SinglesSwag June 2018 Review

Each box comes with an information card listing the items included in the box as well as an encouraging monthly quote.

Mollie Jacob Velvet Ambition Lip GlossFull Size – Retail Value $22.00

I gave this color a try I usually don’t wear pink gloss. I applied several coats of the lip gloss; I got an adequate amount of color. The gloss wasn’t sticky and lasted throughout the morning. The gloss is paraben, petrochemical, fragrance, and cruelty-free. The gloss has jojoba seed oil. I may mix this gloss with another shade to achieve more of berry color.

I thought this was cute packaging; the lid of the lipgloss wand is heart shaped.

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling - Retail Value $16.00 (found here for $12.46)

This book may be familiar to some; the hardcover was in the October 2015 Popsugar Must Have Box. Upon receiving the book, it looked as if it was used or sitting in a warehouse for a long time; the book didn’t look crisp or new. I actually had this book but ended up getting rid of it so now its back in my possession, and I must read it now. I read the intro and the first chapter How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet's Confessions on page eight and I wasn’t impressed. I love her work and enjoyed her in A Wrinkle in Time, and I look forward to seeing her in Ocean’s 8, but from what I read, it wasn’t for me, it’s only the beginning of the book, so I will give it a try and continue reading. I think the subject matter of the first chapter was too light-hearted for my taste, not relatable. From Amazon:

From the author of the beloved New York Times bestselling book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and the creator and star of The Mindy Project comes a collection of essays that are as hilarious and insightful as they are deeply personal.

In Why Not Me?, Kaling shares her ongoing journey to find contentment and excitement in her adult life, whether it’s falling in love at work, seeking new friendships in lonely places, attempting to be the first person in history to lose weight without any behavior modification whatsoever, or most important, believing that you have a place in Hollywood when you’re constantly reminded that no one looks like you.

In “How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet’s Confessions,” Kaling gives her tongue-in-cheek secrets for surefire on-camera beauty, (“Your natural hair color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn’t the land of appropriate–this is Hollywood, baby. Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blonde.”) “Player” tells the story of Kaling being seduced and dumped by a female friend in L.A. (“I had been replaced by a younger model. And now they had matching bangs.”) In “Unlikely Leading Lady,” she muses on America’s fixation with the weight of actresses, (“Most women we see onscreen are either so thin that they’re walking clavicles or so huge that their only scenes involve them breaking furniture.”) And in “Soup Snakes,” Kaling spills some secrets on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and close friend, B.J. Novak (“I will freely admit: my relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell.”)

Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, and the celebrations of her second coming-of-age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who’s ever been at a turning point in their life or career can relate to. And those who’ve never been at a turning point can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bradley Cooper.

Beauty Papier Daisy Toner –

Beauty Papier Daisy Toner, Full Size - Retail Value $33.53 USD (£25), Listed Value $35.00

This toner is gentle on my face and is lightly scented.

From Beauty Papier:

Infused with real Chrysanthemums flowers. This super floral toner is based on traditional herbal medicine. It contains Chrysanthemum Morifolium Flower Extract and Anthemis Nobilis Flower Water to gently purify, tone, hydrate and soften the skin.

Unicorn Cookie

Unicorn Cookie - Listed Value $5.00

This shortbread decorated cookie has the design of a unicorn on the front. The cookie is made in the USA and has dyes, milk, wheat, soybean, and eggs for those with dietary restrictions. The cookie tasted like shortbread, and the frosting was sweet. It was crunchy and not too flavorful besides the sweetness from the frosting. This subscription is known to include a snack or sweet treat in their boxes, and I’ve come to look forward to their monthly selection. I didn’t find this particular cookie on their website, so the price is taken from the info card. However, the unicorn cookie can be found in the Magical Day Cookie Bouquet.

Jules Smith Luxe Layered Necklace-

Jules Smith Luxe Layered Necklace - Listed Value $74.00

SinglesSwag has been sending a wide range of accessories most notably necklaces. This month selection is a layered necklace with turquoise beading, gold bar, and an embedded circle. I like this month's design, and the small pop of turquoise is trendy. This particular necklace isn't on their website it may be made exclusively for SinglesSwag. I took the price from the info card. I will be wearing this often.

Cocoάge Cosmetics Addicted 24k Hand and Body Crème in Brown Sugar3.4 oz Full Size - Retail Value $29.95

This rich, light-weight, non-greasy hand and body crème is moisturizing and lightly scented, the aroma reminded me of almonds. I can't believe this hand crème is $30.00, a bit over-priced.

The Beauty Crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara

The Beauty Crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara, Full-Size - Retail Value $19.99

I was not impressed with this mascara after reading about how fabulous it is, see below. I was disappointed. The mascara did give me length nothing to brag about, and it was clump free. I usually can tell by the first couple of coats if a mascara is giving my lashes life and this did not, it may differ for others.

From the Beauty Crop:

  1. Introducing our New & Improved Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara reformulated for even more glamorous no-smudge all day wear - now in a zero-waste squeeze tube

  2. With one sweep of the wand, Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara coats every single lash from root to tip with it's gentle, smudge and clump-free formula effortlessly. Nourished with Argan Oil & Jojoba condition, separate, plump and lengthen lashes for gorgeous, glamorous and fabulous lashes!

  3. Unlike conventional mascaras, our mascara was formulated as a tubing mascara which wraps each lash with a water-resistant, 360-degree coverage which does not to smudge or smear - say goodbye to panda eyes! Its the perfect mascara that takes you from a busy day at work to a sweaty gym session or chilled out pool splash.

Verdict: The June SinglesSwag didn’t disappoint. My favorites are the toner, hand and body crème and the yummy cookie. It had a book and jewelry this month as well as products for my face and body I know subscribers will be pleased with a book. I would like to see more lifestyle products, such as a photo frame, stationery, sunglasses, beach towel/picnic blanket, picnic accessories, board game, tablecloth, cocktail shaker, cocktail kit, or manicure/pedicure set, just some thoughts. This box delivers on sending at least seven items monthly, and the value is over $100. SinglesSwag gives out monthly spoilers on their boxes, so be sure to sign-up for notifications! This month’s box has a value of $200.47.

The lip gloss I received was a sheer shimmer! I didn’t realize they sent variations of that item, but I’m definitely not complaining. I love me some sparkle 😁

My cookie was also in pieces. I thought it was dry and pretty tasteless overall.

While I liked the box overall, I find the RV to be really inflated in general…especially the jewelry.

They send a lot of lotions. I’m accumulating quite a collection. I would prefer a wider variety of items. They send too much in the same category.

My poor cookie came in about 8 pieces. I wouldn’t have cared but my 4 year old niece was sitting beside me when I opened my box. I would have loved to have given her that cute unicorn cookie. I haven’t tried the mascara yet. But I am thrilled that it is WATERPROOF! Waterproof mascara is all I wear. You seldom see them in subscription boxes. Thank you SinglesSwag. The necklace, ho hum… this one, I don’t hate. Lol

I actually really like the necklace but it seems like it was only in the box, I’ll have to check eBay or swaps.

Nice review, Nich! I am not single…but have been very pleased with the Singles Swag boxes the past couple months I’ve subscribed…this one included! Haven’t tried the toner yet because I have a few currently open…but I’m looking forward to it. I actually LOVE the Beauty Crop mascara…it’s one of the few mascaras I’ve tried that doesn’t give me raccoon eyes. 🙂

I’m already looking forward to my next box!
