Little Passports Science Expeditions July 2018 Review
Our first box included our very own Science Case, Forensic Science Kit, and Forensic Science comic & activity book:
The insert included in this month’s box shows our Little Scientists where to go to keep learning and exploring online.
The first month includes a Science Case and Lab Notebook to keep track of what you learn!
This is the Science Case. It is big enough to hold completed experiments, science tools and whatever else needed to be a successful Little Scientist.
A Forensic Science comic & activity book came with my Little Passports Science Expeditions lab notebook, a fingerprint analysis card, ink and extra ink for the fingerprint analysis card and a Forensic Science science experiment pamphlet.
The Little Passports Science Expeditions Lab Notebook is really, really cool.
It includes pages for our achievement badges for science experiments we complete.
Grid paper for observations and conclusions of science experiments we work on.
And really neat scientific illustrations including Human Anatomy, Rock Cycle in the Earth’s Crust, Metric Prefix Scale and so much more! It even has a ruler on the edge in case we need them for data.
This month we are working on Forensic Science, only one of the coolest science fields out there!
The Forensic Science pamphlet includes 3 science experiments. We will get to work on DNA Extraction, fingerprint analysis and spatter studies.
To help with the science experiments, we received this Forensic Science kit.
The kit includes one test tube, one test tube rack, a balloon, 2 rubber bands, 2 filters, a magnifying glass and a small plastic bottle. I will need additional items from around the house to complete the experiments, though. The items are your average household items and won't be hard to collect.
Fingerprint Analysis Card & 2 Fingerprint Ink pads were also included to help us complete the fingerprint analysis.
The Forensic Science comic and activity book included in our subscription is a 16-page book filled with a comic mystery and some activities to help practice those skills we learned earlier with our Forensic Kit.
The Add-Ons:
Coral Reef Kit - Retail Value $12.95
One of the super awesome add-ons we received in this month’s box is this Crystal Growing Coral Reef.
The kit contained enough supplies to grow 3 multi-colored coral reefs, including 3 plastic bases, 3 crystal growing liquid packets and 6 paper coral reef pieces.
Here are our completed reefs. The white one was done first and is completely crystallized, the second was done next and is about halfway done and the third one was about 30 minutes into the process.
Weather Lab Science Kit - Retail Value $24.95
Our second add-on is this Weather Lab Science Kit.
In the weather kit, we get to explore 3 weather phenomena’s: tornadoes, volcanoes, and snow.
Each weather experiment comes with an information card and an activity to learn more about the different weathers. The volcano kit came with materials to build our very own volcano! To make it erupt, we will need some items from around the house.
The second weather we got to explore is tornados! We received a Pet Tornado, a tornado in a cup, that provides us with an actual tiny tornado to see how they form and fall. We had a lot of fun forming tornados with this very unique tool.
The last weather phenomena we get to explore is snow and not just any snow, but snow we get to make ourselves!
Overall, the weather kit is pretty awesome with so much to do!
Verdict: This is a super cool subscription box for anyone even though it is geared at the kids. We got to explore so many different parts of the Forensic Science field: from DNA extraction to fingerprinting and spatter analysis. We got to build our own coral reefs and got to experiment with some of Mother Nature’s most powerful weather events. Hands down, this is probably one of the coolest boxes for growing minds out there and for just $21.95 (plus $3.00 shipping) a month, it is definitely worth the investment to keep kids interested in science and show that it is so much fun! I also want to include that the add-ons featured in the Little Passports store can be mixed and matched, for those families with children of all ages.
