One question we see often from readers is whether or not certain boxes are worth committing to with a prepaid subscription. Some offer great discounts for buying in advance, and other boxes have fun perks that only annual subscribers get (like the ability to customize items in your box). How can you be sure that shelling out the big bucks in advance will pay off for you in the long run?

We're excited today to kick off a new series, starting with Boxycharm! We've put together an overview of what we received in the last 6 months, including some of our favorite items and product discoveries. If you're newer to Boxycharm, we hope this is an easy way to see what you can expect from this subscription long term.

Plus: You can also enter to win these 6 boxes at the bottom of this post! Special thanks to Boxycharm for supplying this prize.

What I Received In 6 Months of Boxycharm

Products By Category

6 months boxycharm eyeshadow palettes

For beauty subscriptions, we're often asked what types of items you can expect to receive. Boxycharm typically sends 4-5 full-sized beauty products in each box, with an emphasis on cosmetics and makeup. Here's a breakdown by category of our last six months from Boxycharm:

  • Eye Products: 5
  • Lip Products: 5
  • Brush Sets: 5
  • Eyeshadow Palettes: 4
  • Brow Products: 2
  • Highlighter/Bronzer Palettes: 2
  • Blush: 2
  • Skincare Treatments: 2
  • Primer: 2
  • Magnetic Z Palette: 1
  • Mascara: 1
  • Body Creme: 1
  • False Eyelashes: 1

(Boxycharm sometimes sends variations, so if you've also been a subscriber this year too, the products you received might be a bit different from our list.)

6 month boxycharm brush sets

The takeaway? Boxycharm definitely sends a lot of palettes and makeup brushes–this is truly a subscription for makeup addicts and those who want to build up their cosmetics collection!

For the categories that we did see a lot of, I was still happy with the variation. With the makeup brushes, for example, they all serve different purposes–May's box had an eye and brow set, while February's brushes were for face applications like foundation, contouring, and setting powder. Even the eye products we received varied: over six months, we received an eyeliner gel, a smoky eye pencil, brown eyeliner, a multi-purpose shimmer product, and only one black mascara. 🙂

Also, only one of these products was not a full-size product (June's Brazilian Bum Bum Creme), which over a 6 month period for any subscription is awesome.

Total Retail Value

Each monthly Boxycharm always includes more than $100 worth of product at retail prices, so you're guaranteed at least 4.76 times more in value compared to what you paid.

For January through June 2018, the retail value on our boxes totaled a whopping $813.50! If we subscribed month to month, we'd have paid just $126 total. That means what we received was worth 6.45 times what we paid. Put another way, it's like receiving an 84.5% discount on the items in these boxes. 😱

And, that doesn't take into account any additional savings you get with prepaid subscriptions.

Boxycharm Prepaid Subscriber Perks

Get a Discount on Your Monthly Box

Boxycharm doesn't usually offer discounts on their monthly box, so buying a prepaid subscription is the only way you can get this box for less than $21 per month. Here are the payment options for Boxycharm:

  • Month-to-Month: $21 per box
  • 3 Months Prepaid: $19.66 per box, $59 total. Save $4 vs monthly.
  • 6 Months Prepaid: $19.33 per box, $116 total. Save $10 vs monthly.
  • 12 Months Prepaid: $19.25 a box, $231 total. Save $21 vs monthly–like getting 1 box free!

The 12-month subscription is the best value, but even the 3- and 6-month options will save you some cash.

Earn Loyalty Points

Boxycharm also has a point system, known as “Charms”. Every 1000 Charms you earn equals $10 to spend in their Charm shop, so you can get even more value out of your subscription throughout the year. (Check out past examples of what’s in the Charm Shop.)

Here's how you earn Charms in your account:

  • Referrals: Earn 750 Charms for every friend you refer
  • Product Reviews: Earn 100 Charms for each product review
  • Loyalty: Earn 250 Charms every month just by staying a subscriber – no action needed!

Even if you don't refer any friends or review products, just by subscribing you'll earn enough points to get $10 to spend in the Charm shop every 4 months. That means annual subscribers get a minimum of $30 per year to spend!

And that's just for subscribing: you can earn more than $100 total in Charm credits per year if you review all of the products available, and even more if you refer friends, too. That's a great bonus on top of this already high-value subscription.

I started boxy charm and got the boxy lux 2020. I really loved the things that come inside the box. I didn’t get to order again until about 2 months ago so now I like to order the regular box,the premium box,and I also ordered the December boxy lux. I received my premium box and I received my free palette breakfast in bed but I never received the actual lux box. Please help I love your products so far but I don’t want to pit another order in for the Jan boxes if I don’t even receive my Dec lux. I have the order number and whatever you need to prove that I ordered this. I love the products but I want to get my dec lux before I sign up and spend more money. I would love to stay with you as a customer and get the basic, premium, and the lux if I can just get what I have already paid for. Thank You and God Bless

I most would want the lip products. If I have to pick one, I’d go with the MAC Liptensity lipstick. I think it is a good color for evenings out and is a great brand that doesn’t dry out my lips, but has staying power.

I have gotten all these boxes. I’m surprised at how much I enjoyed the bright colors in the Alamar palette – I have used some as a liner, since all over bright color isn’t my jam. But, super fun!
