Margot Elena Subscription Box – Summer 2018 Review

Liz Cadman
ByLiz CadmanDec 8, 2022 | 77 comments

The Seasonal Subscription box from Margot Elena is a quarterly subscription box featuring full-size beauty and lifestyle items. (If you aren't familiar with this brand, it's carried in stores like Anthropologie.)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

On the inside of the box is a letter from Margot Elena:

In general, the packaging is fab, and this would be a great box to send as a gift!

The Subscription Box: Margot Elena Subscription Box

The Cost: $49.99 per quarter

The Products: Discover the world of All Things Beautiful with the Margot Elena Subscription Box filled with over $200 worth of full-sized products curated by our team

Good to know:

Ships to: US

This box comes with a card detailing all the items included:

Now, on to the items!

Margot Elena Infinite Beauty Nail Color in Love is All – Retail Value $15

(Just a heads up, the packaging on all the products in this box is so lovely - expect more pictures than usual!)

This nail polish formula is 7-free, and I got full coverage in one coat!

It's a high-gloss creme, and I was impressed with how quickly it dried. (I'd still recommend doing 2 coats + a top coat to avoid chipping, though.)

TokyoMilk Dead Sexy Bon Bon Shea Butter Lotion – Retail Value $20

This lotion is fragrant, absorbs quickly, and provides moisture without any greasy finish.

One one side the lotion is all business, and on the other side, the "Dead Sexy" part is in full force:

The lotion has notes of Deep Vanilla, Exotic Wood, White Orchid, and Ebony. It's a lovely scent, and a little goes a long way!

The Cottage Greenhouse Cucumber & Honey Relaxing Bath Soak – Retail Value $12

More adorable packaging! I love the wooden spoon and cork top!

The cucumber + honey scent is light and lovely, too.

The Cottage Greenhouse Dry Body Oil – Retail Value $24

OMG! This is probably my favorite scent in the box. I don't come across a lot of ginger-scented beauty items, but I wish I did because this is divine!

The scent isn't too strong, the oil is light and absorbs quickly - all in all, this is a perfect summer body oil.

TokyoMilk Dark Pretty Rotten Lip Elixir – Retail Value $7

Green tea + jasmine = another fabulous scent!

This lip balm is moisturizing without adding too much shine. (If you aren't a fan of lip balms in tins, this could double as a cuticle balm.)

Margot Elena Rhassoul Clay Face Masque – Retail Value $12

How gorgeous is this mask packaging?

The mask is a powder that you mix with water, and it comes in a resealable pouch:

It's 100% natural, and there are many uses in this pouch. Just add water to make a paste, apply to your skin, and remove once it dries. Easy!

(And the instructions are on the inside of the package, too.)

This was gentle on my skin, and easy to use - I'm happy!

The Cottage Greenhouse Rosemary Mint Foot Cream – Retail Value $28

I realize I keep saying this, but this is another amazing scent! The peppermint scent is so refreshing!

This is a decadent cream - it's super hydrating and takes a while to absorb. (This would probably be great to wear with socks overnight.)

Lollia Poetic License Fine Perfumed Soap in Sleeping Under the Stars – Retail Value $8

Next up, we have three fancy soaps from the Lollia line!

This first soap is a blend of sandalwood and honeyed vanilla.

Lollia Poetic License Fine Perfumed Soap in Velvet as Night – Retail Value $8

This scent is a blend of rose milk and frankincense.

Lollia Poetic License Fine Perfumed Soap in Score from the End Credits – Retail Value $8

And the last soap is described as a "fresh, twilight musk." It's probably my favorite out of the three!

The Cottage Greenhouse Rosemary Mint Foot Scrub – Retail Value $26

This pairs perfectly with the foot cream - it's the same lovely refreshing peppermint! And the scrub is equal parts exfoliating + moisturizing. A+!

Margot Elena Honeycomb Striped Turkish Towel – Retail Value $44

If you've read enough of my subscription box reviews, you know I can never have enough Turkish towels! (They are great for beach/pool towels, or even throwing on the arm of a couch for a little nautical decor.) This is another great one to add to the collection! (It's 100% cotton and machine wash cold.)

It's a good size, too. Here I am holding it up to give you a better sense of scale:

Neptune & The Mermaid Gold Foil Print Postcard Set – Retail Value $8

Lastly, this box included 3 postcards!

Each of these postcards features gold foil detail, and I think would be lovely framed!

Verdict: I am SO impressed with this box! A $220 value for $49.99? With high-quality and beautiful products? Yes, please! All day, every day! I can't recommend this one enough. It's a perfect gift for yourself, and I love that everything is full size!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. As of today (6/22), your first box would be the Fall Box. (I recommend signing up soon as this box keeps selling out.)

Coupon – no coupons available for this subscription.

What do you think of the Margot Elena Subscription Box?

This box looks amazing!!does anyone have another 30% off the annual sub code? I tried the ‘302018‘ which was working over the weekend but is no longer valid 🙁

It was such a great deal!

I’m also looking for a working 30% off code for the annual sub!

Jessi

This box needed the Neptune & the Mermaid lip balm…

T.Marie

I took the plunge w that code, thank you!.. How I wish I could cancel my annual PSMH. I’ve found much better boxes I sub too now that for what I believe in and for my lifestyle and although I know I’ll like a couple things, I know I won’t like a couple more…

Did anyone have another 30% off code for the annual sub? The ‘302018’ code stopped working this week….

Were you charges for shipping? I noticed Liz shows the price of 49.99 per quarter, but no shipping costs. When I went to check out I’m being charged 27.80 for shipping, for annual.

Reply ButtonReply

Becca S

Yes, there are additional shipping costs, unfortunately.

Sav

Would you recommend this sub for someone with allergies? I can’t really tolerate overly floral scents, so I’m curious.

Also, those who do sub, do you find the products to be repetitive? It looks like some of the same type of items have been in every box.

I was thinking of getting the annual if the discount is still available, but am hoping to hear some opinions first.

Lovetheater

I don’t recommend this box for you. The scents are heavy and very perfume-y. I think it would trigger allergies.

Debi

Sav, I love this box….. I notice that the scents are light. This was # 2 box for me. I don’t have allergies. The only item that was just a little strong for me was the Gin and Rosewater, from spring box. Have you looked on their site, they have some lotion small size. Maybe order and see if you can handle the scents. My fav in this box was the foot scrub and foot lotion ( Strong peppermint smell ), and dry oil ( lite smell ). the dead sexy had a lite smell. The soaps smell really good, maybe try one of those. If you get on their site and call them the girls there maybe can tell you what scents are really strong. Hate to see you miss out on a great box. Great for gifts also.

This was my first box, and I decided to upgrade to an annual subscription. The whole experience of waiting for it, receiving it, and opening it feels so special compared to other subscription boxes. I think it’s because of the beautiful, original packaging–the poem on the box, all of the full size products, and everything smells so amazing! It really feels like thought and care was put into it. Also, the whole box feels artistic and even poetic–I can’t say that about any of the other boxes I receive! This one is really my favorite! I hope they are able to keep up this level of attention to detail and creativity in each box!

I just upgraded to annual as well……. my first EVER annual subscription…. this box would be very hard to resist for all the reasons you just said……… 🙂

ME TOO JUDY!! Me too!!! 🙃🙃😌

I wish more boxes provided this kind of experience! I also subscribe to Birchbox and Sephora Play, but after receiving Margot Elena’s box, I realize how Birchbox and Play make me feel like I’m being marketed to. The Margot Elena box feels like they care more about the feeling you get from opening it than for how many products you will later buy.

Laura

I love this box! I ordered the year sub when this first came out and the value is always awesome and every beauty product I’ve tried is gentle on my skin. The lotion is lovely but the scent is very strong so that is the only product that those with allergies or sensitivities may want to avoid. When you first apply it has a more feminine scent but as it dries it is more unisex, I actually think it smells like mens cologne, and you really get the wood/cedar sort of scent. My favorites are the foot scrub and creme set. They were so smart to actually include both items since sometimes boxes send out partial sets. I tried both in the evening and the next morning my feet were so soft and the creme has a lot of staying power. The body oil does absorb really well into skin, not greasy at all and the scent is light and not overwhelming. I love that they included different nail colors, Im going to have to swap for them all! The only thing I would tell them is not to send lip balm in a container like that, I prefer a stick, and I also would like it to be tinted not plain. But thats it, great box!

For people who want to add an annual subscription, the discount code still works. It’s 302018. It takes 30% off, then they add shipping so it’s just a little over $150 for the year. You can direct them to ship a box to someone else if you want to gift an entire box.

Reply ButtonReply

Judy

Thanx for sharing the code Barb!!

Reply ButtonReply

Jodi

Barb! Thank you so much! While I have missed out on the summer box I am now signed up for a full year for $153.00. That is over an $800.00 value. I’m more of an autumn girl anyway and now I really can’t wait because it means my first box will be arriving 🙂 Ladies, it is now nearing the end of July and yes, that code (302018) still works. It will work if you only want to order one box also but you will get the September box. The Summer box is sold out.

Reply ButtonReply

Rachel

Thank you so much for the code! I was so excited that it still worked as I just discovered the box today and came here to look for a review and comments, wanted the annual sub but…but…then saw this and bam! I now have an annual sub! So excited about this one. Thank you very much!

Reply ButtonReply

Cary

I took the plunge. I have never purchased an annual subscription, but the reviews, products, and customer reaction allowed me to jump on this discount. Thank you for sharing it!

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

I bought the annual sub using the discount code yesterday after receiving this box. $150 for 4 boxes of this quality and value is too good for me to pass up.

These sell out fast–smaller company and limited inventory–and are only getting more popular. ME won’t need to offer 30% codes to get customers much longer.

And wasn’t BF a candle with annual sub last year? I’ll lock in now and take the 30%. I don’t want to chance it 😉

The towel is showing up as a royal blue to me….is that correct, anyone? I know photos sometimes don’t give an accurate color. I love blue…not royal blue.

Reply ButtonReply

Mandy

I’d definitely call it a chambray toned blue, not royal or bright blue in any way. It coordinates perfectly with the PS box towel by Ocean Tribe ( not sure which box it was in but it’s the one with no stripes and an all-over Aztec type design- solid blue with the white design). You can search in the search box for ” Ocean Tribe” and the towel should come up in a search here.

Also, the towel is a mixture of checks and stripes, as shown in a closeup photo above, but the checks are the same lighter blue, near a chambray or just light denim blue color. The stripes show the true color just a bit better. There are white threads throughout the weave which keep it light and crisp- looking. I hope this helps. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

DonnaG

Thank you so much, Mandy! I have that Ocean Tribe towel, and I’ve been kicking myself for not subscribing to the box (didn’t know it was going to sell out so fast). I am seriously going to try to swap for that towel now that you’ve given me a much better description. Thanks so much!

Sara

Oh, I can take that off your hands for you.. 😃

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

I love this box enough that if there is a BF special I will consider getting a second subscription even though this is the first box of my yearly subscription.

Reply ButtonReply

Adeline

Ok. I’m a dummy but how do i remove the cork lid from the bath salt?

Reply ButtonReply

Barb

Lift the green end of the tape, remove the little spoon so it isn’t in your way and pop the cork out with your thumb, taking care not to spill it if it opens suddenly. Just push a little harder than you are.

Reply ButtonReply

Abby

This is such a girly/ women box – it caters to those who enjoys moments of luxury, relaxation and pampering.
Im very happy wirh my box!

Reply ButtonReply

Sandi

I have the entire box up for swap in the MSA Swap section. I got caught up in the excitement after the Spring Box reveal and forgot that I have already too many bath and body products to use up. It’s really as beautiful as the pictures but I just don’t need it. Send me a request if interested 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer Munson

I will take it if still available 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

T.Marie

I’m sure I sent you a request!!

Thanks for doing this review!

I regret not getting the last two boxes, however I do love this box and have already signed up for fall.

The presentation, the quality, the scents, etc. Everything is fabulous!

I am SO SUBSCRIBING to this box!!! These are ALL things I’d use and enjoy. I just canceled FFF and Sugarbash. I have a TON of jewelry, candles, make up, face masks, etc. that I’m not gonna use. Thanks for the review. I’m so excited.

sher_w

Thank you so much for doing a great review, Liz! It’s really helpful to get your feedback on a lovely sub (and now i am doubly happy I got a year’s sub).

Mary Weber

Still have not received nor have I gotten an email. Anybody else?

HeatherG

Don’t worry to much, I got a confirmation email when I went annual but nothing more…walk outside today and my box was here!! I’m sure you’ll get your box in the next few days

ME

They had me hooked since the first box and this is the best subscription box out there (IMO). The curation is always well thought out, the scents are amazing and the value is out of the park. While I may not use every single item, they are great little gifts to your family/friends. I converted to an annual box and look forward to the Fall box.

This is hands down going to become one box I never cancel! I am IN LOVE with everything I got, and I mean EVERYTHING!! I got a really pretty periwinkle nail color which is going with me next week to the salon for a much needed pedicure and manicure treatment!! I love how even opening the box you have a bunch of divine smells coming at you! I am disappointed with myself that it took me this long to get on the ball. LOVE IT!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

The Lollia Poetic License soaps (and handcream and perfume) are on sale at Anthropologie’s site for $4, $10 and $30 if you like the scents!

Reply ButtonReply

Kellly

This is my first box, and I’m impressed! I loved opening everything, and there are so many items inside. I can’t believe I got this with the 30% off coupon for $38 total per box. It’s a nice selection of different items. I got the same pretty pink nail polish shown above. Love the addition of the towel, as well.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

This is a nice box! I am keeping most of it. I am only swapping away a couple of the soaps. I also recieved the dark blue nail polish and would love to trade for the pink/red color if anyone is interested.

Reply ButtonReply

Janelle

Sold! That value is killer and any unwanted items would make great gifts. Can’t wait till September!

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

How many of the items are vegan and/or cruelty-free? I’d love for that to be mentioned in future reviews 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Lovetheater

A lot of the items in the box have honey or beeswax.

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

Their packaging all says cruelty-free, but I’m not sure about vegan.

Reply ButtonReply

LizC

Really love this box. The box itself is a joy to open. I hope they do this box forever! What I don’t use I give as gifts and everyone is happy! My sisters and friends are very grateful for my cast offs, and I even received the color nail polish I wished for. ME is the best box out there. I am glad it is a quarterly though, I am overloaded with product. Please don’t change a thing ME.

Reply ButtonReply

Cyndi

I wish this was my first box – I love everything in it. The Tokyo Milk Dead Sexy fragrance is my current favorite scent. I’m looking forward to getting the Fall box. Thanks for the detailed review, Liz!

Reply ButtonReply

Marilyn

Me too! I decided to hold off til Fall or possibly the Black Friday sale because so often the summer scents are too floral for me. Really regret not jumping in sooner.
