Box of Happies July 2018 Review
If you like jewelry that’s generally delicate and handmade items from Etsy and similar artisans, Box of Happies delivers those things every month. The items are also usually packaged nicely for gifting if something isn’t to your taste:
You’ll usually get a little card with basic information about the items as well as a Box of Happies business card.
Box of Happies Bookmark – Listed Value $7
I am really bad about bending pages in books. Perhaps this will help me to break the habit? I have had a goal this year of just reading the books on my shelves (well, and on my Kindle) that I purchased and hadn’t gotten around to. The only time I have is in the morning while I am using sheet masks from subscription boxes, so a bookmark is handy to have because I’m not getting through too many pages at once.
Box of Happies Earrings – Listed Value $10
This is as good a time as any to mention that this is a jewelry-heavy subscription. I am not sure what material these posts are made of but they work well enough coated with clear nail polish. (The earrings you get are always pierced.) My taste tends towards more delicate, smaller jewelry so these are a good fit. You will get both goldtone and silvertone and occasionally other metal finishes with this subscription.
Chic-Elastic Tassel Bracelets/Hair Ties – Listed Value $1.95
I didn’t find this particular style at the URL given on the information card. If you’ve ever wanted something personalized printed on hair ties, though, they do offer that service. These make cute, causal bracelets for someone with a smaller wrist (mine are 5.25 inches in circumference) but I think they might feel like they’re cutting off your circulation if your wrists are much larger than mine. They will still work as hair ties in that case, however.
Box of Happies Necklace – Listed Value $15
This is right up my alley. I love the cloverleaf shape in jewelry. It reminds me of all the Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry with the Alhambra motif advertised in the New York Times that I will never be able to afford.
Essential Pug Hugs Snap Pouch – Listed Value $5
It was a little hard to tell from the photos, but I’m not sure I found this exact item in the Essential Pug Hugs Etsy shop, so I just linked to the shop so you can browse if you need an item like this. (It might be this one.) If you are going somewhere that doesn’t allow you to take a large purse, this is big enough for an ID and credit card. I can see myself carrying extra dog waste bags in it while walking Nyx, and maybe attaching it to a wrist strap or something, just so my hands are free.
Pretty Fizzy Bombs Shower Steamer – Listed Value $3
The web address on the information card didn’t work, but I found this seller on Etsy. The shower steamers don’t seem to be available in their Etsy shop, but they do have lots of fun bath and body items to check out. This smells like honeysuckle for sure (we have some growing in the backyard so I am very familiar with the scent). It would never have occurred to me to have a shower steamer with a scent other than menthol and eucalyptus (for clearing the sinuses) but for aromatherapy purposes, this was nice.
Verdict: I didn’t calculate a value for the July 2018 Box of Happies since I had to take almost every value from the information card. There were six items, so you are paying about $5 each, which I think is a pretty good deal, as most of the items had listed values well above that. This was a more varied month than you sometimes see. I learned about a couple of smaller, indie producers, which is always fun (Etsy is so overwhelming, you know?), and I received some useful, practical items, too. Plus, the items are generally packaged for gifting if you find that something is not to your taste.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you subscribe today? No, your first box would be August's. Sometimes past boxes or past box items go on sale in their shop, though.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $29.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 6 items in the box has an average cost of $5.
