Modern Love Box is a subscription box curated for couples. Each box aims to help long-term relationships nix boredom and keep that intimate, romantic spark alive.
(FYI – not all the contents of the box are suitable for viewing at work. Some are adult products. Just a heads up!)
They describe their expert-curated boxes as "monthly boxes of luxury items and activities meant to enhance meaningful experiences and promote overall relationship success." The activities and items are all purposefully gender non-specific—all couples can enjoy this inclusive box all the same!
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Modern Love Box "Alter Ego" Summer 2018 Review
The last few boxes I've received leaned more on the sexy side of things. Be advised that this box (and thus, this review) will talk a bit about products intended for use in the bedroom!
Set of 2 Herb & Lou's Infused Cubes in The Cecile, 0.85 fl. oz. each - Buy 12 for $17.99 here
I love this clever idea for cocktail making! Each of these ice-cube-sized packs is filled with ingredients to make one serving of The Cecile—a watermelon-cucumber margarita with clover honey and thyme. Just freeze the cubes, then drop one into a shot's worth of your preferred tequila. (Vodka works, too, they say.) If you're not a drinker, I feel like there may still be merit to dropping these cubes into water or maybe even some mild iced tea for an extra kick of flavor!
Each box includes a communication activity that's aimed at helping you and your partner get closer. According to the booklet, these exercises are supposed to be answered in character—part of the date is making up sultry new identities to play out together. This one was a little goofy for us to do in character, but I can say that running through the questions as real people is really rewarding! The questions touch on things like confidence, vices, and self-expression in clever, roundabout ways. At first, I thought some of these questions might be a little wild, but there's some real value in chatting through these things. You learn a lot about what your partner finds important, is intimidated by, and even a bit about what they're ashamed to embrace about themselves. It's nice to share those things so you can help encourage each other and make space for one another's interests.
There's also a guessing game, which is kind of like a Newlywed game but just between you and your partner. There's plenty to learn about but also laugh about in these questions and answers!
Bijoux Indiscrets Flash Nipple Pasties in Silver Hearts - Retail Value $13.00
Whoa! This little item will add a little flair to that role-playing activity. These pasties toe the line between sassy and cute, with their heart shape and glitter finish. The adhesive backing is gentle but sturdy enough to keep them on once you pat 'em down on your skin.

Exsens Glam Oil Dry Glittering Oil for Body and Hair, 1.7 fl. oz. - Retail Value $18.39
I was confused by the concept of a "dry oil" at first, but the description is accurate! This formula contains just enough sweet almond oil to smoothly distribute onto your skin, but it rubs in and dries quickly, leaving behind a golden shimmer. I know this product is intended for this couples activity, but I might steal it for adding some fun sparkle to a gal's night out get up!
Two Polka Dot Journals
This subscription really encourages journaling, whether you share what you've written with your partner or keep it to yourself. It's a great way to reflect on what you've learned and how you're feeling about each activity.
The Verdict: As always, I think the communication exercises that we get through this subscription are the most valuable part of each box. They get my partner and I talking about things he and I might not otherwise get around to sharing, and because it's surrounded by other fun (if kinda quirky) activities, the communication activity feels loose and comfortable. The one thing I noticed about this box is that the products inside seem to lean more feminine—being that one of the selling points of the box is that it's inclusive to couples of all gender combinations, I might've expected some other "dress up" items that were a bit more masculine, or at least unisex, in addition to the pasties or the gold oil. Maybe a pair of cool sunglasses or a mask or something? That's mostly because my personal style isn't typically that glamorous and glitzy, so the items in the box were a little beyond my usual comfort zone.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, though you can buy it as a one-time purchase here. Sign up now for the summer box!
Value Breakdown: This box cost $54.00. The two items I could find individual retail values for added up to $31.39, leaving $22.61 worth of value left to be covered by the journals, cocktail cubes, and the more intangible value of the activities, curation, etc.
