Kawaii Box May 2018 Review
Like last month, I see they made changes to the actual box itself, and I love it! It’s sturdier than the old version, so it arrives at the States in much better shape now. This box always includes a little booklet detailing the items and also reveals the theme for the month. This booklet is designed differently than month’s past - it looks really nice! This month’s box theme is “Happy Birthday Kawaii Box,” and they introduced their new mascot, “Aiko”!
Fluffy Flamingo Ink Pen
The pens in this box just keep getting better and better, I swear! Last month I also received a flamingo pen, but this one is next-level! The poof on the end of this cap is so, so soft - I bet it’s going to be an amazing bit of stress relief when I’m sitting at my desk. As always, this pen is black ink, so no matter how extra the pen itself is, I can use to write a very grown-up document, and no one will be any the wiser.
Blippo Geeky Animals Hairclips
I may or may not have squealed a little at the site of these sweet, tiny little hair clips! I received a group of sweet bunnies in huuuge glasses. They make me so happy, I may have to see if they can also serve a stationery-type function. There have to be some papers around here somewhere just begging to be clipped by these!
Korean DIY Cross Stitch Kit
This box has recently sent more items of the DIY persuasion, and this one just tickled me. My mom is great at cross-stitch and she’s promised to teach me this year, so I’m happy to have something to practice with! This kit was a little tricky to use because the needle it included had a really small eye - it was VERY hard to thread! Because the directions were in Japanese, I wasn’t sure how many plies the stitches called for; mom tells me that different stitches require all different ply, and I wasn’t able to determine how many to use. I had to grab a new needle from my sewing kit to even try and attempt it, and even still - I ended up trying out a different thread just so I could see how this all would come together. I tend to like the snarky and ironic cross stitch patterns, but I’d love to finish this sweet one and use it as an ornament at Christmastime.
Popcan Disney Characters Lollipop
Kawaii can always be counted on for at least one candy item, but this month, there’s two! This lollipop was actually really different - they were all pop-themed, and I believe I received the strawberry-peach variety. It actually tasted like soda - and fruit!
Morinaga Strawberry Chocoball
Strawberry is one of my favorite pairings for chocolate treats, and these were so fun! The white chocolate and rice puff center was a pleasing texture, and the strawberry-chocolate coating tasted really good.
Japanese Traditions Stickers Sheet
I now have quite the collection of stickers in my home, and there seems to be no end to how cute they can be! These dog stickers have the cutest little faces, and there are lots of little decorations in between each pup. The shining gold accents make these so fancy!
Neko Onsen Mini Notebook
The little kitties on the cover of this notebook know how to live! Just chilling in a Japanese onsen bath, these cool cats make for an awesome tiny notebook. There’s decoration on the pages and there’s also a breakdown of the days of the week as well as tiny icons to put in the weather forecast! Squee!
Doughnut Squishy
I look forward to the squishies in these boxes more than anything, and this is so different from other ones I’ve received! It’s somehow both a tiger and a donut, and it’s really soft, almost pillow-like!
Blippo Sweet Doughnuts Purse
Two doughnut-themed items? Yes, please! I love the colors in this change purse; I received the dark blue with pink-frosted beauties. These little purses are so useful for small items; this would be great to grab when I’m running out the door to run some errands; this would be perfect for my library card, driver’s license, and a couple of quarters for parking!
My Melody Sticky Note Pad
I put sticky notes on everything! Since I’m kind of a right-brained person, I can be a little forgetful, and sometimes reminders on my phone don’t always cut it. There are times when I wish I was more meticulous, but I’ve since learned to hack my brain and write things down, and it helps me out.
Verdict: I was so excited about this month’s box! This box really did feel celebratory in line with the Happy Birthday theme; I was thrilled to receive what felt like a really large number of items. I was squealing over the cuteness of the notebooks, stickers, and pens; the change purse will definitely be useful, and as always, I loved the candy and this month’s squishy!
