Scentbird is a perfume subscription where you choose one fragrance per month. They offer a variety of authentic designer scents and allow you to narrow down by either traditional categories for notes (e.g., floral, woody, spicy, etc.) or more general descriptive terms (e.g., mysterious, classic, flirty). Subscribers also receive a monthly discount code that can be used on full-size bottles of perfume or cologne from the Scentbird shop.

Scentbird for Women August 2018 Review

This month, I received Scentbird's “Scent of the Month.” You can either opt for the scent of the month or you can fill a queue with fragrances of your choosing:

There was what is basically an advertising flyer for this month’s scent, “Amazing Grace” by Philosophy.

Your fragrance is typically packaged in a cardboard tube and if you look at the back, it has instructions on how to put these in the Scentbird holders.

Amazing Grace by Philosophy

Amazing Grace by Philosophy – Estimated Value $10.82 (buy a .5 oz. bottle for $20)

The actual fragrance vial informs me that this is the cheaper “eau de toilette” (as opposed to the “eau de parfum” which is also available). I know there are some people who rave over Philosophy as a brand but I have always thought they were just OK and have never gotten too excited about their items. I probably have half a dozen sample vials of this already from GWPs.

This is really too floral for my tastes, and kind of powdery, with notes of freesia, jasmine, and rose, as well as bergamot, mandarin, and grapefruit, and a base of musk. This didn’t change much with my body chemistry over time and the sillage was fairly soft on me (but that may be due to being eau de toilette instead of something more concentrated).

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $10.82, which is below the month-to-month cost of the subscription, and I would probably be inclined to forgive that if this was new or a niche fragrance, but it’s been around for a long time. However, you don’t have to choose the “scent of the month” – you can get a more expensive fragrance, you can get previous Deck of Scarlet palettes, various lip and eye products from the likes of Tarte and Ardency Inn, and Scentbird branded bath and body items or scented candles (I really like their hand cream).  So this subscription has become a lot more versatile and if you start building up too much fragrance in your stash, you can choose something else for your queue.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance for your queue.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly including free shipping and this month, I received $10.82 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

I subbed to Scentbird years ago and just recently resubbed, but all of the scents I liked (Black Opium, Hanae Mori, Olympea, Flowerbomb, etc.) are no longer available.

Does anyone else possibly like any of these and if so, do you have suggestions on scents that are similar and currently available on Scentbird? I know I could buy a full-size of any of these, but I like the idea of not having to commit to one scent (and my budget won’t allow me to buy all of them!).

I subbed to Scentbird a couple years ago, & canceled after a few months. I resubscribed at the beginning of July. I still have not received shipments for July or August. I’ve been emailing back & forth with customer service since August
2. My last email from the CS rep was Aug 22, saying that they expected all remaining orders filled by the 26th.

Today, on the 25th, I got a scripted, basic email (NOT from the CS rep I’ve been talking to), saying: “We wanted to apologize about the shipping issue you experienced. We’ve processed a refund ($14.95) and it’s on its way to you. Please note, refunds may take 7-10 business days to process.”

It does not say what the refund is for. It does not say whether I’ll be getting July or August shipments at all. I’m very frustrated with Scentbird right now. I totally understand delays due to moving, but reassuring me for weeks that I’ll be getting my item, only to suddenly tell me one day before the targeted shipment date that I’ll be getting a refund is not cool.

You can choose a Deck of Scarlet palette instead of a perfume sample for the regular monthly price. You just have to add it to your queue and that’s what will be delivered the next month instead of a scent.. Tarte lip paints are also available for the same price. The Deck of Scarlet palettes they have are not the current ones, they are past palettes. And they do not send out the extra add ons that DOS sends with the palette such as liners or mascaras, only the palette. It’s still a way better deal than the fragrance. The palette I received was very good quality and had 3 shadows, 2 lip colors, blush and highlighter. For $14.95 I was very pleased and I got a new subscriber deal so next months is free!

Do you get deck of scarlet palettes for the same price as their website or do you get a discount for being a scentbird customer?

I still haven’t received shipping for my August box. I signed up in late July, and was charged immediately, then decided to cancel on 8/11. I subbed to them for a few months earlier this year, but I can’t recall on the timing of when I typically received their box. I guess I’ll give it until the end of the month to see if I get anything before contacting them.

I canceled since Julys was so late. I rejoined on Aug. 7,they took my money but now my order on the website disappeared. It had said processing but never got a tracking number. I was told they are moving and will get it to me. But now that order is gone. They told me it was coming and would be shipped9/7. I’m worried somethings not right. I put my membership on hold.

Did you ever receive yours? I never got mine either and September is almost over.

I received this one as well and didn’t care for it either.

I had two good months in a row (which is unusual) so I was due for one that didn’t work for me. My husband wasn’t terribly enthusiastic about this one on me either although it’s possible that’s because I sprayed it close to bedtime and he knew he’d have to smell it all night. (Or because this is just not the kind of scent I typically wear?)

When I put this one in my queue it had at least four stars and now it’s down to like three, so we are not alone.

Anna

My husband told me that that scent reminds him of people our parents age so maybe that’s it.
