FanMail "Reigning Royals" June 2018 Review

Just a heads up, we got this box on July 10th, though it's technically the June box.

Here's the info booklet for the box. I like how they include release dates of recommended comics, movies, and more!

Exclusive Tangled Lantern Festival Tote Bag

I knew right away that this bag was a Tangled reference! I love that movie! The glowy lanterns make for a pretty, abstract pattern around the sides of this zip-shut tote. The rope handles are something a little out of the ordinary for subscription box totes—I'm used to getting simple canvas totes, so this style seems really sophisticated! It's just big enough for me to wedge my MacBook Air inside, but I think I'd most likely use it for small grocery trips or bookstore visits.

Exclusive Anastasia Together in Paris Music Box Key Necklace

Anastasia was always a favorite of mine growing up. (For a cartoon character, that Dimitri was, like, VERY handsome, right?!) This enamel pendant mirrors the design of Anna's music box. It's one of those designs that I could wear with an everyday outfit and no one would even notice it was a fan item. But what a cool feeling if/when someone recognizes it!

Exclusive Black Panther Princess Shuri Inspired Mousepad

Black Panther was sooooooo gooooooood. I was worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, and then there I was, cheering and squealing along with my friends watching the movie. Shuri is probably my favorite character, so I liked that this armor-patterned mousepad was inspired by her. Apart from the design, there's nothing too special about this mousepad, but I do like the colors.

Star Wars I Am a Princess Little Golden Book - Retail Value $4.99 (Found here for $3.99)

It's a little odd to get a children's book in this box, though I bet this would be great if you have a kiddo in your life who you could give it to! This book tells the story of Princess Leia while peppering in affirming, inspiring lines like "I am a princess. I lead others and keep them safe," or "A princess must stand up to her enemies no matter how big and mean they are."

The Verdict: The booklet includes the Fatal Throne interview as one of the "items" in the box, but it feels like something that would be considered a bit of promotional ephemera in any other box. I was impressed by the quality of the tote, and I really liked the necklace and mousepad. I do feel like the princess book skewed a little too young for this box (which feels like it's best geared towards YA audiences), but I'll hang on to it and give it as a gift in the future.

What a let down. This is basically a Disney box. I wouldn’t be happy had I received this at all. Nothing screams royal or adult to me.
