Try the World June 2018 - card Try the World June 2018 - card back Try the World June 2018 - coupon

This month I received a welcome card, unlike the fold-outs they used to include that provided detailed product information. Along with that I also received a coupon code for nakedwines.com

Try the World June 2018 - green tea energy

Scheckter's Organic Energy Drink in Green Tea Mint, 8.4 fl oz. x 2 - Buy a pack of 12 for $27.99

These jumbo drinks are filled with sparkling, organic green tea that has a hint of mint flavor to it. I am currently pregnant so energy drinks are a pass for me, but I gave these to my husband who loves green tea! He said that the mint provided you with this burst of freshness while the green tea was very refreshing. He did feel a boost of energy like you would with a cup of coffee, but nothing that gave him the jitters like some energy drinks.

Try the World June 2018 - mulberries Try the World June 2018 - mulberries open

Sunny Fruit Organic Mulberries, 1.06 oz. x 2 - Buy 2, 5.3 oz. bags for $15.99

I have never tried mulberries before and was sort of surprised by how these looked when I first opened the bag. They really are a dried mulberry, some even still have a little stem on them! This little snack is a great source of fiber and has no added sugars. I was surprised to find that each bite was lightly crunchy. They are also naturally sweet and have a similar flavor/texture to a fig. A very interesting snack that I probably would have never purchased on my own.

Try the World June 2018 - olive oil

Oleum Hispania Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 4.25 oz.Buy 250 ml for $3.51 USD (€3)

This Spanish olive oil comes from a family-owned business that is looking to create some of the best olive oil around the world. I was so excited to try this little bottle, as I use a lot of olive oil in my every day cooking. This works really well to cook with, I especially loved the spiciness that it brought out in some roasted brussel sprouts I just made. I also used this drizzled over a salad with some lemon juice and was surprised to taste a light sweetness. Overall, this is a bold and very rich olive oil that is going to last me through many dishes to come!

Try the World June 2018 - salt flakes

Try the World June 2018 - salt flakes open

Murray River Gourmet Salt Flakes, 1.76 oz. - Buy a 5.25 oz. bag for $16.90

This sea salt comes to us from Australia and is harvested underground from saline water. If you look very closely you can see light pink hues on each flake! The flakes are larger than your average table salt so a little will take you a long way. My husband has been using this almost every night recently when he helps me cook dinner, and I must say it has been a delicious add-on to so many dishes that just need that extra something special.

Try the World June 2018 - spice Try the World June 2018 - spice open

Basak Sumac Spice Pack, 0.88 oz.

Since there wasn't any information about this little spice packet, I did some good old-fashioned googling! It turns out Sumac has a strong lemon flavor to it with a light tartness. It is most often used in Meditteranean and Middle Eastern cooking. Some recipes that I found that included Sumac were for seasoning fish, meats, salads, or even sprinkling over hummus. I can't wait to start incorporating this spice blend into some of my favorite dishes this summer!

Try the World June 2018 - swish Try the World June 2018 - swish open

Swish Fresh Breath Powder - Buy a 30 stick pack for $9.99

This breath freshening powder is very interesting! You don't need to use water or anything, just swish in your mouth at least three times a day for incredibly fresh breath. All you have to do is pour the powder into your tongue, move around in your mouth for 10 seconds, and then swallow. Honestly, this powder wasn't my favorite way to freshen my breath. I found the texture to be a bit odd and I didn't love swallowing it all after swishing it around. My husband, however, thought this was an incredible and easy way to freshen his breath without chewing on gum all day! So I decided to pass these on to him.

Verdict: The first thing I missed this month was the standard information booklet that highlights each of the products featured. I loved looking through the booklet and reading a bit more about each brand, it allowed me to feel a bit more connected to each item. Since this is the countries box, I would love to at least know what area of the world each item came from as well so I guess I felt a bit disconnected from the overall curation this month. While I enjoyed each of the products, I felt a bit lost going through everything. The olive oil and salt flakes are cooking products that we are currently loving and using almost every day! While the other products were unique, I am having a hard time seeing the value that this month brought since the six items I received break down to around $6.50 per item with the box being $39 a month. Hopefully, next month will bring a new curation that provides a bit more quality and diversity within the products featured.

To Wrap Up:

I miss the Hamptons Lane boxes from before they got bought out/sold to Try the World. I have received more than a few boxes from this sub (TTW) and they have consistently sent me expired or nearly expired products (less than 30 days) and seem to have no curation or theme. Very disappointing for the cost, I could just go to World Market and ship for what I actually want.

This sub is going downhill fast. This box no longer concentrates on one country or region and curates a cohesive box. This looks like a walk around cost plus tossing items into a shopping cart. Nothing screams try me I’m the best thing my country has to offer.
