Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full-size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!

This is one of my top recommendations if you are looking for a beauty box - the value and sample sizes are amazing. (Check out my list of the Top Beauty Boxes for 2018 and our reviews of Cheap Subscription Boxes for more recommendations!)

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products. (Plus a makeup bag!)

Ships to: US and Canada

Delivered via: USPS

Check out all of my Ipsy reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box List!

Visit the Ipsy Swap Page to swap for any of the items you see in this review!

Each month, ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.

Subscribers will either receive yellow, red, or blue

I love the heart zipper pull detail, too.

Now, on to the items!

M·A·C Little Lipglass in C-Thru - Retail Value $10

This mini lipgloss has a sweet (think cupcake) flavor, sheer beige pigment, barely-there shimmer, and high-gloss.

The formula is a tad sticky, but it didn't bother me. This beige color does not work on my natural lip color, but it's a great topper for toning down a bold liquid lipstick.

(Swatched in lower photo.)

BEAUTY FOR REAL I-Line 24-7 Eyeliner in Whiskey - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $14

This eyeliner is pretty much perfect. It glides on easily, sets quickly and becomes smudge-proof, and the bronze color has excellent pigment and shimmer. (And bonus points for not being another black eyeliner!)

(Swatched in lower photo.)

NOMAD COSMETICS Illuminating Highlighter in Midnight Sun - 1.5 g Value $2.55

At first, I thought this was a full-size eyeshadow pan, but it's a lil' baby highlighter!

This is a great highlighter for all. You can do a few sweeps with a brush and get a barely there glow, or layer it and really build the highlight. The shimmer is super fine, so this looks lovely for everyday looks. It's easy to blend out, too.

Here it is swatched beneath the lip gloss and above the lip liner:

DR LILI FAN PROBIOTIC SKINCARE Probiotic Eye Repair Cream - 8 ml Value $10?

(FYI - I can't find the size of the full-size version, so I'm guessing on the value.)

This eye cream is designed to help eliminate puffiness and fight signs of aging. I was impressed with how decadent it felt on my skin, and yet it still absorbed quickly!

FORMULA 10.0.6 Three Times Sublime - 1 oz Value $2.06

This formula works as both a mask and a scrub. I tried it as a scrub, liked it (it wasn't too harsh), but then realized I'm allergic to one of the ingredients! (Red 40 lake dye.) This is one of my personal pet peeves that probably doesn't apply to most people, but I wish companies didn't add artificial dyes to things that don't need color like cosmetics. Oh well!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $38.61. I think that's a good value. This isn't one of my favorite Ipsy bags, but it's still definitely worth $10 to me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you'll get next month's box as your first box. (Check out our Ipsy Spoilers to see what's coming up next)

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

I was so disappointed with my Ipsy bags the past two months. Last month I had a brow product that was broken as soon as I took the cap off it fell in pieces on the floor. Plus the rest of the products had barely any product in them. This month I was hoping I would at least get a brush. But the one that came was not Luxie. I couldn’t believe my eyes, I got a huge yellow brush reminded me of those huge rubber pencils. I could barely hold it between my fingers. I got the ugly nail polish, the huge brush, red bag, a cake like lotion, a leave in conditioner and (the only thing I like) a tiny sample of Benefit porefessional and a I could barely hold it in between my fingers. Did anyone else get the yellow brush? I plan on switching to Boxycharm.

I received my glam bag and loved all my products but my glam bag had been sliced but I emailed Ipsy and 2 days later had a new one. I got a great lotion. Hair product. Lipstick. Brush. Eyeshadow that I love and blush.

I got the yellow bag, was really happy since I hate red. As for the products, I got the navy eyeliner, the pacifica palette, the BareMinerals serum, the peach nail polish, and ANOTHER nudey pink lipstick.

The only thing I really hate is the lipstick because I specifically took neutrals off my profile to avoid getting things like this. The palette doesn’t work well with my eye color, but a couple colors are cute. The nail polish, I at first hated the fact it was so neon (not at all a peachy color like it looks online) but now I love it. As for the eyeliner, I like the color but it drags on my eyelids a lot. Maybe it didn’t want to work with the Pacifia eyeshadow but I’m still gonna try and make it work. Still trying to feel how I feel about the serum, I was breaking out at first but now that it’s recovering my skin looks great.

Really excited for July and future months, this was one of my best bags ever! Happy to say I’ve been with ipsy for close to a year now, and I can’t wait to see how it goes.

I received the blue bag, same eyeliner in Whiskey, the Sea Green Steve Laurent eye shadow, Firma blush brush, Bare Minerals serum, and Raeka Tumeric Orange mask. I really like my bag this month, the mask didn’t really work as well as I hoped though. I was hoping for the Apple Green eye shadow, but think I’ll get more use from the Sea Green. The blush brush is so soft and nice. I’ve been using it with my Tarte powder from last month and it applies the perfect amount.

Ugh… I got the yellow bag I really wanted the red or blue.

Oh well at least I got the Beauty for Real eyeliner in the navy shade instead of the brown one & the medium shade of the Kokie concealer. Love the Belif eye bomb it’s a fave & the City Color Skinny Latte is lovely & a huge pan. Never tried the Bare Minerals Skinlongevity but I love serums.

3 makeup items, 2 skincare; overall a good month

I’m with you on the artificial dyes thing. Absolutely no reason to use it if you don’t need it.

Glad I’m not the only one who feels this way! 🙂

I got the Pure Brazilian Leave-In conditioner, the MAC Lip Glass in C-Thru, a brush from MintPear that is awesome, KVOSSNYC Lip Macaroon (a super emollient lightly sweet smelling lip balm!), and Jontebleu eyeliner. I LOVE getting brushes and leave in conditioners (I have super long hair and am not picky about leave in conditioners but use a lot of them so am always happy to get them in Ipsy!). The lip balm is surprisingly great and I love that it doesn’t have mineral oil, petroleum, or petroleatum. The lip glass from MAC isn’t my favorite but I do like nude lipglosses in general. The only thing I don’t love is the eyeliner and that is because I’ve been using KVD Tattoo Liner in trooper for years and love that, and nothing else compares to it! I actually didn’t even open the liner, seeing in the photos that it is felt tipped and not brush tipped, so I will give it to a friend! I really like IPSY. I get lots of brushes and discover new brands which is awesome. I’ve also gotten Play, Birchbox Allure, and Macy’s but have had IPSY the longest and genuinely enjoy the number of full size products, the bags, and getting to try new brands. They are also a great mix of skincare, nail polish, body care, and hair care which i LOVE!

I got the yellow bag, meh. Would’ve preferred red or blue but not a big deal to me. What is a big deal is that my nail polish bottle broke in transit somehow (it was packed tightly between soft items, and the neck of the bottle was perfectly separated from the rest of the bottle. Did it get too hot??) and everything in my bag smells like toxic chemicals. The Ferdinand lipstick sample wasn’t connected to the base at all so as soon as I opened it, it fell right out. I emailed Ipsy Care about both items but after seeing them both (and swatching the lipstick), I honestly don’t really even want them replaced. The nail polish was a horrendous highlighter yellow color and looked really streaky. Not a fan of the Macaroon lip balm because you have to dip your finger in it, and the other two items were a brush (boo) and a skin care product (don’t want em).

Overall, first bag I’m really kinda mad about. Only redeeming factor is I redeemed points for a lip balm and a lip oil, both of which were spared from the nail polish disaster because they were outside of the bag. All in all, not enough to make me want to cancel, just doesn’t feel like my $10 was well-spent this month.

I am pretty happy with my bag this month. I got the blue bag with the following:

Firma Beauty 102 Elite Blush Brush – I am always happy to get brushes and this one is nice.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – Smells really good

Hanalei Lip Treatment in Mauve Pink -LOVE! My favorite item in the bag!

MAC Little Lipgloss in Nymphette – It’s really shiny and needs to go over a lip color, I can’t wear this on it’s own, not sure if I’ll ever use this actually but who knows, will throw in with the rest of my growing stash of subscription box products.

Benefit Cosmetics POREfessional Primer – I just got full size primers from Boxycharm and Beautyfix in May so I am good with primer but I am happy to receive this. I use primer and this will be nice to throw in my makeup bag and will eventually get used, plus I like this particular primer although the sample they sent me is super tiny.

I got the Blue bag, Kokie concealer in medium beige, KVoss lip all which are up for swap. I also got a lipstick I can use and a brush. Overall not a bad month and not a good month.

Two Barbie-sized samples, a nude lipstick that makes me look like a corpse, peach nail polish (wanted the raspberry), and a perfume that is just okay. Was on the fence with Ipsy anyway, so I canceled. I guess you can’t expect much for $10. Shopping for a better beauty box.

I am dropping IPSY after being with them for 3 + years…I have become…uninterested in what they have been offering since it seems that only a few people get the “prime” items and the rest get the “common” items…such as nail polish, generic scrub…generic lotion…face mask etc…I am sticking with Fab Fit Fun and Boxy Charm…

Anie

Nice bag! FYI if anyone is interested I had a free bag for a friend option sent to me, but not enough friends interested in makeup, so I thought Ill share with someone here. If anyone wants one, just lemme know. Its for first time subscribers only. Ill just need your email to send it to you.

I’m very interested if you still have it.

I just signed up with ipsy today and I have been put on a wait list. I would be interested in seeing what they have to offer if you still have the bag.

That whiskey eyeliner is awesome! I got the Finding Ferdinand (unusual name) lipstick in rose gold and it is lovely. They make a great combo when rounded out with a smoky eye.

I just got a free bag from my fd a few days before. It shows my next billing will be charged on 1 Aug, it is means that I will get July’s bag but not June’s? Can I cancel the subscription after my first bag being shipped in order not to charged any amount?

Reply ButtonReply

lisa

You are getting July bag and need to cancel by July 30th I believe. So yes you can cancel after you get July bag and you will not be charged for August.

Am I the only one who has not gotten their bag yet? Mine shipped last week still showing it won’t arrive until next week. I like all three bags I’ll be happy with any of the colors. Not my favorite contents his time I really wanted the Pacifica shadows, but I’ll at least try everything. Excited to try the Bare Minerals serum.

Reply ButtonReply

Ann Henry

I got mine today. June 15th

Reply ButtonReply

Joyce

I have gotten Pacifica shadows a two different time and I don’t think they r very pigmented. I gave them away. I have a medium skin tone and hooded lids and I couldn’t get them to look very strong on my eyes. I can find a lot cheaper at dollar stores and Walmart that cost a lot less and have a lot more pigment. I don’t think ur missinniut.

Reply ButtonReply

Anita

Mine’s not here yet either, supposed to arrive on the 21st which is way later than usual. It’s typically here by the 15th. Not sure what the delay is.

Hoping for the red or blue bag

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Still waiting on mine too. It shipped quite a bit later than normal. Mine’s shown as being an hour away tranfering to USPS for 5 days now. Beginning to worry it’s gotten loss as USPS has no record of the item and DHL claims it was transferred 5 days ago.

TheOtherJulia

I’m pretty happy with my Ipsy bags this month. In one I’m getting the:
1. Pacifica palette
2. Caudalie Vinosource moisturizing sorbet
3. Mac prep and prime skin
4. Hey Honey Come Clean propolis and minerals facial scrub
5. Finding Ferdinand lipstick

Bag #2
1. Peripera tint water in cherry juice
2. Pure Brazilian leave in conditioner
3. Nomad cosmetics highlighter in midnight sun
4. Belif Cosmetics moisturizing eye bomb
5. Makeup forever step 1 skin equalizer hydrating primer.
So all in all, a pretty good month for me.

I got a red bag, and wanted blue or yellow considering those are my favorite colors…would have loved to have gotten that whisky eyeliner, it looks really nice. Loved all my stuff except the pretty woman nail polish in off white…which is a first..will be adding to my Ebay pile

I got the blue bag and really want red. If you want to swap let me know. I’m on the MSA swap site!

I wanted red but got blue! Are you on the swap site?

I loved my bag this month! I got the pretty blue bag and so did my daughter I got the navy eyeliner, a luxe brush and the Hanalei lip balm. Love it! Ipsy was great this month for me!

I just sign up a free bag from my bag a few days before. I saw it shows my next billing will be charged on 1 Aug, it is mean that I will receive July’s bag, but not June’s one? Can I cancel my subscription after my first bag being ship in order not to charge any amount?

Gasp, bag twins!! (except for my bag being blue and my MAC lip being Nymphette, which I’m so happy I got!) I’ve never had a bag twin before that I knew of.

My second bag:
1. Jonteblu eyeliner (black. meh.)
2. Hanalei lip treatment (LOVE)
3. Make Up For Ever primer
4. Estate lip icing (LOVE)
5. Raeka Turmeric Orange peel off mask
Value about $47

In both bags, I got treatments for oily skin. My skin is dry, dry, dry everywhere, including my T-zone. Both my profiles reflect this. The only thing I can think of is that one of my profiles I checked large pores. I’m going to uncheck it and see what happens.

I am so happy with the three lip products I got, and glad I got eye cream and highlighter, and VERY glad that I got ten different items. There are soooo many products this month that I want to try. Hurray for swapping!

Reply ButtonReply

TheOtherJulia

I had to do the same thing with Sephora play. I kept getting products for oily skin and I unchecked the large pores box, and I started getting more things geared towards drier skin. Apparently you cannot have large pores and drier skin at the same time (according to them). So hopefully it works for you with Ipsy as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I think there is something wrong with Ipsy’s algorithm, the past 3 bags, I have gotten skincare for oily skin and in my profile, I have dry/aging… I plan on email them about it – hopefully they will fix it!

Reply ButtonReply

jenn

I think this is the first time i wasn’t jealous of your bag. lol I got the blue bag and mostly items items I didn’t like – but was at least glad Icdodnt get the yellow bag. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Jb

I got a blue bag and when you pointed out the heart pull, I had to check to see if mine has it too. Yup it does!

I’ve gotten a probiotic cream from Dr. Fan before and liked it, but the sample was sooo tiny.

Reply ButtonReply

Laura

I got the blue bag and it was more skin care then makeup and I have very little marked for skin care. Really would like more makeup

Reply ButtonReply

Renee

I got make-up with zero skincare, and I want skin and hair products, with little make-up. Go figure.

Reply ButtonReply

sara

I got the yellow striped bag too! It’s sunny and cheery. I also saw the heart on the zipper and loved the cute detail!

Some bags aren’t perfect, but for $10, it’s always got the value!

Once concern, I got the Hanalei lip treatment, and it had numbers inscribed on the crimped bottom edge that read: 01 07 18B. I sure hope that’s not an expiration date! Yikes!

Reply ButtonReply

Emma

It’s probably a manufacturing date rather than an expiration date, but I’m sure you could email them (Hanalei, not ipsy) and ask.

Reply ButtonReply

Melissa

I have a Hanalei lip treatment that I got from Ipsy many months ago – mine has 0106517 crimped at the bottom. There is no way my numbers can be arranged into a date, though, so I think it’s a batch number. If it Were a date, it would have expired in 2017, but it hasn’t changed in texture, taste, smell, or consistency in all the time I’ve been using it. Side note – it lasts a while!!
