Sweet Sparkle July 2018 Review
This month includes warm, shimmery tones of makeup and some skincare. Let’s see what’s included.
Each month, an info card is included with an intro to the theme and the product names and retail values. This month’s theme is “Sun Goddess”.
Shieldlife Beauty Collagen Ion Mask, 1 sheet mask - Retail Value $5
I’ve been riding my bike a lot lately and between the heat, sun, and lots of sunscreen, my skin has been feeling worn out. I popped this mask on after chilling it in the fridge and it left my skin feeling soothed, intensely moisturized, and with a great reduction in redness. I like receiving single sheet masks in sub boxes; it helps me remember to use them!
Cailyn Cosmetics Illumineral Blush Powder in Cinnamon, .14oz/4g - Retail Value $31
Like all of Cailyn’s blushes, this one is intense. Only a little bit is needed to give a flush of color and a hint of glow. This packaging has a built-in retractable brush in the lid that is actually pretty impressive. I prefer a bit more of a fluffy brush for blush, but this one is soft, dense, and rounded, so it works well to blend the color out. $31 seems like a lot for blush though, even with a cool brush built-in.
Laritzy Lip Gloss in Vantage, .1oz/3.1g - Retail Value $16
This gloss is a sheer, light pink that gives a touch of shine to lips, but not really any color. It’s thick and smooth, so it stays put for a while and keeps lips moisturized. I don’t really like to use it by itself, but it works well over dry, matte lip colors to make them a bit more comfortable.
Bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer Powder in Beige, .08oz/2.53g - Retail Value $15
I have several of these shimmer powders from Bellapierre now and they’re great. This shade is a not-too-warm, metallic taupe that is beautiful. The great thing about these powders is that they are made of simple ingredients, can be used for basically any color cosmetic application, and are super intense. They pack a punch with color but can be built up and blended easily.
E.L.F. Makeup Mist & Set in Clear, 2.02oz/60ml - Retail Value $4
I’m happy to see a setting spray included, but, this one is not one that I like. The price is great but the formula leaves my skin feeling tight and like it has a film on it. The sprayer also doesn’t spray that fine mist like other setting sprays. Lots of people love it though.
Swatches of the makeup (left to right): Cailyn Blush, Bellapierre Shimmer Powder, Laritzy Lip Gloss.
Here is my simple version of “Sun Goddess”. I blended the Bellapierre shimmer powder from the inner corner of my lid to about the middle after working a matte brown into my crease. I sprayed my brush with a little setting spray first to get a more foiled effect. I used a fluffy brush to apply the Cailyn blush to my cheeks. It’s so intense! I used too much at first so I blended it out with the built-in brush. Lastly, I lined and filled in my lips with a nude lip liner and applied a coat of the Laritzy gloss on top for a pretty sheen.
Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Sun Goddess” box has a value of $71 with free shipping. I liked most of the items this month. I love receiving masks and I have no issue with building my shimmer powder collection. The only dud for me was the setting spray, but I know lots of people love it. All of the items are full-sized and curated to create an entire look. I wish Sweet Sparkle included a bit more info about the products and look in the box. I’d love to see some inspiration on creative ways to use these items.
