D.L. & Co. Candle Subscription Box Review – Summer 2018

D.L. & Co. is a candle company that recently launched two quarterly candle subscriptions. (You might have seen their candles in Box of Style and Breo Box.) This is the review of their $84.15 a season, DL Box.

The box arrives in a gorgeous reusable box with a magnetic flap lid. (The gold foil text on the lid is classy, too!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: D.L. & Co. Modern Alchemy Box

The Cost: $84.15 a box (Or $99 a box if you don’t want a subscription)

LIMITED TIME DEAL: Use code BOX10 to save 10% off of one-time box purchases!

The Products: A collection of candles, home fragrance, and other home goods.

Ships to: U.S. only

Fireside Embers 3 Wick Candle - Value $50?

This candle scent is a blend of Spiced Incense, Pine Needles, Woodland Herbs, Spiced Hickory, Saffron Suede and Vanilla Bean. It smells like winter and the holidays to me!

It's 13.5 ounces and has a burn time of 80 hours.

Mandarin Splash Abstract Candle - Retail Value $31

This is a ceramic vessel with a glazed orange interior. I love the minimalist design, and the Mandarin scent is lovely, too.

This candle is 8 ounces with a burn time of 45 hours.

Honey Absolute Votive - Retail Value $16

This candle scent is a blend of Sparkling Mandarin, Neroli Blossom, Sweet Honeysuckle, Yellow Mimosa, Honey Absolute, and Golden Amber.

This is probably the chicest votive candle I’ve ever seen! The vessel is ceramic with metallic accents. It’s 3 ounces, with a burn time of 25 hours.

DL Matches in Glass Bottle - Retail Value $15

This chic little bottle includes 50 matches and a striker on the back.

These are tall matches, too. (They measure about 3 inches long.)

Rainforest Lily Diffuser - Retail Value $32

This has a sweet and light floral scent.

The scent isn’t as strong as some of the D. L. & Co. fragrances I’ve sampled, but it is noticeable in smaller rooms like a powder room.

Pineapple Journal – Retail Value $20

This journal features a glitter pineapple on the cover, and lined pages inside:

I love that D.L. & Co. includes non-candle home items in their boxes – and they don’t feel like filler, either. This is a quality notebook!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $164. I think that's great for a candle and home goods box that cost $84.15. Everything in this box is impressive, too - the packaging and scents are all stunning, and this could be a great box to gift, or to split up into multiple gifts.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. As of today, inventory is sold out. We'll update when we hear back from D.L. & Co on inventory.

What do you think of this subscription from D. L. & Co?

What happened to D. L. & Co? I tried to go to their site to buy some stuff, but it’s gone. Anybody know?

I got my box finally, it was very late and contained different items than shown in this review or on the website. I also recently was charged for the most recent box, but it did not come in the same black flip top box like it normally does. It was all just in the cardboard box, and it was almost all items that are on clearance right now. Has anyone else been getting different items than what are supposed to be in the box?

I appears they are substituting their mystery boxes for the subscription ones. The mystery boxes have also become a total joke. They sent out really nice ones for a while but now I can literally buy everything in a mystery box I paid $50 for $86 on their site. Considering its leftovers from thanksgiving and clearance stuff I wouldn’t have bought it to begin with so it was just a waste of $50. Now they are sending mystery crap boxes in place of annual sub memberships now too. iphone cases and bright orange candles. yay. This sub went downhill FAST.

Has anyone had issues receiving this box? I was charged August 8th and still have not received a box or a shipping notice. When I asked they said the next box should be available shortly. But clearly it has been available since July, so I am not sure what that means. This will be my second box, the first I received in a timely manner if I recall.

I wish they’d stop with the notebooks/pillow cases etc. It adds no value to this for me, I’d rather have even $1 off.

I just received my 2nd summer box that I did not want. My card was charged for the 2nd box without my permission and I have messaged them 3 times already with no response. I’m thinking about canceling. This box was just a mess thrown together anyway.

Do people really spend $50 on a candle?

Bath and Body works had $10 off their candles ($14.50) plus an additional 20% off. I received 4 candles and 4 car fresheners for $62. I can’t imagine what they could put in a candle to make it worth $50… Gold flakes or something. LOL

Agree, Bath and Body works much better candles, way too expensive for a poor product. .all show but poor quality candles.

It’s better ingredients (kind of like expensive perfumes vs cheap perfumes). Also the containers are typically better quality.

I like how the containers are so pretty you can reuse them to hold pens or to put a little cactus or succulent.

This box seems right up my alley, but $85 for four candles (counting the diffuser as a candle) and some accessories seems excessive! Idk if I am just cheap, but you can get some pretty nice candles for a lot less than $20 each!

They also have a $50 a quarter option if that helps! 🙂

Thanks liz!

Hey Liz! The big 13.5 oz Fireside Embers Candle is $85. It was on the website when my box arrived. Not sure why it’s not now but I looked it up 😊
