Papirmass (pronounced pah-purr-mass) is a Canadian art subscription that sends you a print from a new artist or illustrator each month. Their name is a play on the Danish word for "pulp," and they were founded by two artists to help keep themselves and others inspired and motivated through art.
They share the artist name in advance each month, but never spoil the artwork. I love their colorful and modern shipping envelopes, and I get so excited to open them up and see my surprise each month.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Edition #101, Featuring Illustrator Jeannie Phan
For Edition #101, Papirmass is featuring Canadian illustrator Jeannie Phan.
I love these small interviews. Jeannie is an illustrator I'm vaguely familiar with; her portfolio is really lovely and I feel like I've seen some of these images in popular magazines.
She's also apparently a master gardener! I love seeing what other pursuits the featured artists are tackling, and thinking about how it might inform their work.
"Ontario" by Jeannie Phan
I have a nice little collection of nature-inspired prints from Papirmass now, and I am so pleased to add this to my collection. That color palette is seriously perfection!
I love the way the space is broken up, too. We try to spend a lot of time on the weekends getting out to parks and for short nature hikes, and this reminds me of how I'm always thinking about those settings when we aren't in them... which animals are stopping by? Is it quiet or noisy when no one is around?
Like many other prints from this subscription, this one is an offset print. It's an unusual 9"x 9" size so I might need to do some hunting to find a frame for it!
Papirmass always includes an art appreciation prompt on the back of the print. I also just love this concept in general; we have a lot of art hanging in our home, and having all this info on the back makes it easy to remember everything about this piece when I move things around to new rooms and new frames.
Here's a detail of the print– I almost didn't notice the landscape painter at first!
This subscription also always contains a small quote card, about the size of a postcard. This is a new design this month and I love it; it's almost like a mini-print! Definitely special enough to hang on your corkboard or fridge, or maybe even frame.
The back of the quote card also always has a small creative activity. They're sometimes more for doodling, sometimes for coloring, but they're always great to have on hand for when you need a quick creative break at work. 🙂 I'm digging this design, which kind of mimics Jeannie Phan's flat "paint-by-number" type style. Plus, who doesn't want to fantasize about owning an a-frame in the woods?
Verdict: It's not something I truly "need", but Papirmass is an affordable and fun creative indulgence for me. I love getting a new print every month to help dress up my walls, and I think this would be a great gift idea as a housewarming gift for fans of contemporary art and illustration! I also love the inspiration I get each month. I signed up for a year at $8/month (which is an amazing deal!), but you can also join month-t0-month for $14/month (or $12/month prepaid quarterly).
Is this box still available if I subscribe today? No. If you signed up before May 30th, your first shipment would be for June.
