Trash Club by Divine Trash Vintage August 2018 Review

If you've read my reviews before, you know how much I love this service. It's definitely not for everyone, but this bold, wonderfully irreverent take on a clothing subscription feels MADE for my personality and style.

The Divine Trash Vintage "Trash Club" is a vintage clothing and accessories subscription that curates one new look (or sometimes two, if they're simpler pieces) every month based on your size and preferences. When you sign up, you'll complete their survey, where you'll share things like your sizing, height, weight, and gender identity, and your personal style. They have a little widget that you use to visually explain your sense of style—you're shown laydowns (like Polyvore boards) of different outfits, and you click to remove ones that don't fit your tastes. You can also share Pinterest boards and write in any other thoughts you might have. Divine Trash also sends an email shortly after each order arrives, asking for feedback to help them better narrow down your vibe.

(They send you these rad little matchbooks each month—I love this twist on a typical business card!)

When I first started my subscription, I requested the kinds of things I ask for from more mainstream styling services. Neutral, comfortable pieces with some unique silhouettes or statement pieces thrown in for good measure. After getting a feel for the kinds of things Divine Trash specializes in, I've decided to let loose a little more. I've gotten some great basic pieces from them (the jacket from my very first order is one of the most-often-worn items in my entire closet), but they're magicians when it comes to head-turning, totally unexpected items that appeal to my quirkier, louder style sensibilities. So rather than use them to get vintage versions of the kinds of black/gray/khaki/denim essentials I'd look for at the store, I've switched gears to using the Trash Club as my statement-piece procurement service. And so far, wow, have they ever delivered.

divine trash note

Okay, first thing I love is that, as always, the folks behind the subscription always write a little note on the hangtag for the piece. So cute. Second of all, the brand of this dress is called "Player"?! Amazing. How impossibly kitschy. How brilliantly bizarre. And thirdly, well... just look at this beauty.

DO YOU LOVE? I loooooove.

It is VERY difficult to find tiger-stripe patterns, folks. I've looked. I've looked because tigers are my thing. They have forever been the animal I choose for myself during icebreaker games. They are the coolest. In reality, my personality is probably much more akin to that of a sleepy housecat than a tiger, but a girl's gotta have aspirations, right?

Long story short, I am THRILLED that my stylists were able to actually find a tiger dress, let alone one that fits me like a glove. I was so worried that it might be too small, but as it turns out, it feels like it's been tailored just for me. There's a tie back, too, that helps adjust how tight it is around my waist. But as far as the top and free, flowy skirt go, I am golden. The fabric is a SUPER lightweight 100% crinkly rayon weave that's a weensy bit sheer, but not inconveniently so. It'll be great for hot summer days. I see it under a jean jacket with a few big long chunky necklaces thrown on for good measure. And some big white Kurt Cobain sunglasses. And platforms. And a beret. And a bright yellow Walkman.

The only downside of this dress was that it was definitely owned by a former smoker—a fact that came to light while I was steaming it. (I think the heat released whatever aromatic ghosts were dwelling deep in its fibers.) It's nothing another round in my washing machine shouldn't fix. I have an annoyingly sensitive nose, so I picked up on it pretty quickly, but it certainly wasn't as bad as some products that engulf you in a cloud of weird plastic chemical-ish smell the second you unwrap them.

The Verdict: Once again, I love what I got from Divine Trash Vintage! Hopefully, my reviews are conveying that this subscription isn't for the faint of heart. But that said, if it is your style, I think you'll have a blast with this service. I'm honestly SO impressed by how spot-on the fit has been across the pieces I've received. When I'm out shopping for myself, vintage pieces can be hard to find in my size. (I'm SO familiar with the feeling of falling in love with a piece only to find that I can barely pull it up my leg before it cuts off circulation.) It's an awesome treat to get something each month that fulfills my vintage style cravings AND legit fits!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You can definitely subscribe, but what you get will be super unique, both because it's vintage and because it's picked specifically for your tastes! According to Divine Trash, Trash Club packages will ship within a week of your charge.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $30.00 with free US shipping, meaning this dress must be worth at least $30.00.

I am not normally an animal print fan, but I love this dress! I finally broke down and signed up last month. What I received was so spot on for me! I am eager for my next little black bag!

It’s nice to learn there is someone else out there with a super sensitive nose! I can sense when my husband had onions two days ago, when I come home from being away. I can sense if a smoker has been around, even if they are not smoking. I hope you get that smell out, because you rock that dress!!

It really is amazing how spot-on the fit is. It looks great on you, and I love for you idea for how to style it. I always spray garments with Downy wrinkle releaser before steaming, which can help with odors, too.

Soak it in vinegar and then wash in cold. I got rid of smoker smells before. The dress looks amazing on you.

What a great dress! And you are right! It fits you perfectly! Looks fantastic on you! As a thrift shopper, I’m truly impressed by their curation and price point, and I love the note and matches. If I didn’t enjoy the hunt as much as I do, I’d break down and subscribe.
