Kira Kira Crate May 2018 Review
This Kira Kira Crate had a new, super-pretty pattern on the box! I loved this extra touch. This box always comes with a booklet that describes all the items and how to use them, which is great because the majority of the packaging is written in Japanese! They also feature customer photos that use the hashtag #kirakiracrate to share on social media and include a great how-to on how to use the items in the box. This month’s theme is Soothing Night In - sign me up!
Hot Eye Mask
My favorite kinds of masks are the ones that look hilarious when you put them on, and this one cracks me up! I really like that this is a three-pack: sometimes when I find an item in this sub that I love, I want to use it more than once, and this lets me do just that. I also think that adds a lot of value to this box. To use these little guys (they’re supposed to be polar bears), you just put the straps of this mask over your ears and it starts to get warm. The lavender smells great and it makes for a really soothing experiencing.
Black and Shiny Eyeliner
I’ve been really impressed with how the beauty products are curated in this box; they’re really thoughtful and they’re not products that I would go out and buy on my own. This month I received this black eyeliner that boasts glitter inside. It’s so pretty! The photos captured a good bit of the glam, but it’s even sparklier in person. The application was smooth and went on easily. I would definitely wear this for a special night out to a play or concert!
Moasis Oil Milk
I didn’t know what to expect from a product that called itself “oil milk,” but I after applying it, it definitely made sense! This product is made with cactus oil, and while I could feel the oil in it, the milky aspect of this plays a part too, making this really rich and emollient. It didn’t leave any residue on my hands and it absorbed into the skin of my legs almost immediately. It also smells awesome; lightly floral and super-fresh.
Honey Lemon Bath Tablets
I love seeing all the different kinds of “potions” that are available to enhance the bathing experience! I love bath bombs and bubble bath, and sometimes this box offers the best-ever products to make a bath even better. This powdery mix of fine grains and larger tablets was fizzy, fragrant, and really fun. I liked the light citrus scent, and while I didn’t feel any changes in my skin after using it, it didn’t leave behind any greasiness or stickiness, either.
Paper Soap
I have been kind of obsessed lately with the trend of hand soaps arriving in this box, and this one is absolutely one of the most clever. I knew as soon as I opened my crate that I received the rose variety of this product; the scent permeated its packaging but at the same time it wasn’t unpleasantly overwhelming. These soap papers were actually popular when my mom was young; she said she carried a package of hers around everywhere in the fifth grade. I’m tempted to do the same! These would be so useful in all kinds of situations; on a camping trip, at the park, at a food or alcohol festival - these might be the most awesomely practical item Kira Kira Crate has ever sent me!
Pure Smile Chamomile Mask
We finish up this relaxing night in with a classic sheet mask! Let me tell you the tale of a (very smart, hilarious) woman who was moving out of her apartment into her first house. For a week she worked eight hours a day, then packed and cleaned her apartment for four more hours in the sweltering heat. On the last night, she popped this chamomile mask in the fridge for a few minutes, intending to wear it for the suggested 15-20 minute time period. Not surprisingly, she fell asleep immediately while wearing it, waking abruptly at 3:00 am when she wondered what in the everloving enchanted forest was eating her face. I can, ahem, I mean, she mentioned to me that this mask smelled amazing, like her favorite tea, and that her skin appeared calmer and less red after wearing.
Verdict: Kira Kira Crate always delivers as far as I’m concerned! The variety in this box was great, as always, and I think I’m going to use the remaining products up until they’re gone! I loved the multiple eye masks in the package and the sheets of soap; being able to use single-serve things more than once really adds to the value of this box for me. I loved the oil milk and I’ve gotta find somewhere fun to go so that I can wear that sparkly eyeliner!
