Cricket Crate July 2018 Review
Each month you will receive a Cricket Wonder magazine. This goes over what the main theme of the month is and how that ties back to the project. This month focuses is on kitchen play! Plus, there are extra sections that go into why sensory play is so important for your little one.
Next, I received this little information card that goes over everything in the box. It takes you through how to build your stove set for kitchen play and how to make DIY dough!
Box Stove
This month's theme is kitchen play so of course, our first item is a toy stove! I am in love with the fact that they made this little stove out of the box that everything arrives in. All you have to do is empty the box, flip it inside out, and assemble. So quick and easy! Not to mention that this stove is amazing with such great detail and the little wooden knobs.
Kitchen Play Set
To accompany the stove, we also received this bowl and utensil set. It is great that they sent extra pieces to really allow kitchen play to come alive!
I had everything set up for Fox when he woke up from his nap as a little surprise. He loves pretending to cook and has a lot of plastic food sets around our house. He was so excited to see his very own stove and right away asked us, "what will you have?!" Playing make believe is something that I really encourage and I love that this month's box focused so much on using our imagination.
DIY Play Dough
This month's DIY project is making your own play dough! I haven't done an activity like this since elementary school so I was very excited to dive in. The information card lists out each step in order and all of the ingredients are labeled to make this super quick, easy, and fun!
All you had to do was get a mixing bowl and spoon to make the dough. I set everything out for Fox at his seat at the table to start. He helped me add all of the ingredients and then we mixed everything together with a spoon. Once our ingredients were mixed together, I just formed it all into a ball, making sure that everything was kneaded. Then for our finished product! This little ball of play dough smelled like sweet strawberries but had the same consistency as the play-doh you buy at the store. Fox absolutely loved helping me make his own dough that he could then play with! He immediately asked if he could take it to his play-doh station in the basement to mold into different shapes. This was an incredible activity that I am hoping to do again with different colors!
Crickets Birthday Surprise - Listed Value $6.95
Each month you can expect to receive a Cricket board book. In this month's book, Cricket wants to surprise her Grandma with something special for her birthday. Things don't work out as planned, but she acts quickly to make the day extra special for her Grandma. I always love these little books and that we get a new Cricket story each month, it is like checking-in with a friend!
Verdict: I loved this month's Cricket Crate! Fox is currently obsessed with pretend cooking and play-doh (even though play-doh can be extremely messy at times I love that he is using his sensory skills with it). So this box felt extremely personalized to his age and current favorites! I love that the box turned into the stove which makes me think that Cricket Crate is focusing on our environment and sustainability, something I truly appreciate. All in all, we received a super fun DIY dough kit, a stove, a utensil set to use during our kitchen play, and a new Cricket book for $19.95! As a full-time Mommy, the value is in knowing that I will receive new activities each month that I can use to interact with Fox and to help his ever growing mind.
