BohoBabe July 2018 Review
BohoBabe welcomes you to your box with this Thank You card, the reverse side of which includes a packing list with listed values. Last month, most of the items included were from BohoBabe's own online shop, but this month they're back to showcasing items from other small businesses.
Nature Bag Noy JungleVine® Tote Bag — Retail Value $19.99
This small mesh bag was made sustainably from jungle vines by indigenous Khmu artisans in Laos. It strikes me as a more stiff and sturdy version of the cotton mesh farmer's market bags that some people use for produce. It doesn't stretch/give the same way the cotton kind does, which means that what you see is what you get size-wise. This one is rather petite, measuring 10" x 6", but I kind of like that it means you can't fill it so full that it's too heavy to carry.
This info card gives some history on both the bags and the Khmu people. I love that this was included; it makes using the bag so much more meaningful!
Rag & Bone Hand Painted Bohemian Driftwood Arrow — Retail Value $6.00
This month's BohoBabe box was quite the mixed media experience, with the rough woven texture of the Nature Bag and this piece of driftwood! It's been hand painted with a patterned arrow and secured with hardware so you can hang it on your wall. For me, this falls under the category of something I would never buy for myself—if anything, I'd make something similar with a piece of wood or other plant matter that I've found in nature—so I'm not sure if I'll end up using it in my home or saving it to give as a gift. But, it is unique and cute!
Exclusive Sassy Sacha Jewelry Polymer Clay Pendant Necklace — Retail Value $20.00
This necklace's pendant is made of polymer clay and colored with alcohol ink. It's strung along a pink faux-suede string that can be adjusted by moving the knots. The BohoBabe card says this is an exclusive necklace, but it looks pretty similar to the ones listed on Sassy Sacha's Etsy page. While the colors on the pendant are very striking, they aren't usually the colors I wear. This is another item that I'm not sure what I'll do with—maybe save it to give as a gift down the line.
The necklace came wrapped around this card that tells you how to find Sassy Sacha online. On the reverse side is a 15% discount code!
Living Earth Botanicals Mermaid Soap — Retail Value $7.00 (found on sale here for $5.25)
This bar of handmade soap is about as beachy as it gets! It looks remarkably like someone took a slice out of the ocean and it smells like coconut. It's also infused with pieces of crushed loofah for an exfoliating factor. I'm not one of those gals who identifies with mermaids, but I do love a good handmade soap, so I'll add this to my bar soap lineup to be used when my current one runs out!
BohoBabe Tassel Bead Anklet — Listed Value $16.00
I haven't worn an anklet in years and quite honestly they had fallen off my radar until now! I thought this was a bracelet when I first pulled it out of my box, and indeed it does adjust to a small enough size that it could be worn on my wrist. But, I thought it'd be more fun to pop it on my ankle for a summery touch. I like how neutral its tan string is and how its beads 'n' tassel are pretty small, so it's not an in-your-face kind of accessory. I also adjusted it so it fits high on my ankle and isn't bouncing around while I walk. It's really cute!
PaperLoveBugs Cruelty-Free Hand Painted Feather — Listed Value $1.00
BohoBabe includes a gold-dipped feather in each month's box. This is my first mint one, and the fluffiest I've received so far. I have stuck a few upright in flower pots but there is definitely a saturation point of feathers in flower pots, so I'm not sure what I'll do with this one. Maybe use it to decorate a gift for an upcoming birthday.
The Verdict: Even though several of the items included in July's BohoBabe box didn't resonate with me, I still recognize & appreciate the quality and uniqueness that was represented. As I've said before, I'm always game to pass an item or two along to friends, as it keeps the clutter down in my home and is fun to offer little surprises to my ladies. My favorite item this month was the handmade bag, but the anklet surprised me as a close second! The contents of this month's box add up to $69.99, which is lower than what the card suggested. Still, this is a good value for a $39.99 per month (now with free US shipping!) box.
