Degustabox August 2018 Review
Degustabox always has a really nice info sheet that goes over each item included in the box with their retail values. This month's theme is all about Camping!
The content on the other side changes every month but this time there's a crossword puzzle with a small mention of their birthday. Happy 2 Year Birthday, Degustabox! To celebrate, they are giving away 2 free boxes to two winners and all you have to do to enter is to comment on any of their upcoming Facebook or Instagram posts in August!
Wise Snacks Bravos Stadium Nacho Tortilla Chips, 1.25 oz x2 - Buy a 9 oz bag for $2.49
Whoa- these really taste like stadium nachos! The cheese flavor and tony hint of jalapeno are the most prominent and take me back to watching the Pittsburgh Penguins play at the Igloo. These are pretty tasty alone, but would be even better dunked in salsa!
Post Frosted Chocolate Strawberry Shredded Wheat, 15 oz - Retail Value $2.88
I really like Frosted Shredded Wheat but there is a LOT going on with these. The shredded wheat is chocolate, they're coated in strawberry flavored frosting, AND they are also filled with chocolate chips. They are very tasty, but I think I'd prefer to keep my cereal a little more on the basic side.
Sahale Snacks Maple Pecans, 1.5 oz. - Buy 6, 4 oz. packs for $31.38
I'm not the biggest fan of maple, but these are really tasty. The mix contains pecans, walnuts, dried cherries, and dried apples, all drizzled in a maple glaze. The snack pack size is great for being on the go, whether it's at the airport or on a hike. These are a bit on the sweet side, so I recommend having a big bottle of water with you as well.
Amazon Pepper Sweet Chili Sauce, 5.2 oz. - Retail Value $4.99
So many sweet things so far in this box! This one is a bit different though since it also includes quite a bit of spice which makes it more palatable as a sauce. The sauce is a product of Colombia and happens to be all natural. The suggested use is using as a marinade for chicken, veggies, or seafood and says it's ideal for grilling. I can see this being excellent with shrimp, for sure!
PR Bar in Chocolate Peanut, 1.76 oz. - Buy a box of 12 for $23.88
This gluten-free "endurance bar" has 15 grams of protein and all-natural. Protein bars run the gamut of being delicious to inedible in my experience, and this one is on the delicious end. The peanut butter bar is really moist and flavorful and the chocolate is creamy and smooth.
The Good Crisp Company Original Potato Crisps, 5.6 oz. - Retail Value $4.09 (on sale for $3.42)
Right off the bat, these are much less salty than the similar chips that also come in a cylindrical tube. The all-natural and gluten-free ingredients include dried potatoes, palm oil, tapioca starch, salt, sugar, dextrose, and white pepper. Something about the texture of these reminds me of a larger version of my beloved Potato Skins. They are a bit hardy so they'd be a welcome snack on a road trip.
Ready Nutrition Pink Grapefruit Protein Water - Buy a case of 12 for $29.88
I kind of love getting drinks in this box because they are always new to me. Unfortunately for me, I hate stevia and this drink uses it as a sweetener. It also has whey protein in it which makes it not suitable for my vegan pals. That makes sense seeing as though it's a protein drink that is probably as close to water as you can get. I don't care for the flavor of this overall, but it's definitely not as heavy as drinking a shake.
Popcorn, Indiana Movie Theater Popcorn, 1.5 oz. - Buy a 5.5 oz bag for $2.68
I'm not sure what exactly makes this "movie theater" style, as it just sorta tastes like any old buttered popcorn to me. Maybe that's just it: the butter. This is tasty enough, I enjoy popcorn and this has enough salt and butter to keep me happy until I finish the bag.
Country Archer Jerky Co Pork Bar, 1.5 oz. - Retail Value $3.00
As far as pork jerky goes, this is just ok. It's fibrous and has a little sweet spice to it, but it doesn't leave me clamoring for more. Excellent edition for a camping theme though, just wish it were a larger bag instead of just one stick.
High Brew Coffee in Double Espresso, 8 oz. - Buy a 4 pack for $10.00
Sometimes I buy myself canned coffee like this as a little treat when I'm grocery shopping to enjoy the next morning. This one is a little misleading because it has milk in it, which can be tasty at the right time but the "double espresso" flavor doesn't really make that obvious. In addition to the milk, it contains sugar as well so it's on the sweet side. All in all, this is tasty but I may stick to the plain cold brew that I'm used to.
There's also a coupon for 50 cents off your next High Brew coffee.
Prince of Peace Ginger Chews, 4.4 oz. - Retail Value $4.15
I think ginger chews were my first introduction to ginger when I was young, but I didn't like them back then. Now that I've had raw ginger in a myriad of things, I love it but I've still steered clear of chews... UNTIL NOW. These spicy little candies are really tasty and the included lemon in this one makes it particularly enjoyable. It's almost like a yummy natural cough drop that I can eat when I'm not sick. Bonus: it's clearing my sinuses a bit.
Colombina Breakfast Biscuits, 5.71 oz. - Retail Value $3.99
I'm unsure on how to feel about these. They're not bad, but they aren't particularly exciting either. The biscuit itself is on the bland side, but the dried mixed berries kind of save them. They come 3 cookies to a pack, with 6 packs in the box so you can toss them in your bag on your way out the door if you skip breakfast like I do. These also weren't listed on the info sheet, so they may have been a bonus tossed in.
Finally, there is a coupon for a free tube of Tigertail mustard.
Verdict: This wasn't my favorite Degustabox, but I have faith that it will swing back in my favor soon. I normally prefer getting more pantry staples but with a camping-themed box, I understand all of these snackables that are packed with protein. It's just not really my thing. Not much in this box really wowed me, but my favorites are the potato crisps and ginger chews. Better luck next time?
