The Bookish Box is a book-inspired subscription box from Appraising Pages, which is now called The Bookish Shop. This month is the first time I've gotten the box in a shipping envelope rather than a literal box. It's super cute!

Bookish Box unboxing

Originally, The Bookish Box was a subscription box filled with bookish objects only—no actual books involved. Recently, though, they changed up their game and added several subscription varieties to choose from, including one that does have a book inside!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is of the Bookish Shirt & Goodies Box, which is $29.99 a month + shipping.

The Bookish Box Subscription Box "Broken Hearts Club" May 2018 Review

Bookish Box info card and theme

Bookish Box info card

Here's the info card for this month's box. Note that they list out every item that you could get with the subscription (including add-ons). In my subscription box, I got everything in the top section plus the shirt.

Bookish Box calendar card

Calendar Card

In January, I got a little "Calendar Kit" including an easel and just two calendar cards (for January and February). With each month's package, I get a card for the upcoming month. So this May box came with a June card. I love the colors and the crystal pattern on this card. The sentiment, taken from Throne of Glass, is sweet, too. Never hurts to have a little inspiration around!

Bookish Box coffee pouch

Bookish Box sumatran coffee

Exclusive Happenstance Coffee Blend

The first item in the box is this little packet of Sumatran coffee from Happenstance in Tulsa, Oklahoma. These grounds are rich and hearty. I love coffee (but weirdly don't make it on my own that often), so I thought this was a clever item to put in the box!

Bookish Box pool float card

Bookish Box floating beverage holder

Bookish Box heart shaped beverage float

Bookish Box heart pool float for drinks

Bookish Box pool float for canned drinks

Bookish Box pink float

Heart Pool Float

Honestly, I wish my life was glamorous enough to justify a pool float for my fave drinks! I don't have a pool, nor do most of my pals in the city, and I don't think a beverage float would survive/be welcome at a public pool. But I do think these kinds of floaties are really cute. This one even has flower shapes sprinkled inside it!

Bookish Box gold heart pendant

Bookish Box gold heart necklace

Rose Gold Heart Necklace by the Bookish Shop - Estimated Value $8.00

This specific necklace isn't listed on the Bookish Shop right now, but there is a really similar design with a moon charm that I used to estimate value. This 18.5" necklace is a little pinker than it looks in the pictures above (the yellow background makes it look a bit golder than it is). It's a really lovely little necklace that's lightweight and easy to wear.

Bookish Box simon's sweets candle

Bookish Box candle tin

Exclusive Love, Simon Simon's Sweets Oreo Candle by Spidey Scents, 2 oz.

I don't know how they did it, but this candle really does smell like chocolate cookies! The candle itself is pink and covered in black glitter. I like the fact that it comes in a tin so that it's easy to store when I'm not using it.

Bookish Box i burn

10 Things I Hate About You Button

Did you know that 10 Things I Hate About You is based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew? No wonder it's a classic, right?

This 1.5" button has a velvety smooth finish that I really like. The retro details like the cassette tape and peace-sign hands are cute, but I wish the design of the button was a bit different. The tight text and the itty bitty details make it really hard to appreciate what this button is all about unless you're looking at it up close.

Bookish Box coloring postcard

Monthly Doodle

Each month of this subscription comes with a black and white "doodle" that's one part art print and another part coloring book page! It's postcard-sized and cute to keep in my coloring book stash.

Bookish Box tee shirt

T-Shirt by Evie Bookish - Estimated Value $22.00

This Wuthering Heights t-shirt is made from 100% pre-shrunk cotton, so it's really soft and comfy. I like that the cut isn't perfectly unisex, but isn't terribly tailored in that way that women's tees can be (with super short sleeves and a really fitted shape). While this shirt isn't among them yet, most tees available on the Bookish Shop are $22.00, so I assume this one would be around there, price-wise.

The Verdict: I think this box perfectly nails the YA age range, with its mix of playful exclusives and other unique items. The quality and vibe of what I got feel similar to what I might find at a teen accessories store at the mall—I'd be totally comfortable gifting this box to a teen or tween reader in my life. I think adults can have just as much fun with this box, but know that the items skew a bit younger, style-wise!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Sign up now to get the upcoming box available!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $37.49 after shipping. The items I could estimate values for add up to $30.00, meaning the rest of the items must have an average value of $1.25 each to make the box worth the $39.00 price. Another way to look at it is that the average price per item via the box is $4.69.

I so agree Kim!! Why is there no book?

I think it is kind of strange that they have a book box where the book is an upgrade. Without the book it is just a box of stuff.
