BoxyCharm is a full-size beauty and makeup subscription box. They always provide a great value compared the cost of the box. (If you are a makeup addict - I HIGHLY recommend this box!)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: BoxyCharm

The Cost: $21 a month

The Products: 5-6 beauty items that will include nail care, skin care, makeup, haircare, fragrance and more. (At least 4 of those items will be full-sized).

Ships to: US and Canada

Check out all of our Boxycharm reviews!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included. This month is a "Wild Flower"!

And on the back of the card are coupons from some of the brands featured in boxes:

Now, on to the items!

PRETTY VULGAR Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette – Retail Value $35

All subscribers will receive this item.

This palette includes a mix of mattes and shimmers, mostly brown shades, with some silver and charcoal, too. I found the formulas to blend well, and I was impressed with the pigment, too.

Here are the shades swatched:

(All swatches are one heavy-handed swipe)

The Ojitos Brush Trio by Alamar Cosmetics – $18

All subscribers will receive this item.

This brush set is made with soft, synthetic bristles.

The brush on the left is perfect for blending out shadow, the middle brush is for getting a close application for lining your lash line with eyeshadow, and the right brush is perfect for applying shimmery shades.

Butter London Stroke of Wow Roll-On Eyeliner - Retail Value $19

Subscribers will either receive this OR Butter London Glazen Lustrous Liner OR Luscious Angel Eyes Eyeshadow Primer.

Normally, black eyeliners aren't too exciting (I get a lot of them in subscription boxes), but this one is unique! Instead of a felt tip, it's a mini wheel that you roll along the lash line. It took a few tries to get the hang of it, but I like it, and the formula is budge proof once it sets.

(Swatched in lower photo.)

Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten in Tropic Hues - Retail Value $28

Subscribers will either receive this OR Girlactik Skin Glow Duo.

This is a shimmery blush with shades of pink and peach. It blends out beautifully, and the pigment is fab, too. (Swatched in lower photo.)

Lorac Pro Liquid Lipstick in Deep Burgundy - Retail Value $19

Subscribers will either receive this OR a liquid lipstick from Hank and Henry OR Violet Voss Liquid Lipstick OR Grande Cosmetics HydraPlump.

First, I love that this formula smells like chocolate cake! It's a highly pigmented liquid lipstick with great staying power. And it dries down to a matte finish.

Here it is swatched beneath the eyeliner and the blush:

Verdict: The total retail value of this box is $119! As usual, I think that's amazing for a $21 box - Boxycharm never disappoints! I really like every item in this box, and who knew I could still be delighted by a black eyeliner after all these years reviewing subscription boxes?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! The Boxycharm waitlist is temporarily lifted!

My box just arrived. I def. hit the Boxy lottery this month with box#2. I didn’t realize the H&H lipstick is a liquid lipstick which is what I prefer. The smell is delicious. I’ve only been wearing it for 10 minute so I have no idea as to it’s longevity but it’s not drying at all. I have been wanting to try Laura Geller blush. I tend to gravitate more towards pink but this peachy pink is quite lovely. I am a super happy camper this month.

Ugh. Just got my box and literally got my last picks of each variation. LG blush, primer, Lorac lipstick in Aubergine. I am cancelling (again), especially since I just got on Ipsy plus for October. Boxycharm so disappoints me. If anyone wants to swap PLEASE email me at rachelnanny (hotmail). I’ll take either eyeliner, the girlacktic, and pretty much any other lippie.

Erin

Im disappointed, I received a purple violet Voss, the girlactic and eyeshadow primer. The primer is fine the others I won’t use

Did Ipsy plus tell you that you’ll be off waitlist in oct. they told me I’d be off this month so will see.
I’m really wanting that 1st box but I’m assuming that by next month it will be different. I read somewhere that plus was going to be a quarterly box so I was surprised to hear that it’s going to be a box that will receive every month

The silver lining of variations is the excitement of getting the one you want. I got the Laura Geller and I’m super happy about it.

I subscribe to this one and I have received two boxes now. I have some serious concerns about product quality. Items arrive without any wrapper or box so I wonder if they were used or returned items? Seems super sketchy. Anyone else had this experience?

A lot of the products do arrive without a package. However some of manufacturers make a batch especially for Boxycharm, for example the Laura Gellar baked blush, says NOT FOR SALE SAMPLE on the bottom, it is a full size product & it came without a wrapper. I’m not exactly sure how it works for each vendor, but it stands to reason that when buying/selling products to resell as full size samples you would attempt to save a few bucks. We know that the value way out weighs the cost & skipping the wrapper is a great way to keep costs low for everyone. Manufacturers to Boxycharm to Us. Most products packaging is huge cost.
If you still think this company with millions of customers is scamming all of us, you can call the manufacturer and ask them. There is always a way to find out about your make-up, if it’s legit. Tarte & Smashbox have extremely helpful customer service.
This I can’t say for certain but I think some of the differences in the products we get vs buying from Sephora may be to keep people from attempting to return items for full value credit. I don’t know if that’s a thing or has been a thing, but I would think something has been put into place to keep that from happening.
Also, my BEAUTYFIX by Dermstore has 9 items, same cost. This month I only got 2 full size products, Dr. Brandts microdermabrasion,$79, it came in a box, all indications are that it’s not especially made for a sub box. Last month my Tarte, Tartiest Lip Paint,$21, was also in a box & didn’t appear to be a special version. I do know that sometimes products are made specifically for a box, but most boxes don’t have the clientele Boxycharm has. I think we have so many variations due to volume, it’s a lot of boxes to fill.
Anyways, sorry for rambling I hope some of it makes sense. Don’t worry about Boxycharm they aren’t doing anything ugly with the products. Just call the manufacturer if your worried.

Ok I just got my box– I had the WOW liner , the LG blush, the brushes (sorry I dont know what the hype about these are?) the palete and the LORAC pencil in Nude pink which i think will be amazing on— I will say i did join for the luxe box, knew everything would blow in the aug box, (but my daughter is happy with it) but this box—-i am THRILLED.

i will say this i was doing sub boxes a few yrs back, only semi ok, allure, FFF, Test tube and play— i had canceled ALL except for Play— now i am all in mainly for luxe boxes— so hello boxy, ipsy (again) even got the popsugar one because of the scarf. and FFF:) now ok here is my suggestion to Sephora DO A TRUE quarterly Luxe box—with only high end/you can get online or in a major city (i know they have done la mer, etc— but make it worth it. I think this months play is the one im actually most excited about in a while.

ok im off my box 🙂

I just joined Allure, and they srnt me a small but full sized jar of La Mer cream!! It was a freebie for joining. I think most boxes are stepping up their game. I have pretty much cancelled all my subs that are sample sized. I honestly joined Allure just for the freebie. I’m a little put off by IPSY. I was super excited to here about the Glambag Plus, but to date I’m not even on a waitlist. I’ve contacted customer service 4 times and it seems like it could take months to get the Plus, I would say by Feb or March it should be available for all. But unfortunately I don’t think I will see it this year from what I’ve been told by IPSY. I can’t put my IPSY on hold change the frequency or anything or I will not be able to get on the waitlist. It sucks. I’m very curious about it, so if anyone hears anything please post it

I got my BC box yesterday and I will say that I will use every item in the box. I got the eyeshadow primer which is something I really needed and the Laura Geller blush actually showed up on my skin color so I am pleased. However, I got a Lorac crayon lipstick that totally sucks and really doesn’t wear well. I don’t know about anybody else but I am no longer excited about boxes anymore. Maybe it’s time to try a new sub.

I got this box variation… I have never gotten 3 so I was surprised. I actually did end up getting Lorac liquid matte which was my 3rd choice out of 5 but still something I am happy about. I got the shade Wisteria. It’s purple but a wearable purple shade that will push me slightly out of my comfort zone. I may have to tone it down slightly for work with a gloss but it is very pretty. I will need to wear a lip liner with it because it smears easily after application until it dries. I am scared of the blush but willing to try it and it was my choice over girlactic… cream is not my friend. If it weren’t for the boxluxe fiasco, I’d be pleased this month. We got butter london and Lorac in the same box which isn’t shabby for $21. I am hoping to be high enough on the waiting list to get activated in December but we will see how much “as many as possible” actually is!

I usually get box #1, but this month I got box #8! That’s a lot of variations! I got the Girlactik which I wanted, the eyeshadow primer which I wanted, and the GrandeLips in Red Delicious which I’m happy about and I’m loving the shade! I didn’t get the GrandeLips last time they had it as a variation and I really wanted it.

Reply ButtonReply

MzBev

I got the Lorac in the same color, as you. I need to look up swatches to see how dark or light it is on. I am still hunting for a purple that looks good on me. So far, I have a couple that are just too dark or too light and wash me out. I usually get box 1 or 2, so was surprised to get #3 this month.

So I want to clarify this FIRST, BEFORE I ask my question *I did NOT read all the comments at all YET {I’m getting my kids ready for school but wanted to ask before I forgot} so if this question has been answered already, I apologize* I’m getting the Girlactik duo thingy and honestly haven’t seen too many people getting it, so was wondering if anyone seen any variants with the Girlactik product AND the eyeliner with the roller on the end??? I’m DYING to try that eyeliner since MAC released it but couldn’t justify spending that amount on an eyeliner and not knowing if I even like it….. again sorry if this has been answered already and thanks in advanced for answering again for me AND for reading my mile long comment/question lol

Reply ButtonReply

Erin

My sister gave me her roller ball liner and I received the girlactic. The liner is super thin I love that, it tickles my eye though. I’m not happy with the girlactic. I got variation 7 with a purple violet Voss and eyeshadow primer

Reply ButtonReply

Christine G

I got the Girlactik and the eyeshadow primer.

Reply ButtonReply

Natalie A Hull

Hi, I got variation 2. I got the roll on eyeliner and I like it. Someone said they hated it, but I can’t imagine why. You HAVE to shake it really good & it’s got something in it so when you shake it, it makes a cool sound. I also got Hank & Henry liquid lip in Petal Pusher, its a rose color. And the rest is the same.

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

Did you get the eyeliner?

Reply ButtonReply

Elizabeth Hernandez

I actually got the Mac roll eyeliner and hate it I hope this one isn’t as messy as the Mac on

Reply ButtonReply

Cyndi

At first I wasn’t very excited about the spoilers for September, but I received my box today and wow! The pictures don’t do justice to that eye shadow palette. My box was variation #2, which included the Hank and Henry liquid lipstick – perfect color for me. The LG blush is gorgeous! For me, this is the best Boxy ever!

Reply ButtonReply

Tara

I got the same variation. I usually get #1, so it was a nice change. My boxycharm in August & September have been the first months that I can wear the lip products they sent me. I am beyond excited.

I love how I thought the H&H lipstick was an actual lipstick…when I read the shade and it said liquid lipstick, I was like “whoaaaaa”. Hahhahaa, I’m a sucker for neat packaging…but the color is amazing too. This box was definitely a win for me.

And not getting the boxyluxe was a blessing in disguise (for me anyways), cause idk what kind of lipstick I wouldve received, and the only thing I really wanted was the tarte and the luxie brush (from the luxe products). I was going to give away the sol de Janeiro, the smashbox, the juice beauty, headband, and maybe even the tote anyways.

Reply ButtonReply

Madi

I got the same and I’m OBSESSED with the liquid lipstick. It is the perfect color. I am excited to see how it wears as the day goes on. Same with the roll on eyeliner, I usually end up with my wings coming off.

Reply ButtonReply

Natalie

I got the same, the eyeliner is great. Once it dried it there until u remove it. YOU MUST SHAKE it up really good. Practice a line or 2 on your hand to get the feel, but it’s not at all messy & it’s got serious potential.

Susan

I got the same version. Absolutely in love with everything in it. This has been a fabulous month for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie

I actually got a Lorac Matte Pro lip pencil in Dusty Rose. I’d be mad, except it’s easily the most wearable shade I ever got out of Boxy.

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

I was watching the lip swatch party video on you tube of all the colors this month, and that dusty rose color is beautiful! Awesome that you got that 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

Just got my box. Was so excited to see the Hank and Henry lip. It does wear a quite a bit darker than i thought though. Regardless, happy to get a color i can wear, lol. Also got the laura geller blush which is nice. Great box this month!

Reply ButtonReply

Danielle

Which variation number did you get if you don’t mind me asking?

Reply ButtonReply

Emily

Sure, it is variation #2. Has the pretty vulgar shadow, Laura Gellar blush, Hank & Henry lip, butter London roller liner and the brushes.

Sarah

I’m so annoyed with this box. I logged in to upgrade as soon as it launched Saturday morning. I spent hours trying to get through, but the page kept crashing. I emailed them once during and once after I was put on the waitlist for the Luxe Box for December. They never replied to either of my emails. Their customer service is lacking, and as someone who works in the tech sector, they should’ve been prepared and the site shouldn’t have crashed for hours.

Reply ButtonReply

xgirlmama

I got this box, only with a very unwearable Lorac lip color in pencil form. It’s this ghostly light purple that made me look… well, imagine a corpse in the morgue.

Reply ButtonReply

V

I received everything that Liz got also except with a Lorac crayon in Magenta. My box number is 4. I absolutely love the color of the lip crayon. I will wear a purple lipstick any give day. If this is the same color that you have maybe you can mix it with another color to make it work for you.

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie

It’s a light mauve. I’m porcelain in skin tone so it reads as a my lips but better nude on me!

Stuart Roberts

if i ordered mine on friday when should it ship?

Reply ButtonReply

Dkla_diann

I’m still bummed that they waitlisted me for I’m still bummed they waitlisted me luxe. Btw my box had a Lorac matte lip color in it in Aubergine, not a gliss. Way too dark for me!
For my taste the box ranks around a 6 out of 10

Reply ButtonReply

SunnyT

I received my box today. Variation 2.
Included in my box… Nightingale Smokey eyeshadow pallete, Laura Geller baked blush-N-Brighten, Ojitos brush set, Hank & Henry liquid lip in Petal pusher, and Stroke of WOW roll on liner. Great box IMO. Was happy to receive a great color lip product this time!

Reply ButtonReply

lavinia

Got the same box and I thought it was a great box too! A question though: does your Hank & Henry smell strange? I’m not normally thrown by scents, but this one does seem odd to me.

Reply ButtonReply

Krystal

Mine smells nasty!

Lawna Young

Am I the only one that doesn’t like the brushes?? I am just not a fan of that green color. I can’t wait to see which variation I receive. I better not receive the Grande Lips lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Tatyana

yeah same… green brushes? pass… hoping at least the texture is soooft like the vintage brushes they sent us. I love those!

Reply ButtonReply

Jennifer

Good box! Not sure what variations I will get, but since the Nifhtingale palette is a guarantee I’m already happy with it.

Reply ButtonReply

Toni Marie

I received my spoiler from Boxycharm and im getting the Laura Geller blush, i was hoping for the girlactik, but its ok. Im thinking about gifting. I hope the palette next month is really nice, because i have 2 palettes from pur, the one i like most is the mini contour palette. Hopefukky we get warm colors with burnt orange, a dark burgundy and warm browns and black with no shimmer. That would be great. I wonder does boxycharm follow the profile preference?

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy Stinson

I’d gladly trade the girlatic item for the Laura Geller blush if I receive the girlatic item lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Christine G

I thought the Pür spoiler was for a face/cheek palette…

Reply ButtonReply

Momo

Hoping I don’t get Lorac, it’s much too fragrant for my liking. BC hasn’t been too exciting for me but always exceeds the sub fee. I’ve gifted all my palettes since Jan and have found at least 1 item useful every box & can nvr go wrong when they throw in brushes 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Angie

same I dont want Lorac I have tons I want Hank $ Henry

Reply ButtonReply

Meg

This makeup box is absolutely fabulous!

Reply ButtonReply

Tatyana

Agreed!

I depotted all the shadows that I got from Boxy and surprisingly, I had a decent z-pallette going. I’m not even mad about the more colorful palettes. I didn’t even realize it but all the palettes that I bough myself were… the same!

I highly recommend depotting shadows to really see what you have in your collection. It’s easier with cardboard palettes from BC. I had trouble depotting my tarte collection LOL.

I also found a way to use falsies… cutting them in half and putting them on the outer corners looks so natural yet so lovely!

I still haven’t found a way to work blushes that don’t complement my skintone and how to work with overly dramatic lips for a daily look. Those two are next on my list!

I was so mad about the party animal box, but now I realize I kinda had a hole in my collection. the only greens and blues I have that are non-smokey is from the Alamar palette! I want to pick up more now to create some stunning looks and have kind of like my own DIY natasha denona green-brown palette. With a sticker price of $239, yeah I’d rather build it up with singles! I also want the pool shade from jaclyn Hill Morphe’s pallette… but I have all the other shades pretty much thanks to BC. I can just pick up some blues, mints and greens and call it a day <3

BC I love you! lol…. and I'm sorry for complaining last month. LOL….

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I’ve taken an overly bright blush that could never work for my skintone and dabbed it on top of chapstick for a DIY custom lip balm. It adds a nice pop of color on days when I don’t really want to wear a full face.

Toni Marie

Tatyana thanks for the advice and diy tricks to creating your z palette. Great idea. I have been doong the falsies half lash on the outer corner for years and i love they way it makes my eyes look. I cant wait to get my box in the mail…. i hope october brings more warmer colors..

Nikkim

I got the email showing I’m getting the blush too and I’m glad. I think I may cancel and give someone else my spot. I’m just over stocked on palettes and may look in a different direction for a box. Not bad stuff tho!

Another great subscription service is Pearlesque. It’s all natural skincare.

Reply ButtonReply

Does Boxyluxe ship separately? I was under the impression that Boxyluxe would ship in same box as normal Boxycharm box

Reply ButtonReply

Jacki

Boxyluxe ships in a larger box. It contains several of the same items as the regular box plus additional products. You can find full spoilers on MSA

Reply ButtonReply

Christine G

If you are getting the BoxyLuxe box you won’t receive the regular Boxycharm box. All products from the regular box, minus 1 item, are included in the 11 items you’ll receive in your BoxyLuxe. Some subscribers said their BoxyLuxe came via FedEx instead of USPS as well. I hope that makes sense. 😊

Lea

Awesome, thank you so much!!!

Anna

I have the Mac Rollerwheel and like it, I’ve never tried any other brands with the similar design.

Revlon makes an eyeliner with the roller wheel, I have 3 colors and love them! I find them much easier to use than a traditional brush or pen.
