Julep Nail Polish in Lucca - Retail Value $14

This shade is described as an "Orchid Ice Metallic."

It's a super shimmery silver with a hint of pink/purple.

Here it is on with one coat:

I love that I got full coverage with only one coat, but this ended up chipping pretty quickly, so I'd recommend doing 2 coats with a top coat.)

Julep Perk It Under Eye Treatment Brightener in Light - Retail Value $26

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of these clicky twist applicators, but I have major dark circles under my eyes, so I'm always down to try a new concealer!

The formula is very light and I found it easy to blend, but because it is so lightweight, it doesn't give me the coverage I need. (My current go-to is the full coverage Shape Tape by Tarte.) So, I don't love this as a concealer for a full-makeup look, but for days when I don't feel like doing foundation, this is a great and easy to use tool to reduce the look of dark circles. (And if you don't have super dark circles, it may be perfect for all applications.)

Here it is swatched:

You may also notice that my box is light this month. (2 items instead of 3.)

On July 30th I received this email:

We are sorry. There was a Maven mix-up. It came to our attention that your recent beauty box is missing your Anna (Boho Glam) polish due to an unforeseen inventory discrepancy in our system. The rest of your order is on the way, but we will be unable to send this item.

To make it right, we will issue a partial refund for your order by the end of this week. Please note: it may take 7 to 10 business days for your bank to process this refund.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Julep Beauty Advisors with any questions or concerns. You can give us a call at 1-877-651-3292 (Monday-Friday 7am-4pm PST) or email us at [email protected] and we would be happy to help.

We apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for being a great Maven!

And on July 31st I received a partial refund of $5.21.

I would have preferred to pick another item instead, but I'm sure that would have been a logistical nightmare for Julep, so I'm happy they were proactive about communication and the refund.

Verdict: I pretty much always have an A+ box from Julep since I'm picking the products myself, but this one isn't a home run for me. Still good, but just a bummer not to get all the items I picked, and the under eye concealer wasn't perfect for my needs. That said, I still highly recommend this subscription if you love nail polish and/or you like having control over your beauty box items! (And I also recommend doing the 3-month subscription at $19.99 a month for better savings!)

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. You have to sign up by the 20th to get the next month's box. Then on the 24th, you'll be able to sign into your Julep Maven account and select the items you want for your box!

I just got my September box! Still evaluating whether to drop or get a three month sub at the cheaper rate – fortunately it’s a sub that gives time to think and makes it easy to skip. I love the cushion complexion I chose- great concealer and did good for brightening my undereyes. It even worked as an eyeshadow primer! But I seem to have little luck with the Polish formulas. I live the colors, but the formulas seem to chip and scratch easy. Some are thick/gloomy and hard to apply. Done are easy to apply but take forever to dry. I liked most the shades I got in my free box, and I liked two of the shades in the ‘If you can dream it’ mystery trio add on as well as the free gift shade. I’m excited to try Aubrey out with the two other silvers I threw in the box. I’m hoping the polishes I haven’t tried are more durable and dry faster though, as I just don’t get time to spend on fussy polishes.

i had a similar issue a couple months ago, they ran out of a nail tool or something that i had requested (not a polish) and let me pick a replacement of similar value.

Is there a free box coupon too? Or is the free box the polish set? I’m waiting for the code where you get to pick out some of your products and just pay shipping!

Ummm seriously Liz? The description of the eye product clearly states that it’s an eye brightener and the box clearly says illuminating. Nowhere does it claim this is a full coverage concealer.

You’re right, sorry. I probably shouldn’t have picked this product based on my severity of dark circles. Maybe it was wishful thinking. 🙁

Sorry that was supposed to have an lol with it. Didn’t mean for it to sound snarky. My bad.

Liz,
One of the listed uses is to correct dark circles, it does suggest going one shade lighter for an even more brightening effect. I actually like to layer the cushion complexion over a red concealer. If you’ve not tried red concealer, I totally recommend getting one and trying it.

Kari

That eye product is more of a brightened and not a concealer. They have a more heavy duty concealer on their website. Just a heads up.

Free box code or the 12 polish code, I’m guessing u cannot combine the 2…? I prefer beauty item, so I’ll go with the free box. I didn’t see the code for the free box, only the Polish code. What is it?

A few months back, Julep ran out of one of the polishes I ordered and sent me an e-mail saying they were sending a completely different nail polish in its place. It was a color I had no interest in, so I emailed them and they let me choose a color and I got both the random one they sent me plus the one I chose. I am sure a lot of people weren’t happy about them choosing a random color to send instead of the polish they wanted, so it isn’t surprising they have switched to refunds.

Oh wow then the response is really inconsistent. A couple of months ago they ran out of a lip color I selected and I got an email asking if I would like to select a different shade of any lip product or get a partial refund. I chose a different lip color and they shipped it separately. So weird their response to inventory issues isn’t always the same. I’d be disappointed to just get a partial refund since I can’t then purchase another product for the same price. But at least proactively refunding is better than the companies you have to chase down for refunds when something is missing! I would not be happy if they just randomly sent a different shade though. The entire reason I like this sub is it being fully customizable.
