it. The cupcakes are filled with a delicious-looking buttercream, and again, I really like how the directions are laid out to go step by step to ensure baking success!
Exclusive Sinister Scarf - Listed Value $15.92
Accessories are always welcome, and this dark take is an especially great approach! This pattern is a nice continuation of the t-shirt from last month’s box with the Death Eater masks. It’s a closed circle, infinity-style scarf, and the black-and-grey color motif will go with everything I own!
Exclusive Sinister Cushion Cover - Listed Value $13.27
The second item I discovered in the box matched the first! This is a cushion cover with the same print, which was actually designed by GeekGear. I like that this is printed on both sides, but like other cushion covers I’ve received from this sub, it would probably be best for an outdoor patio set - the fabric is well-printed, but pretty rough and not something that would be super-comfy on a couch!
Hogwarts House Lanyard - Listed Value $10.61
This month’s house item is a keeper (see what I did there?)! This lanyard includes a plastic case that would fit cards or an id, and I really like the crest charm that’s included. I’m not sure this is something that I would use a ton, but it’s definitely useful, and at the very least, would look really cute hanging on the wall.
Exclusive Luna Lion Print - Listed Value $6.63
I always loved that even though Luna is a Ravenclaw (like me!), she was never shy in her support of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. This headdress she created for games is such a bold, quirky statement and is perfectly in character. This poster is an officially-licensed still from the movie, featuring actress Evanna Lynch in the role of Luna.
Exclusive Wand - Listed Value $15.92
This quirky, really unique looking wand could only belong to Fred Weasley! In wizard lore, there isn’t any information on what wood or core material his wand was made from, but in real life, this has an iron core for extra stability. Fred and George are two of my favorite characters in the series, and Fred’s death was one of the most devastating moments in the entire series. This wand is so well-made, and now that I have so many wands, I think I might need a display for them all!
Exclusive Owl T-Shirt - Listed Value $13.27
These tees are always super-soft, and I love the pattern this month! I’m sure this snowy owl must be Hedwig, and it’s really nicely screen-printed. The little touch of blue is a nice addition to the white print and the charcoal color of the shirt is a nice change from past black shirts.
Verdict: I was a little sad that there wasn’t a strong theme this month, but I liked a lot of the items! I really enjoyed the scarf, and the wand this month is definitely my new favorite. I think it will look so good on a display stand in my Potterverse-themed room. I thought the lanyard would definitely be useful for people, even though it’s not necessarily my thing, and I can’t wait to wear the t-shirt!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the July box. Monthly boxes ship between 21st and 24th each month.
Value Breakdown: This box cost me $28.27 + $8.47 US shipping cost, which means that each of the 6 items (not counting the recipe cards) in the box has an average cost of $6.12.
