Special Delivery From Taste of Home Summer 2018 Review
Inside you will find an information card with a special note from the Taste of Home Test Kitchen. This month's note is all about the summer season and everything that comes along with it! On the back, you will find a detailed list of each product featured in the box.
Let's take a look at what is inside!
Taste of Home Appetizers & Small Plates - Retail Value $12.99 (found here for $11.66)
This little cookbook is filled with 201 appetizer and small plate recipes! I love that this came as a spiral bound hardcover. It makes flipping through to read super easy and it stays open easily while I am cooking. Finger foods are always what I struggle with when we have guests over or are throwing a party of some sort. After looking through this book, I already have some ideas for our next picnic that we are hosting! This is going to be a cookbook that I will use for years to come.
Taste of Home Happy Hour - Retail Value $12.99
I am not a big cocktail drinker, but these drinks are all making me thirsty! I also love that they list how you can turn each drink into a mocktail, something I can really appreciate since I am currently pregnant. This is another hardcover spiral bound book that is super easy to look through. There is even a spot for you to write notes for each cocktail if you want! My husband loves making cocktails so I am going to be passing this along to his bar cart, but I am going to use it for the munchie recipes inside as well. Such a fun book for us to share!
Handy Helpers Cheese Knife Set - Retail Value $75.61 (found here for $54.98)
I have received so many cheese knife sets over the years from being engaged to our wedding that I wasn't super excited to see this set. However, once I opened it and saw the quality I was really excited! We are big fans of a quality meat and cheese tray even in the summer, so this colorful set is perfect to use for an outdoor party. The handles are very heavy but have a grip so it won't go flying out of your hand. This would also make an incredible gift for any cheese lover if you find you just don't need another knife set on hand.
NOD Pineapple Glass Markers - Retail Value $5.99
I tend to buy glass markers around the holidays when we are having guests over, and then I never remember to put them out. I love this bold little set though and how great they are for a summer picnic. They are rubber and stick to the side of your glass nicely. I am planning on using these for our next friend gathering, but I know that I could always gift these to my Mom as well who loves a festive glass marker to have on hand!
Rockz Lemon Drop Sugar, 5 oz. - Retail Value $5.25
This lemon drop sugar is meant to be used on a cocktail or margarita. I love how bright and bold it is! I am assuming that this is best used for a lemon drop drink specifically, but I am sure you could imagine up other drinks to use it for as well. Again, I am not a huge cocktail drinker, even though a lemon drop does sound refreshing! I think I am going to gift this to my parents who are more versed in the art of cocktail making and do a bit more entertaining where they would get more use out of this fun bag of sugar.
Barfly Wooden Drink Muddler - Retail Value $6.09
This wooden muddler is perfect to use for an individual drink or a pitcher! You can quickly mash and stir any ingredients to bring out all of the yummy flavors in any cocktail. I am thinking this would be great when making mojitos! This went straight to my husband's bar cart for him to use when mixing up something delicious!
Tovolo Small Pastry Brush, 7 inch - Retail Value $4.99
This brush is heat resistant so it is great to use when adding butter, sauces, or any kind of marinade while you are cooking. My Dad uses something similar, on a much larger scale, for when he is smoking some barbeque and needs to add a marinade. You could even use this to drizzle butter or a frosting over a fresh pastry just out of the oven. This is something that I don't already own so I was excited to receive it, and will hopefully be able to bring it into my cooking routine!
Reuse-a-Pop Popsicle Bags, Set of 12 - Retail Value $6.98
My husband has been wanting to make homemade popsicles for our son lately so these arrived at the perfect time! I love that they are reusable bags as well. They even allow you to mark the date and flavor so you can easily decide which popsicle you want to reach for in the freezer. The box comes as a set of 12 so there are plenty to experiment with unique flavors or to stick with something tried and true for your little one! We can't wait to try these out, especially since this summer has been so hot and we are always reaching for popsicles it seems.
Simply Baked Food Flags - Retail Value $11.85
I love a good food flag! We used to be vegetarian and I always relied on food flags when hosting or as a guest at a party. They are also just a fun way to let your guests know what everything is, especially if someone has a food allergy. Some of my son's friends have food allergies so we can use these at his birthday parties to make notes like "contains peanuts." They are also very cute and dress up any plate of food!
Special Delivery from Taste of Home Recipe Cards
Each quarter you will also receive an envelope of seasonal recipe cards! I received a total of six this month, all with fresh recipes for the summer. You can also use some of the items that were in this month's box to cook each recipe. Each recipe ranged from difficult to easy so you can always pass along any that you decide aren't for you and keep any that you love or want to test.
Verdict: Special Delivery from Taste of Home summer box was a huge hit in my house! The overall curation of products was excellent and really gave me those summer vibes. Everything is perfect for entertaining at your house for a picnic or to use at your next beach vacation. Plus, I got two amazing spiral bound cookbooks that I am going to have around for years! I received a total retail value of $142.74, at $44.95 a month for this box ($39.95 plus $5.00 shipping) that is an incredible value! I would recommend this box to any young couple or host that loves receiving new gadgets for entertaining and cooking.
