Why and Whale Monthly Surprise Pack June 2018 Review
This insert highlighted how the purchase of your box helps support small businesses, which I think is great! It also provided information about member deals and their social media tags.
Noodoll Mini Riceananas Pineapple Plush - Retail Value $17.80 (£13.50)
This little pineapple plush is the cutest! I love the size because it’s big enough for little hands but small enough that we can take it with us. It also has a velcro strap attached to it, which means it can easily attach to a backpack, car seat, or stroller. That makes it just a little bit more practical as a toy for me as a mom since we have lost stuffed animals in public before and it’s not fun! Plus it’s machine washable!
Plan Toys Pineapple Maraca - Retail Value $6.00
So two pineapples in a box really scream summer to me! I love this little pineapple maraca. It makes for a fun toy, and as instruments go, it’s not too loud, which is always good in my book. Plan toys are made out of sustainable material with formaldehyde-free glue, organic color, and water-based dyes. It makes you feel a little bit better when this inevitably ends up in your child’s mouth because it looks so yummy!
Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sunscreen in Summer Scent (3 oz) - Retail Value $19.95
This summer I decided to try and find a natural sunscreen that I can feel comfortable using since I will be nursing my infant son, so I was really happy to see this in the box! The formula has 100% zinc oxide as the active ingredient which is actually more difficult to find than you would think. Even though it’s zinc, it actually absorbs really well and very quickly leaving no white residue. The summer scent is nice and light, smelling a little bit like lime and aloe to me. It’s 80-minute water-resistant and hypo-allergenic. I like that this is sunscreen the whole family can use too! This is a full-size bottle at 3 ounces and is a great size to fit into your diaper or beach bag without taking up too much room. It’s already set aside to be packed for our beach trip!
Grovia Zippered Wet Bag in Chiffon - Retail Value $10.00
I used cloth diapers almost exclusively with my daughter, and very lazily with my first son, so I am already a big fan of wet bags and have a few. The one we use most is actually kind of bulky, so I am happy to replace it with this one that packs up pretty small. I love the snap strap so I can attach it to a bag or stroller and despite packing up small, it is actually a pretty large size and can hold 4-6 diapers, which is great! This bright, sunny yellow will be perfect for bringing to the beach to hold wet diapers or swimsuits.
Kortni Jeane Mini Euro Short Swim Trunks - Estimated Value $20.00 (based on similar styles found here)
What summer box would be complete without an adorable swimsuit? I am not a huge fan of the tight Euro shorts type of trunks, but luckily these are a little loose on my son so the fit didn’t bother me. I was able to tighten them easily with the waist tie, although for the pictures, I probably could have gotten them a little tighter. My son was so excited for these and wore them around the house for the rest of the afternoon! I love the color and pattern and that these are so unique. I also like that the material is the same stretchy fabric that girls’ swimsuits are made out of, meaning he can move around easily in them. I had never heard of this brand before, but they make a lot of cute swimsuits on their site!
Verdict: I was really happy with our Why and Whale Monthly Surprise Pack this month. The summer vibe was perfect and everything was either incredibly useful or fun! I love that they always include something to wear, something to play with and something to try since I feel like that ensures a good mix of items. The total value of this box came to $73.75 which is higher than their promised value of over $59. We paid $63.95 ($59 + $4.95) for this box and I really enjoyed the curation this month, so the value was definitely there for me. The box seemed a little bit more aimed at parents with the wet bag and sunscreen, but my son really loved the toys and the swimsuit, so I think that’s okay in this case!
