Orglamix is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty subscription containing loose shadows, glitter pigments, aromatherapy roll-ons, and more. Many of the items in the subscription will be unique to the subscription and not available in the Orglamix shop (although they will have the same great formula).

They are now doing custom box prints every month and they’re quite pretty.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Orglamix May 2018 “Make Waves” Review

This month’s theme is “Make Waves.” I think that is mostly reflected in the item names, as you will see below.

The box came with an information card detailing the items and theme for May.

Coconut Milk Lip Butter – Listed Value $7

This smells delicious (I am a fan of coconut). It is fairly moisturizing and lasts about as long as a standard stick-type lip balm.

Seaweed Detox Purifying Face Cleanser – Listed Value $14

I don’t buy the whole concept of “detox” (it’s pseudoscience). But, just evaluating this as a cleanser, it seems to work well for my skin. There’s charcoal and I think that helps get some gunk out of my pores, and this doesn’t irritate my skin, and it rinses off cleanly.

“Beach, Please” Luminous Mineral Blush – Listed Value $18

You’ll get a lot of exclusive shades of face and eye makeup with this subscription. I knew from past boxes that I was a fan of this formula (it blends well with my finishing powder) and I’m liking this color, as well. Because it is a loose powder product, it is easy to get just the amount you need, and it is buildable, so this should work for a variety of skin tones.

“Sand Bar” Natural Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12.50

Orglamix sends out some pretty, colorful shades of eyeshadow, but I tend to stay in safe, neutral territory a lot of the time, and this brown works for me. These also have a blendable, non-irritating formula. I wear this over Urban Decay primer and it stays all day, even with my oily eyelids.

“Opal Shell Yea” Natural Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12.50

Here is a second eyeshadow shade for the month, and it is another one that is very wearable for me. It’s not too shiny or anything, despite the name. I like to keep colors like this around in case I go too dark or bright with a look; I can sweep a bit of this over my lids to tone things down a little. This is also good as a highlight shade for the inner corner of the eye.

Here are swatches of the opal shadow, the brown shadow, and the blush.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $64 for the May Orglamix subscription box. The items this month were all exclusive for this box, so I had to rely a lot on the information card, but I think the values were at least consistent with similar items in the shop. This box was a little heavier on color cosmetics, whereas other months may focus on skincare or fragrance, but they tend to mix it up regularly so you don’t end up with too many of any one type of item. The colors were definitely wearable for me and I was a fan of the non-makeup products, as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  No, this was May's box and they typically ship around the 10th, so you’d most likely get the June box (or maybe July) as your first one.

Value Breakdown: At $29 per box, here’s approximately what you are paying per item:

  • Lip butter $3.17
  • Cleanser $6.34
  • Blush $8.16
  • Brown eyeshadow $5.66
  • Opal eyeshadow $5.66

I’m interested in subbing to this, but the really bad reviews make me nervous. What have other people’s experiences generally been? Do you get the boxes you pay for? Do they respond to emails or other inquiries?

YES, thank you. Just because I prefer natural products doesn't mean I buy into hocus pocus. I appreciate your straightforward evaluation of the products.

The only thing that keeps me from subscribing is that they often send eyeshadows. You seriosly need only so many colors. But I do like the other items that they send. Yea… the detox… I agree. No such thing but I guess the idea is appealing.
Thanks for your honest review.

There will be an eyeshadow almost every month, it is true. The colors are usually different (I have few, if any duplicates). But I am not one to talk about eyeshadow collections, I have something like 50 palettes and an entire train case full of singles and a large Rubbermaid full of duos, trios, and quads…
