Quirky Crate July 2018 Box Review
It's Quirky Crate's birthday this month! Most boxes include info on a featured artist, but this month, that artist is Anna Bond from Rifle Paper Co.
Rifle Paper Company Enamel Pin - Retail Value $8.00
I love this encouraging little strong woman! I also personally love that she looks a bit like me (certainly not in terms of muscle tone, but in the light skin, dark hair, and pension for stripes). I'm totally keeping this cutie for myself as a reminder of my own strength, but she'd also make a great congratulatory gift for a friend!
Born to Sparkle Necklace - Listed Value $15.00
This necklace is pretty simple, but I do like it regardless. The stone is filled with glitter, so it has a bit of pop, despite its small size. I'd probably layer it up with other small gold necklaces. One quick note—the chain was detached from the one side of the pendant when I picked the necklace out of the box. It was easy enough to fix, but just FYI that this is around the quality I'd expect from a mall accessories store. It's not bad, but it's not upscale either.
Pineapple of My Eye Purse - Listed Value $22.00
This clear plastic purse reminds me of things I would've worn on vacations on my 90s/00s elementary and middle school years. It's a really cute shape for summer and practical, given how water-resistant it is. But the quality of this item isn't quite where I'd want it to be. The yellow body of the bag is fine, but I noticed some areas of the printed-on pineapple stripes that are starting to wear off and the green leafy part is peeling around the edges.
Poodle Embroidered Socks - Listed Value $7.00
Eeee! I love this cutie poodle face! It's got such a sweet expression, haha! The pink color is really cute peeking out from Mary Janes or even simple sandals. (Gotta love that the socks and sandals look is back in style!)
Cactus Pen - Listed Value $3.00
Lots of novelty pens I get have some kind of quirky topper and that's it. This cactus pen keeps up its gimmick all the way down to the nib! The pen isn't uncomfortable to write with even given the ripples going down it. The nib has a nice scratch to it, and the plump little topper looks so charming sitting in my pen cup.
Pool 5" x 7" Art Print - Listed Value $12.00
Oooo this print makes me want to dive into a sun-drenched pool. I like how it's packaged—it's not just a card thrown into the box, but a true print packaged in a sleeve with a cardboard backing. I like how graphic it is. I could see hanging this in my apartment as a little moment of vacation escapism to turn to on drab days.
Panda Patch - Listed Value $5.00
Awww, how sweet! I totally wouldn't have expected a panda in this summery box, but I think its face is so adorable! It's got some adhesive on the back so it's easy to iron on to a jacket or bag.
Waterproof Whale Pouch - Listed Value $10.00
I've been thinking of buying one of these waterproof phone pouches for trips to the amusement park or the beach. (A klutzy person like me can never be too careful!) The colors are fun, plus, I love anything with whales on them. But it's also pretty darn practical. I don't know if the seal is perfectly 100% waterproof, but it seems darn near close. There are little tabs that you switch closed in order to smush the sides of the plastic bag together. It's a very solid-looking seal! Would I dunk this whole thing underwater? Eh, I might not risk that. But if I involuntarily dropped this bag with my phone in it into a puddle, I have a good feeling my phone would have a great chance of coming out unscathed.
Pineapple Disco Cup - Listed Value $12.00
Quality-wise, this cup feels like the kind of thing I'd find in a set at a party store. It's super cute and festive thanks to its disco ball design. I'd feel like the hostess with the mostess walking around a summer picnic sipping on this shimmering drink container! It even comes with a green straw that pokes up through the leafy lid.
The Verdict: The pure glee I feel opening this box each month is invaluable, but I will say that the quality of this month's items felt a little more discount store than I would've liked. The designs themselves totally delivered on the quirky brand and captured the fun of the summer. I'm also SO happy with the artist pin—I love Rifle Paper Company stationery and now I'm swooning over their pins!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order soon to get the August box! Order by the 13th of the month to get that month's box. Boxes ship of the 15th of each month.
Value Breakdown: This box cost $40.94 (price + US shipping) and has an estimated value of $94.00 using the values listed on the info card. That means that the average price per item is $4.55.
