Cricket Crate June 2018 Review
Each month you will receive a Cricket Wonder magazine. This goes over what the main theme of the month is and how that ties back to the project. This month focuses is on space! There are extra sections about 'going inside your toddler's mind' and a list of nursery rhymes. Big Yellow Moon is one of my son's favorites!
Next, I received this little information card that goes over everything in the box. It takes you through each craft and ways you can encourage your little one to interact with each game.
Painted Planets Set
The first project for the month is to paint planets! I received a set of circle stickers which will be our planets, paint, two sticks, and a wooden ball.
I received two small jars of paint, one yellow and one red. There was just enough paint for this project so nothing leftover for a separate project.
The sticks are used like a paintbrush to apply the paint to your sticker sheet. You might be wondering what the wooden ball is for. I would have never guessed so scroll down to see, its very cool!
We started the project by sticking the sticker sheet into the box. Then, I used the sticks to apply small blobs of paint around the edges. This was messy so I provided some light guidance for my son, otherwise, there would have been paint everywhere.
Now for the fun part! All you do is place that wooden ball in the box with the paint, close the box, and shake it up! When you open the box you will find that the wooden ball moved the paint around making a unique design on your planet stickers. My son absolutely loved this part of the project! We sang songs and danced around with the box to make the wooden ball move and move.
Here is our finished project! Once the paint is dry, you can remove each circle sticker that are now your planets. You can use this anywhere you like, the planet box that was included this month would be a great spot, but my son really wanted to place this all over the box that we used to create these planets in. I love how unique these are and how quick yet fun the project was.
Fabric Planets
The next item that we received this month are these cute fabric planets. They look like they were handmade with love! My son recognized the sun, star, and moon, but he really loved learning more other planets that he had never heard of before. I would have never thought to teach him about the planets just yet, but I was happily surprised by how interested he was in this subject.
Sensory Space Box
This is an elevated sensory bin! The cardboard box is super easy to put together and has openings at either end that you can use to place your fabric planets in. My son loved putting the shapes in and out of the box! He would put them all in, shake the box, and then see which one he pulled out. There are so many different ways that you can use this set and I love how unique it is!
I had this set sitting out for Fox when he woke up from his nap. He was so excited to learn and discover more about space and planets.
Crickets Too Little - Listed Value $6.95
Each month you can expect to receive a Cricket board book. In this month's book, we learn that Cricket, Sam, and Shelly love watching the stars together each night. They are all away on vacation, though, so Cricket is worried that there won't be anyone to enjoy the sky with her. Those summer vacation blues when it seems like all of your friends are away at the same time is a feeling I remember well.
Verdict: I loved this month's Cricket Crate! As I said earlier, I would have never thought to introduce the theme of space to my son just yet. However, it was a subject that he was very interested in. It was great watching him eagerly ask more questions and discover each of the projects this month. We loved painting our planets and the space sensory box is something we are going to be using for a long time now! For $19.95 a month, I received a sensory box set, a book, and one craft project. Not to mention the detailed monthly magazine that I am started to eagerly await. All in all, this is a wonderful deal that is always a crowd pleaser in my house!
