BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds). Check out Ragan's most recent review of the super chewer box!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

July 2018 Barkbox Review

The July 2018 BarkBox Subscription Box was themed: BARK vs Toxicritters. Our box included two plush toys, two bags of treats, and a pack of plaque busters.

They included this fun little comic to go along with the theme - I think this is one of their best theme tie-ins when it comes to the card.

Buckles was less concerned about the theme than me!

Smell Raiser - Value $12

The first toy is skunk with a full-body stink protection suit - I never thought I'd type something like that out.

Buckles went BONKERS for this thing. He didn't want to move on to other items for quite a bit - and he now covets this little toy.

The Shellacker - Value $12

The second toy is a highly armed turtle made of t-shirt rope, shreddable fluff, nylon rockets, and a spiky ball core - they've been doing this toy-inside-of-a-toy thing for a while now, and I think it's great for a dog that might destroy a plush toy immediately.

Buckles did play with this, but it was greatly overshadowed by the skunk toy!

CHOMP! Treats - Value $8

These were unavailable in the BarkShop for purchase - so I'm pulling the value from the app.

These are little pork treats that are wheat, soy, and corn free - and made in the USA.

These were the favorite treat of the month, hands down. These are the current go-to treat for him.

Amaze-O Quacks! Treats - Value $12

Like the treats above, I couldn't find these in the BarkShop. Also like the treats above, they're wheat, soy, and soy-free - as well as wheat-free. These are also a single-source treat, so they're simply made of duck, and that's it.

He liked these as well - but our dog doesn't tend to love the crispier treats as much.

Crumps Plaque Sticks - Value $5

I would love for Buckles to be really into a snack that is good for his teeth or his joints, but it's like he knows when a treat has a hidden mission - and he simply denies them:

My case in point - happy to give them a sniff for the camera, but it was a definite pass.

Verdict: I pretty much always expect Buckles to deny the chew in the box, so it's all about the 2 toys and 2 bags of treats for us - and it's been a while since we have received something that he hasn't really enjoyed.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Customer care let us know that your first box will now always be either their Welcome Box or the current month's box, followed by the normal schedule the following month.

I would love to get this subscription for my dog. She’s a 2yr old patterdale terrier. She’s an aggressive chewer. Will these toys last at least a day? 🤣🤣

Buckles you’re looking as cute as ever!!! I’m glad you got to review the Smell Raiser toy because I saw it in the mini comic book and I wanted to see what it actually looked like since it looked like something my dog Miya would love. Upon seeing your pics I can say I was right that she would love it with that big fuzzy tail! Unfortunately she got the Crab Van Goon and Dr.Nibbler. I shouldn’t say “unfortunately” because she still loved both! Looks like she may get spoiled with an extra toy this month since I’m about to order Smell Raiser on their website! Thanks for the great review!

BarkBox has a Super Chewers option for aggressive chewers. My German Shepherd can take apart a fabric toy in a matter of minutes, so I would advise against the regular version of this box and maybe check out the Super Chewers one. I haven’t signed up but am thinking of it.

We have the extra large dog with Extra Toy Club. This month came with an envelope that we haven’t opened yet. It’s supposed to be a surprise for the dog, so I need to be sure to have my camera phone ready for the event, haha! This is a GREAT month!

Still laughing at you writing that you never thought you’d write about the skunk in the stink suit, haha!

The skunk toy actually has two “stink bomb” mini toys inside its tail. I did not know this till my dog found them!!

I was very impressed with the box this month – so much creativity and my dog loved everything (she’ll happily keep chasing that flying turtle disk toy as long as my arm can keep up with throwing it). My pup can be pretty hard on toys and the quality of the toys really has stood up to her heavy chewing (the toys from last month are amazingly still in pretty good shape and she plays with them all the time). I had subscribed to BarkBox seveal years ago with my last dog and they really have upped their game since then in my opinion which is great to see.
