Horror Pack June 2018 Review
Hansel & Gretel Get Baked (2013)—Retail Value $3.98
Do you like fairy tales and stoner movies? Well, here is the movie for you. This film stars Lara Flynn Boyle as a literal soul-sucking witch that lures in her victims with the promise of killer weed. This movie is saved by her hilariously dry performance, otherwise, this would be highly unwatchable due to the poor script.
Pieces (1983)—Retail Value $28.26
Here we have the early 80’s slasher film, Pieces. Pieces is campy with bizarre dialog and a storyline that is strange and ridden with misogyny; come to think of it, I essentially described most 80’s slasher films! I still found this film compelling and entertaining. Pieces has some unintentionally hilarious scenes and is truly worth a viewing if you enjoy the Grindhouse horror genre.
The Editor (2014)—Retail Value $18.22
If you are a fan of the works of Italian horror directors like Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava then you will love this brilliantly bizarre spoof. The acting and storyline are intentionally absurd and ridiculous. The movie has scenes that straight up made me scratch my head, but I ultimately enjoyed this movie! If you aren’t familiar with the Giallo genre, you will still appreciate it as an ultra-campy slasher film.
Devil (2010)—Retail Value $14.97 (found on sale here for $9.97)
I have not seen this M. Knight Shyamalan produced movie. Five people are trapped in an elevator, but there is a twist (or a few since this is, after all, an M. Knight Shyamalan produced movie. DUH!)—one of the people is, in fact, the devil. I was excited to see that Chris Messina was in this movie; I have been watching him for years in movies and shows like The Mindy Project. Many of the aspects in this movie were predictable, but I still was entertained by this film.
Verdict: June’s Horror Pack was chock full of camp, gorge, and supernatural horror. My favorites were probably Pieces and The Editor because they were humorous and bizarre. I calculated a total retail value of $65.43 for four blue-rays, an amazing deal! Plus, I had never seen any of the selections this go around, so I appreciated being able to view some new to me films!
