Kawaii Box June 2018 Review
This box always includes a little booklet detailing the items and also reveals the theme for the month. This booklet is designed differently than in months past – it looks really nice! This month’s box theme is “Kawaii Summer!”
Panda Bento Rice Mold
This box has been sending a lot of neat DIY kits lately, and I love that this one involves food. Bento box lunches have been so popular in the last few years, and I can’t think of anything more Instagram-worthy than making up some rice and turning it into nori-accented pandas! Sometimes there’s a bit of a learning curve with these kits because the information and directions aren’t in English, but thankfully this kit is pretty self-explanatory and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of opportunity for error. The rice gets loaded into either side of the pink mold, then fitted together with the handle, and the sheet of nori goes on top of the red silicone mat, using the white piece kind of like a cookie cutter to get the pieces out!
Kawaii Drinking Straw Pen
This month’s pen totally fooled me at first - I spent at least thirty seconds trying to figure out how this “straw” worked! As always, the writing quality and color of this pen are top-notch, and the teeny tiny little donut accent is the cutest thing ever. This fits perfectly in the mug where I usually store my pens in my home office - I just hope it doesn’t fool my husband, too!
Salmon Sushi Boy Squishy
I am obsessed with all things sushi: I have sushi slippers, a sushi zip drive, and of course, I go out to eat it every chance I can! This month’s squishy delighted me to no end - I love the bright color and the design is adorable. And how cute is this packaging? I kind of want to keep this bag because it really completes the whole look, don’t you think?
Kawaii Hamster Soft Bag Charm
The charm game from this box is always so strong, and I really love this adorable pink offering! The material on this is neat; sometimes these are made of plush, but I like the textured nylon of this keychain, and the stuffing inside offers just the right amount of squish!
Neko Ears Soft Headband
When I was little, my mom always had a terry cloth headband that she used when doing her nighttime skin care routine, and it always seemed so cool and grown-up. It’s like this box took that concept and Kawaii-fied it! This is softer than terry, more like plush, but it’s nice and tight across my forehead, so I’ll be able to use it for the same purpose.
Sumikko Gurashi Deco Stickers
They mixed up the sticker offering this month, and I really like the larger sizes of these! These characters are from the Sumikko Gurashi line, and their characters are supposed to be more on the shy side. I think these would look so cute decorating a notebook cover or a folder!
Moomin Memo Pad Set
I’d never heard of the Moomin trolls before receiving this box, and I really love the variety of characters on these notepads, and I love that there’s so many! I’m not an exceptionally organized person, but I’ve learned to hack my own brain, so I leave notepads everywhere; in my car, on my nightstand, at my desk, etc, so I can constantly leave myself notes and reminders. These are totally perfect!
Cute Bunny Drink Coaster
I have to be totally honest with you all, when I found this in the box, I had NO idea what this was, other than cute! Oops. That being said, once I found out it was a coaster, I immediately and successfully put it to the test! I tasked this li’l guy with shielding my desk from my daily iced coffee, and it did a great job. The silicone is sturdy and kept my glass from slipping around while protecting the wooden surface of my desktop.
Hello Kitty Strawberry Marshmallows
I thought we’d end this box on a sweet note! There is just something amazing about the type of marshmallow found in Japanese candy. It’s light, fluffy, and totally heavenly! I haven’t had a variety with fruit filling, but this was fantastic - not too sweet, and didn’t taste fake.
Precure Grape Gummies
I’m not much of an American gummy candy kind of person, but I really enjoyed these! The smell of grape immediately hit as soon as I opened the package, but like most Japanese candy, and like the other candy this month, it’s not overly sweet or fake-tasting. This flavor was strong but really enjoyable.
Verdict: This month’s Kawaii Box was so festive! Even though the items were small, I thought they fit the theme pretty nicely and will also be really useful in the coming months. I already love the coaster for iced coffee, and this month’s straw pen was super-adorable! The headband was an awesome Kawaii-esque surprise, and the sushi squishy this month was such a perfect item for me. It’s so funny how much these items can make me smile and be enjoyed all month long.
