Mickey Monthly Theme Park Edition May 2018 Review

Walt Disney World Beach Towel

Walt Disney World Beach Towel - Retail Value $26.99

I thought it was great that we received a beach towel in our box this month. This towel is huge too at 34”wide and 63.5” long. To give you some perspective, I am 5’7” and if I hold this up it reaches my forehead. It was pretty difficult to get the whole thing in a picture, but as you can see, it has a nice, colorful picture of Walt Disney World and all four of its parks. You can see the castle, Epcot center and some nice bursting fireworks in the sky. It’s a pretty unique design for a towel instead of just featuring the usual Disney characters. It has a Disney Parks tag attached to it, but I was able to find it for sale online through Shop Disney.

Disney Main Street Popcorn Kettle Corn 3 oz. bag - Retail Value $5.99

I love kettle corn, so I was pleased to see this inside our box this month. The bag is a decent size, although 3 oz doesn’t sound like a lot, it was the perfect size to share with the family. The kettle corn was good, not overly sweet, but it definitely wasn’t the best I’ve had. It was actually a little bit on the stale side, unfortunately, even though the sell-by date wasn’t until August. It wasn’t stale enough that we couldn’t eat it, but it wasn’t as enjoyable as fresh kettle corn.

Goofy’s Candy Co. Sour Cherry Balls 7 oz bag

Goofy’s Candy Co. Sour Cherry Balls 7 oz bag - Estimated Value $5.79 (Based on a site that shops for authentic merchandise from parks and ships it to you).

This was a nice family sized treat and I liked that the bag was resealable so that we can keep it fresh. These were basically like large, cherry jelly beans. They aren’t extremely sour, but just had a little bit of tartness to them. They were actually pretty tasty, and a bit addictive! Everyone in the family enjoyed these.

Disney Parks Epcot Journey Into Imagination Figment Dragon Purple Journal - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $16.97)

The last item in our box was this nice, purple journal. The front features a dragon that I recognized, but couldn’t quite place. It turned out to be Figment who is the mascot of Epcot center. I have not been to Disney World since I was a kid, but I think I actually remember this guy! The journal cover was really unique in that it had these drawings etched into it which showed details on how to draw Figment and highlighted all of his features. I thought this was really cool to have such a detailed, yet subtle design.

Verdict: I really liked all of the items that we received this month in our Mickey Monthly Theme Park Edition box. The journal and towel were both really unique and will definitely get used and the treats were both pretty tasty. I think it was a fun mix and it was good for the female, all ages category. While I really liked this box, I estimate the value to be about $56.76 which is almost $34 lower than the $90.54 ($79.99 + $10.55 shipping) cost of the box.

The draw of this box is that it is supposed to bring you items that you can only find at the actual theme park and the value in that is supposed to offset the fact that you are only receiving about a 55% return on the cost of the box most of the time. Our return was actually a little higher at around 62%, but I was able to find two out of the four items for sale online, one through the Disney shop and another on Amazon. This really takes away from the exclusivity of the box and doesn’t quite justify the value for me this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your box will be different based on your customization choices!

Value Breakdown: At $79.99 (plus $10.55 shipping to MD) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Towel: $43.05
  • Popcorn: $9.55
  • Candy: $9.24
  • Journal: $28.70

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

No way in. H*ll would I pay. 43$ for a beach towel even from Disney and I absolutely love Disney and their merchandise. I understand the exclusivity of this. But in sub boxes I expect a better value than I can easily find for myself!!!

I used to subscribe to this box and I follow them on Instagram. They show them selves shopping at he parks each month. I really think it’s unfair to say they aren’t exclusive to the parks. Disney always puts park merchandise on their Disney store website. It would very hard to only get stuff not sold in both. I believe the better value box is the $20 box ($10 shipping). I found it was a great value.
