Face Mask Alchemy is a monthly DIY mask subscription that sends you everything you need to create a new at-home face mask experience. Hawaiian-born subscription box lover Marie began "hacking" face masks on YouTube and would look up all the ingredients to see if she could recreate it, and thus, FMA was born.
My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Face Mask Alchemy August 2018 Review
I was happy to see this sheet full of info come with my first Face Mask Alchemy delivery. It has an introduction from the founder, Marie, plus how she created the featured mask powder. I found this super interesting! There is also a breakdown of ingredients and usage for both the mask and cleanser as well as the address to the blog to learn even more.
Everything comes in a mesh pouch to keep it together.
Pau Hana Cleanser
First, there is a specially made cleanser each month. This one is an oil cleanser that rinses clean with water. The bottle is quite small but there are several helpings inside. While I don't normally jump at oil cleansers, I found this one to be really gentle and of course, it smells fantastic. It's made from several oils including kukui nut, hemp, castor, and camelia as well as carrot seed essential oil and organic sea buckthorn. I used it before making the mask to make sure my face was clean. Adding water to it on my face created a subtle "milk" as she calls it and it was really moisturizing as well.
Bamboo Spoon
You'll always receive a bamboo spoon in your package to get things stirred up!
Hawaiian Honey Stick
You will also find a Hawaiian honey stick in each one that you can choose to add to the mask!
Mochi Polish Dry Mask/Exfoliator
The last item is the most important: the dry mask powder! I love mochi so seeing it in mask form is pretty exciting. The cool thing is that it can be a mask or used as an exfoliant if you don't have the 15 minutes to spare. It contains organic adzuki beans, organic rice powder, organic green tea, organic hibiscus, and organic white tea. If you go to the blog, you'll find more detailed instructions on how to use it.
I followed the simple instructions to take a teaspoon of the powder into the palm of my hand and mix with about half as much water. This started to get a little messy and I immediately regretted not doing this in a small dish instead. Perhaps it is my small hands? I soldiered on and decided to add a bit more water because it seemed too dry and wasn't mixing easily. I then decided to add the suggested half teaspoon of honey and that really resolved the issue. It allowed everything to stick together and form a much better paste. I further added just a bit more water and was able to begin smearing what was now a coffee-brown gritty paste onto my face. It smelled so much like matcha powder which I adore and made me immediately love it. The honey also brought a familiar and pleasing scent to it as well. I could feel the grit gently scrub my face which made sense that it could be used as an exfoliator. Once I felt evenly coated, I set a timer for 10 minutes and texted my bestie a selfie, as I routinely do while wearing face masks. I could slowly feel it dry and get tighter on my face, as I am accustomed to.
Once the timer went off, I used a warm washcloth to wipe it off my face and then did some splashing to further remove any grit left over. I have to say, my face looked and felt like perfection! I felt so clean and my skin felt super glowing and taut like I was freshly born. There is also enough mochi polish for at least one more mask.
Verdict: My first experience with Face Mask Alchemy was amazing! Things I learned: I will make future masks in a dish instead of in my hand, and I will take some photos for you all because that makes so much more sense, right? I'm now really excited for future deliveries to see what Marie comes up with!
