Trash Club by Divine Trash Vintage September 2018 Review

The Divine Trash Vintage "Trash Club" is a vintage clothing and accessories subscription that curates one new look (or sometimes two, if they're simpler pieces) every month based on your size and preferences. When you sign up, you'll complete their survey, where you'll share things like your sizing, height, weight, and gender identity, and your personal style. They have a little widget that you use to visually explain your sense of style—you're shown laydowns (like Polyvore boards) of different outfits, and you click to remove ones that don't fit your tastes. You can also share Pinterest boards and write in any other thoughts you might have. Divine Trash also sends an email shortly after each order arrives, asking for feedback to help them better narrow down your vibe.

Instead of an info card, they send a book of matches each month. It's a fun retro touch. (Plus I'm no longer digging through my junk drawer every time I want to light a candle...)

My Divine Trash finds are reliably statement-making, head-turning, conversation-starting masterpieces. Opening these black bags is like cracking open a treasure chest. Don't get me wrong—these kooky, retro, unconventional picks are definitely not for everyone. And I have found that the Divine Trash folks are better at picking more avant-garde looks rather than mainstream or modern pieces. But if that's what you're into, you are going to be VERY happy.

divine trash vintage note

Okay, the first thing I love is that, as always, the folks behind the subscription always write a little note on the hangtag for the piece. I'd mentioned in one of my feedback forms that I'd love pieces that made me feel like a young Golden Girl, and as you can see, they DELIVERED.

Look at THIS.

This has gotta be the most radiant piece of clothing I own! It's luminous. I'm not such a big fan of the cut, though. The fabric is thin and crinkly and rustles as I move. It has an elasticized neckline, hem, and wrists, which seem cool, but make the stiffer fabric billow and bunch in ways that aren't totally flattering. It's not that the fit is wrong—I just think its the right fit in a piece that isn't built to do a lot of favors. I think it could be really cute on someone with a narrower frame, but it's a little awkward on me.

Wow, do I love the color though. I don't want to give up on it just because it's a bit tricky to style. I might take it to a friend who does tailoring to see if she can transform it into something a little more wearable. If I ditch the elasticized hem and maybe make the sleeves into short sleeves, it could be a cool boxy top to pair with a high-waisted skirt or jeans!

The Verdict: This month's Divine Trash Vintage look didn't knock it out of the park, but I'm not ready to throw it under the bus, either. I'll totally hang on to this piece and see what I can do with it—it fits the bill for me fun-style-wise, but the cut of it is just ehhhhh. I definitely feel listened to by the stylists, and I love the personal vibe of the brand. It's just so... me!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You can definitely subscribe, but what you get will be super unique, both because it's vintage and because it's picked specifically for your tastes! According to Divine Trash, Trash Club packages will ship within a week of your charge.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $30.00 with free US shipping, meaning this top must be worth at least $30.00.

I love that top on you. For dressier occasions, you could wear black silky crop pants.

Dark pants like the suggestions say and its a winner winner. You’ll have fun with this top – holidays are coming!

I would listen to the stylist and do the black skinny jeans. You can throw a black vest or scarf on top as well to cover up any billowing or bunching.

Thanks, Julie! It’s still a little awkward over skinny jeans, but throwing something over it definitely helps tone down the billowy areas. I’m determined to make it work!!!

Oh my gosh…You are always so amazing. This brought a huge smile to my face! I Love the hand written letters and thoughtfulness in this sub..I agree with other comments that top would go great with black and on New Years..It’s very 50’s Hollywood glam…(or 80’s) 🙂 You are my favorite reviewer, an absolute doll.

The fit is not great, but you must wear it for New Year’s.

This reminds me of an awesome Barbie doll I had when I was young. I think her outfit was made from this same fabric. Your smile is so radiant, this top works on you. Maybe it’s the light color of the jeans that aren’t the best pairing. Perhaps some black skinny jeans would be a better choice. Regardless, you are lovely in everything. Trust me, with a smile like yours, this top is only the second most radiant thing in your wardrobe. Your smile is first!
