New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a digital subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general, the value is usually great.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: New Beauty Test Tube

The Cost: $29.95 a box plus $8.95 shipping (ships every other month)

The Products: Deluxe and full-size beauty products. (This subscription also includes a subscription to New Beauty Magazine).

Ships to: US only

Check out all my New Beauty Test Tube reviews, and the Beauty Subscription Box List!

Each box comes with a booklet that details every item included.

Now, on to the items!

Briogeo Scalp Revival Cooling Jelly Conditioner – FULL SIZE! Retail Value $36

I really like that the Briogeo brand is ingredient conscious, but I seem to have a 50% success rate with their products. And I think this conditioner falls into the fail category. You use this like a regular conditioner, but you apply from scalp to ends, and massage into your scalp for 15-20 seconds. The massage part was great. The peppermint is refreshing, and my scalp still is feeling the cooling sensation post-shower.

The downside for me? It didn’t leave my hair feeling hydrated. I ended up applying a conditioning balm almost immediately after my shower because I was hating how dry my hair was feeling.

VMV Hypoallergenics Hydra Balance Gentle Cream Cleanser - 1 oz Value $6

This is an ingredient-conscious, fragrance-free, creamy cleanser. The formula did a pretty good job of removing all makeup, it was gentle, and it didn't dry out my skin. I'm a fan!

Georgette Klinger Vitamin C Toner - 50 ml Retail Value $12

This paraben-free toner is designed to help brighten skin and improve discoloration. It does have added fragrance, but the scent is light and doesn't bother me. The toner didn't irritate my skin (which is especially good since this is the type of toner you don't have to rinse off.) No noticeable differences after one use, but this bottle should last me weeks so hopefully I'll see a difference before it is empty!

Epionce Renewal Facial Lotion - 15 ml Value $28.20

Another paraben-free, ingredient-conscious skincare item!

This lotion is one of my favorite items in the box! It has a light, natural citrus scent, and it is SO hydrating! And long term, it's designed to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

LaRitzy Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Whip - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $20

(Colors will vary for subscribers.)

LaRitzy is one of those makeup brands that seems to be popping up in a ton of subscription boxes lately. (It's giving me some Manna Kadar vibes.) Their products are paraben-free and work well, but I'm just a little worried about them overdoing it!

This liquid lipstick is a great color for me (a little warmer than my go-to Stila Patina shade), and it has impressive pigment and staying power.

(Swatched in lower photo.)

Skinn Cosmetics Luxe Premier Eyeshadows Collagen Boost Treatment Shadow Collection - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $32

(All subscribers will receive this Fairy Tale color version.)

This palette includes a mix of matte and satin finish shadows:

The pigment is good throughout, but there was significant fallout, so I recommend using primer with these.

Here are the shades swatched beneath the liquid lipstick:

True Moringa Pure Moringa Simplicity Facial Oil Rollerball – 5 ml Value $17

This is just pure Cold Pressed Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil. It’s a lightweight oil, and the rollerball application makes it easy to apply under eyes or to target lines and wrinkles.

Youtheory Collagen Advanced Formula - 42 Tablets Value $3.93

These tablets include 100% daily value of Vitamin C in addition to the collagen.

I've been taking collagen supplements for the past year or so and I think they are helping? (My husband Eric also takes collagen powder, and he can tell a difference in his joints.)The tablets are pretty big, and you have to take 6 a day, so I wasn't a huge fan. (I'll stick to my powder collagen in my breakfast smoothie!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $155.13. That's a good value compared to the $38.90 cost, and I'll use almost everything in this box, so I'm happy with the value. This isn't my favorite New Beauty Test Tube, (some of these brands included are more exciting than others), but it's a good box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your next box may be July or September. Make sure to email [email protected] before you order to confirm which box will be your first shipment.

Value Breakdown: At $38.90 a box, here is what you are paying per item:

  • Briogeo: $9.03
  • VMV Cleanser: $1.50
  • Toner: $3.01
  • Epionce Lotion: $7.07
  • Larity Liquid Lipstick: $5.02
  • Skinn Eye Shadow Palette: $8.02
  • True Moringa: $4.26
  • Collagen Tablets: $.99

I subscribed to NBTT a few years ago and stopped after one box was all one brand of skincare and no makeup, tools, etc. I have been reading reviews today and it seems like most of the boxes are non-makeup now. Could someone tell me if this is correct? I’m interested in a box that has a combination of products but definitely would like some makeup in every box. (I love my Sephora box with its high end products!) Thank you!

Yes, that is the reason that I myself don’t subscribe to TestTube continuously and only buy single boxes that I am interested in occasionally. This one was makeup-heavy, for them.

I wouldn’t say that most boxes in general are non-makeup, though. You could try Allure or Macy’s that both have some mix of skincare and makeup (and Allure has hair products occasionally). Boxycharm is pretty much only makeup and brushes.

There are also Lola and Yes Oh Yas boxes, but I think those are mostly off brands.

And then there is Glossybox that normally offers a mix, but consistency in quality is a problem for me, so I don’t subscribe. YMMV

Is there any other cost with test tube?

Well the robots are not happy with my post which I tried repeatedly to submit. So I’ll just say that applying the Georgette Klinger toner seven times (or other quality ones Anna uses), your skin will begin to glow. Of course applying a vitamin C toner repeatedly is not a good idea, it was just a suggestion ;\

My reply did not post so I assume it was a little off topic! Anna, you are using some quality toners! I apply exfoliating toners like Pixi or this Georgette Klinger Vitamin C toner first and then on to the hydrating toners. The seven skin leaves your skin glowing as you are adding layer after layer of hydration. Lawden, give the multi toner application a try, for me at 62 this has been a game changer!

Anna

Thanks for the reply, I read that you can apply essences this way too but haven’t tried it yet.

Off topic Liz but does your husband feel improvement using collagen for his joints? I have awful pain and am looking for something to supplement my meds that I take. Willing to try anything at this point 😪. Any help in the right direction is appreciated

Lilah

Hi Denise, I recently discovered Black Seed oil and it’s done a great job of relieving the pain in my joints. I hope you feel better.

Denise

Ok great thank you lilah and Liz for the reply 👍🏼 At this point body comes before skin to me. And if the pain stops I wouldn’t be getting so many frown lines so I guess it would help in that respect also. I never thought what I considered skincare supplements could be useful for more than skincare. That’s a two-fer 👍🏼👍🏼

Liz Cadman

Yes. He can notice a difference in his joints if he stops taking it. I personally haven’t noticed any physical difference, but I’m hoping it’s still a boost for my skin longterm!

I don’t know how to post a comment the correct way, I couldn’t find it, so sorry I’m replying to you! I’m also a late subbie but really cool reviews! I would love to try the la mer and sk cream along with the mascara! I’ve never ever got a subscription box, but you made me want to try some now! I’m just bummed im unable to try this one unless I win. I hope I do, have never won anything either! I’m such a newbie 😕

Yes Liz, I am seeing wonderful results and beginning to see that “glass skin” that is talked about so much. I am 62 now and after years of sun abuse I started serious skincare 15 years ago, but in two months of this method my skin is glowing!! At my age you just don’t want that matte look which can magnify creases and crevices. The only thing I add is a vitamin C serum and other actives, add sunscreen and seal it with a moisturizer! It’s all about hydration and I believe serious skincare should begin in one’s teens or earlier with sunscreen being the primary product! But of course I am preaching to the choir. Give it a try. 🙂 Oh and Beautyfix is also a box I love as every item gets used up by me!

This was my first box from New Beauty Test Tube. I had hoped to receive the previous one but was too late. Overall I am quite happy with the products and am using them all except the palette which I have put up for swap (not much of a makeup person). I have always wanted to try collagen supplements so this was an opportunity, and can always do with a cleanser. The moringa oil I roll around my eye area, which is cooling and hydrating, so this has now been designated as an eye oil!. The Laritzy lipstick is in a Coral Pink so gives just enough gentle color; oh and I love the facial lotion, it is so light but hydrating. I have yet to try the conditioner but I am eager to as I have thick, tangle prone, graying hair. Hopefully this may tame it. I’ll take as many toners as I can get, due to the seven skin Korean method. I like to use seven different toners in order of viscosity. Well, that’s it, a very useful box (tube) of products! I hope you enjoy the products as much as I do. 🙂

I really enjoyed reading your review of the box (and Liz’s too!). 🙂 I re-subbed a little late, so I should be getting my box tomorrow, and I can’t wait! The eyeshadow will be gifted, but I’m really looking forward to trying everything else. I’m most looking forward to trying the conditioner as I’ve loved all Briogio products I’ve tried so far.

Thanks, Luna, I appreciate you taking the time to read it, and Liz’s review of course!

Glad to hear you are happy with the box! And wow – 7 toners? Are you seeing results with the method? I’m super curious!

I posted a reply to your question, Liz but do not see it. Let me know if it posts or not. Thanks.

Ah, that’s too bad about the eyeshadow palette. Although I do think the colors are pretty, and very wearable for daytime.
