World of Wizardry June 2018 Review
In each box from Geek Gear, you’ll find a handy booklet listing all of the products inside! In addition to the products, you will also find a clue for an item in next month’s box and a “Subscriber Spotlight” featuring a community member. I’m intrigued by next month’s clue: a fantastical beastie! What are you up to, World of Wizardry? It looks like this month’s box is chock-full of exclusives, so let’s start looking through everything!
Recipes: Jumper Cookies, Butterscotch Beer, Fantastic Bread
How tempting do this month’s recipes look this month? I love this awesome bread, I could dive right into that Beer, and I cannot believe the cable-knit detail on these cookies! It looks like this last recipe will nicely utilize another item in the box, the cookie cutter!
Jumper Cookie Cutter - Listed Value $2.61
This cookie cutter is so cute! I’m a huge fan of cookie cutters of all shapes; my mom and I make Christmas cookies every year, but we don’t just stick to holiday-themed cookie cutters! This jumper, er, sweater cutter will be a fantastic addition to my collection of penguin, ice cream cone, and - of course - unicorn.
House Flag Banner - Listed Value $15.72
Ooh - a House pride item, I see! I really like the design of this - I like that it’s a strong eagle emblem to represent my House, Ravenclaw, and I like the absence of any wording. It has a nice blue-themed color palette, and I think it would look great above a bed headboard to make a strong visual statement in a room.
Charm Necklace - Listed Value $15.72
I love that this month’s box included a piece of jewelry - there hasn’t been much jewelry in previous boxes. I actually love this - I love the style of a glass pendant containing faceted stones and a charm inside! I really like the blue crystals in mine, as well as the charm, but the coolest thing about this? It can be opened and I can add even more charms of my own if I want!
Character Coasters - Listed Value $10.48
My husband and I settled into a new house recently, and we’ve gotten not one, but two new coffee tables. I am trying to keep my act together and keep a tidy place, so these coasters are perfect for keeping me in line! It’s interesting that they’ve chosen the main three characters plus Draco; I would’ve maybe liked to see Luna or Cedric Diggory, just to see representation from all four Houses, but the styling on these is neat, and they seem like they’ll hold up against many a sweaty can of LaCroix!
Exclusive Print - Listed Value $7.85
Look at Neville in this! This print seems to be “Battle of Hogwarts” themed - the House banners seem war-torn, we see Neville in his full glory, stamped with his House symbol, and with the other students are backing him up in the background. The Hogwarts crest towards the front and few pieces of rubble in the foreground finish off the visual statement and actually do a good job of expressing a huge moment in the history of the castle in a dynamic way.
Stag Tee Shirt - Listed Value $13.10
This tee is so nice and soft and seems to follow the box’s slight motif of ‘protection’! The stag is best known in the Potterverse as both Harry’s and his father’s Patronus, which is the result of the spell “Expecto Patronum,” which wards off dementors, the soul-sucking wraiths that guard the wizard prison Azkaban. I love the vibrant blue color of the background as well as the stylized, almost painterly treatment of the stag itself.
Patronus Metal Displate - Listed Value $9.83
The last item in the box is another stag! This metal plate is interesting and kind of unexpected - the material is unusual, but I think that’s a good thing. I also adore the design - it looks exactly like a stag Patronus prancing through the Forbidden Forest, and the way that this has been crafted to make it looks as though it’s glowing is divine!
Verdict: This box had some really nice surprises, both in the type of item and its material! I really liked adding another cookie cutter to my collection, the wall hangings were richly-designed, and I can’t wait to wear my Ravenclaw necklace and hang up the metal Patronus plate. I liked that we got to see some characters this month, too, with items that featured Draco and Neville. All in all, a good box!
